Your access to customized, compounded medicines is at risk. Pharmaceutical manufacturers and the FDA are pushing policies that would make it harder for professionals to prescribe, pharmacists to prepare and patients to take compounded medicines. That's why Patients and Professionals for Customized Care, also known as P2C2, is bringing together people who rely on customized, compounded medicines for better health. Whether you are a patient or a physician, a pet owner or a veterinarian, P2C2 will give you the tools you need to keep pharmaceutical manufacturers and the FDA from restricting your access to compounded medicines. With your free membership to P2C2, you'll be receiving Custom Care Times, an electronic newsletter that will keep you up-to-date on the latest news and information that affects your ability to take or prescribe compounded medications. Custom Care Times will let you know when your action is needed, and P2C2 will give you the online tools to let your representative in Congress, officials at the FDA or even relevant members of the media know that you or your patients rely on compounded medicines and that you are committed to making sure they remain available. Our strength is in our numbers. The more patients, physicians, pet owners or veterinarians we have fighting for compounded medicines, the more successful we'll be. Forward this newsletter to your friends. Tell them to join the fight. If you received this newsletter from P2C2 directly, you are already a member. A recent report that was issued by the Center for Public Integrity showed just how big Pharma’s lobbying efforts have become. According to their report, drug companies and their trade groups spent $155 million from January 2005 through June 2006 and employed about 1,100 lobbyists to do their bidding in each of the past two years (giving the drug companies two lobbyists for every one member of Congress!). 60 Minutes reported further on this subject earlier in the month, exposing one of the worst examples of this money-for-power exchange that goes on between big Pharma lobbyists and members of Congress. The story is a very interesting look at the opposition compounding pharmacists and the patients who benefit from compounded medicines face in our fight to keep our medicines.
