Did anyone watch Oprah today? It was a great show on decluttering. KNOW YOUR CLUTTER: There are 2 kinds of clutter-"I might need it one day clutter" and "Memory Clutter" One keeps you in the future, the other in the past. Both prevent you from living your life NOW.

Ten tips to declutter your home, and more organizing tips. :-)

You are definitely ahead of me! I am a "collector" and it's such a hard mentality to get out of. I also have the "memory" clutter, another hard habit to break.

I've been putting myself on Clutter Bootcamp over the last month, lol. I've been watching shows like Clean Sweep and Clean House. When I see those people who fight tooth and nail to keep the stoopidest CRAP I laugh, but I'm the same way, lol. But I'm working on changing that!

I've started packing up boxes of my mothers stuff to mail out to family members. I'm only going to keep what I can fit into my one curio cabinet. I have so many nick nacks, it's not funny, lol. They all came from my mothers family, and I couldn't bear to get rid of any of them. Now I'm ready! My brothers don't really want much of it, but they're all getting some, and so are some nieces.

I think the key for me is to limit myself to just a few favorites.

Cyndi...how profound! What a simple way to look at clutter, (I think

of it as a reflection of " clutter " of the mind) and I will use that as

my mantra as Roman and I attack the basement this weekend!

Thanks for sharing...

I spend my days trying to balance between two worlds: one world has

anything it might ever need in case of emergency, or any type of large

scale disaster; one world wants to get ride of anything its not using

right now.

I grew up on a farm. I remember one time, my dad fixed my mums car

with a 3 year old baby bottle nipple. (Not a permanent fix, but it

worked until they could go get the right part.) That was the way of

life, every junk had it's day. (Just not always today, and its sitting

on my mothers table in the mean time.) The freezer was full of water

in case the power went out.(Which it often did.) That's a habit I

keep to this day; there are 4 gallons of water in my fridge right now.

I think, my goal is to avoid redundancies in my life. I don't need 7

pink sweaters, or 10 pairs of shoes. (I have 1 pair tennis, 1 dress,

and 1 pair boots.)

Need to go make supper,

Hmmm what about those of us who have "things we need to do" clutter? I have a pile of tax papers, a pile of cub scout papers, a pile of movies to sell, etc.Ellen LaFleche-Christian Lilac Hill Homestead / Vermont http://tinyurl.com/lpfaf

Kudos for sending your mom's stuff on to your family. You just can't keep everything. I have hardly any nick nacks and I'm happy about it. Too many things to collect dust.

I really love my clutter, lol, but I don't want to keep everything. I thought of more stuff I want to send my brothers. so I'm going to find bigger boxes, lol!
