A word about air fresheners in your home:

I used to have a plug-in in every outlet of my house. I also used to

use bleach products for everything. Amazingly, my allergies were

really, really bad. So, I started going " green " and making my own

cleaning products. Not only did it save me tons of money, my

allergies are almost non-existent, and my house is cleaner.

I did my research for weeks on all-natural and eco-friendly

cleaning. I read SO many article about Plug-Ins and how the

chemicals used in them put a coating on your nasal senses to dull bad

odors. Also, that the chemicals are some of many cancer-causing

agents that are used in cleaning products.

I had a cleaning business for 16 years. I thought I just burnt my

smelling sense from the chemical over the years and that that was why

I couldn't smell things anymore. I used to have to put my nose into

things to be able to smell them.

Now, I have gotten rid of all of my plug-ins and I bought a small

potpourri crockpot from Walmart for $6.00 and some essential oils

from the local Mother Earth store. I also found a great fragrance

from a craft fair. I like country kitchen smells like cinnamon,

apple, etc... I put some of the oil in the crockpot in the kitchen

and it fills my house with a wonderful smell. My allergies don't

bother me anymore and I can smell SO many things now that I wasn't

able to before.

I would highly recommend that if you have Plug-Ins, read about the

chemicals that they are emitting in your home and opt for safer

alternatives for your family.

For a more budget-saving idea, I started out with a pot of water on

my stove. I added a sliced apple, some cloves and some ground

cinnamon. I brought it to a boil and then simmered it for hours on

the stove. It put an awesome country smell in the house. You can

also use essential oils or other natural fragrances in the water.

Some other suggestions would be a sliced orange, pear, or other herbs

that you have around the house.
