Guest guest
I thought this was an interesting read. 10 Things You Shouldn't Buy New http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/SavingandDebt/FindDealsOnline/10thingsYouSh\ ouldntBuyNew.aspx ************** The reason this article got my attention was that they say Books are one thing you should never buy new. I try to use the local library when I can but it is very small and alot of what I want to read they just don't have or can't get access to. So I am forced to buy books now and again. I have a local resource.....a salvage/discontinued merchandise store called Ollie's. It's a regional chain around these parts and they have quite a large book section. I don't think I've ever spent over $4 for a book there...unread, new w/DustJacket in new condition. Sometimes you can find worthwhile books at dollar stores too. Otherwise, I am a big supporter of amazon marketplace sellers for books. You can get amazing books w/out the outrageous markup that you pay through reg. amazon. Hubby is a bibliophile from waaay back. He use to spend alot of money on books at B & N and/or Amazon. It took me a number of years to get him to actually try buying through the marketplace booksellers at Amazon instead of from Amazon itself. He finally did last year and now he's a convert and won't buy full retail from Amazon again. The only time he buys B & N now is if he has a gift card to spend....lol I figure we save at least a few hundred $s a yr now..... Yippee!! ;-) sluggy
Guest guest
Sometimes we buy new, sometimes used...I prefer to buy used. We always drive out cars into the ground and never trade them in. One of the best cars we bought was used....a Ford Tempo for DH to commute in. That thing ran forever....well, 'almost' forever.lol We don't buy cars w/all the bells & whistles.....just basic transportation w/good mileage. Just don't ever lease a car Barbara.....or as Dave Ramsey calls it a car " fleece " .lol sluggy And I always buy new cars.... Guest guest
I belong to three book swaps as well as a two cd/dvd swaps, but there are some books, cds and dvds I will buy new. I believe very strongly in supporting artists and with a son who is a songwriter/musician and several friends who are writers, I gladly pay full price to support their dream and life's work. I will pay full price or discounted prices for independent film dvds in order to support that industry also. But of course, I love to swap and buy used also. ~NoelleSluggy <arcure wrote: I thought this was an interesting read. 10 Things You Shouldn't Buy New http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/SavingandDebt/FindDealsOnline/10thingsYouShouldntBuyNew.aspx I wrote to a local farm that offers CSAs today too, so cross your fingers I get a share this summer. 8-)) sluggy "Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and thewinds long to play with your hair." - Kahlil Gibran TV dinner still cooling?Check out "Tonight's Picks" on TV.
