Guest guest
Yes, we were talking about this a while back. I was just reading this morning somewhere that Nov. 18th (?) is Eat Local Day, lol. I'd love to take on the challenge of the 100 mile diet some time. Luckily, CA is such a good place to find local foods year round. I might not be able to be within 100 miles exclusively, but I bet I could sure come close. Cyndi In a message dated 4/24/2007 10:09:12 A.M. Guest guest
Oh, so it *is* 'localvore,' not 'locavore.' I could not remember! How cool is it that you have a truly local group that you can meet and dine with! I don't think there are any in my area but I will have to check just in case... --Celia-- RealSimple , Ellen Christian <scentednights2002 wrote: > > I belong to our Localvore group in Rutland. Guest guest
Well, I could not either without permanently giving up all citrus fruits, avacados, cocnuts, bananas, etc., which I don't want to do. On the other hand, the bulk of my diet could easily be within 100 miles if I had the time and money. (Mainly money.) There is an organic CSA farm that delivers to my neighborhood each week during the warm months (about 6 months each year) but it's VERY expensive. My 5 year goals includes enough financial recovery in about 3-1/2 years that if all works well, I *might* be able to do it at that time... <crosses fingers> --Cee-- RealSimple , cyndikrall wrote: > > > Yes, we were talking about this a while back. Guest guest
I googled it for my area, but I couldn't find anything. Fortunately, I have a Weston A. Price chapter in Sacramento, and I think that's pretty good, lol. Cyndi In a message dated 4/25/2007 12:14:45 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time, scentednights2002 writes: Yup *Localvore*. Guest guest
Hmmm....unfortunately, no. Not that I've ever seen. I think Vermont is more progressive than Michigan when it comes to the "localvore" stuff. You can go into high end stores and find Michigan made products, but it's the gift-giving type of stuff, not everyday food. Detroit has a strong "healthy food" community in that there are a lot of organic farms, CSA's, vegetarian groups, health food stores, macrobiotic restaurants, etc., but the "localvore" thing hasn't caught on...yet. <wink-wink> Ann Arbor is the most progressive community in Michigan for that type of stuff, so I'm waiting for it catch fire there and spill over to the Detroit area from that-a-ways. I did Google "localvore Michigan" and came up with nothing. How disappointing! I expected to at least there to be some mention of it in Ann Arbor. <big sigh> Maybe I'll have to start my own movement? LOL! --Cee-- P.S. You're right, Ellen...changing part of your diet is better than none at all. Re: Fw: 100 Mile Diet: Local Eating for Global Change » home Posted by: "Ellen Christian" scentednights2002 scentednights2002 Wed Apr 25, 2007 3:26 pm (PST) I've found that even our local grocery stores have a section of Vermont grown/made food products. Yours probably do too. Just today I was amazed to find Vermont organic bread I can't do it all but I can change at least a portion of my diet.Ellen ChristianLilac Hill Homesteadhttp://tinyurl.com/lpfaf
