Hi Brenda;

Welcome to our group! I think you'll find we all share the same concerns about chemicals and preservatives and processed foods.

I guess you're saying you run an at-home daycare center? I can tell you that when my children were small I actively sought out day care centers that provided "real" food, not processed food and white bread. But I know what you mean, most parents think absolutely nothing of feeding their kids white bread, processed food, etc. It's hard to change habits! You haven't mentioned that any of your kids have any special diet needs, but the longer you do daycare, the more chance you have of running into questions about the food you serve. You're wise to do your homework now!

One book I highly recommend is Nourishing Traditions. It's not geared specifically toward kids, but it gives a lot of good information about nutrition, along with recipes. You can also read good info online at westonaprice.org and mercola.com.

These sites might be a little more "radical" than what you're looking for on a practical, daily basis, but at least you'll be educating yourself on a lot of food/health concerns and issues that are out there these days, so you can make informed choices. And it never hurt to be informed. :-)

Thanks for the intro! :-)Cyndi

I'm a wife, mom and daycare provider in north west Mn. AND while I've

been trying to cook more healthier, I'm a total newbie into doing more

research in this area. I'm just tired of all the product recalls and

$ is a problem for everyone, but I'm also dealing with issues of what

do I provide daycare? Kids eat what they eat at home, unless of course

Hey Brenda!

Welcome aboard. I'm Sluggy, wife, mom of 3 kids and 4 dogs & eBay seller

extraordinaire. I'm a southern girl, living in a small mountain town

(outside a small urban area) in PA. I don't know about you but I'm sick of

snow about now.lolol

I too have been trying to make health & lifestyle changes in our family in

PA for about 2 yrs. now to vary-ing degrees of success. I'm also

anti-govt.(any party)but you'll figure that out about me soon enough even

tho I try to hold it in.lolol

I know it must be difficult balancing trying to keep your daycare business

expenses down but also trying to provide real food for the kids that they

will eat. I have found that eating healthy(not processed)takes more time

and cost more(unless you are growing your own)....I know, not rocket science

and something you & everyone else already knows.lol

Maybe if you gave examples of things you already serve your clients/kids,

the folks here eating healthier than me can give you some improvements or

alternatives to tweek what you serve. Start with small changes and the big

ones will follow.... ;-)

At any rate, hope you find some good things here.

Sluggy
