Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Allegra, but you can call me Alley or Allx if you'd like. I'm a full time college student, part time worker. I live with my fiance, we pretty much split the bills 50/50, but I'd have to say I'm the responsible one. I have started a journey in my personal life, that I think most people my age go through, of finding out who I am and where I fit in. My goal is to live a healthy lifestyle, mind, body, and of course my spirit. I am Eclectic Pagan with Buddhist leanings. My personal motto, I know it's kinda silly, is " Find your wisdom where it lays. " , because I believe that wisdom and life lessons are all around us waiting to be found. At home I've been cutting back my wardrobe, and trying to buy fewer things I do not need. I'm on a tight budget, which makes that easier. My biggest struggle is food, because I love to buy and cook fresh and organic, but have difficult time finding the time or money. I'm working to break my addiction to sugar, but recently started drinking lattes at school. Another thing I need to rethink. Have a powerful day, Allegra
Guest guest
Welcome to our little community, Allegra! It's nice to hear someone your age who takes their health so seriously. Many of us fall into the "older but wiser" category, lol. Good for you for taking steps now... I don't think your personal motto is silly at all. I think that's a life lesson you are lucky to know now, rather than later. :-) My suggestion for cutting out sugar is to go cold turkey. I know that sounds radical, but it's the only thing that worked for me. Why? Because sugar, and foods that your body accepts as sugar, is in EVERYTHING. Cutting back did nothing for me. I found myself gravitating to other foods that satisfied those cravings, like starchy carbs. Once you purge your body-and believe me, you'll be miserable for a couple week-you'll find that the cravings will go away. It also helps to make sure you're getting plenty of magnesium, amino acids, carnitine, and a good multivitamin until you get used to eating "real" food. <smiles> I could talk about sugar for an hour, but I don't want anyone's eyes to glaze over, lol.
