Guest guest
I noticed that some time ago, how much more intense the greed became. I see it everywhere and it is getting worse all the time. Barbara http://news./s/nm/20070125/hl_nm/rampant_consumerism_dc
Guest guest
But there is a growing "movement" against it, now. So at least we know that things are bound to change, at least somewhat. Capitalism is, by definition, somewhat about spending money, lol. When even the President is encouraging people to go out and spend money, people think it's okay to spend indiscriminately. When the Compacting article hit the internet, they got 5000 new members practically overnight. That is not in consequential! Many people are sick over the current "shop til you drop" mentality. People are also sick of living in a society where everything that is done to make our lives better, easier, healthier, only makes us feel worse...I know I am! Guest guest
I don't know, I'm not that optimistic. Only few people are waking up, the great majority is quite happy to shop until they drop and blindly follow the instructons of our government. Barbara But there is a growing "movement" against it, now. So at least we know that things are bound to change, at least somewhat. Capitalism is, by definition, somewhat about spending money, lol. Cyndi ******************* The last thing Bush needs to do is tell Americans to spend more! Good Googely Moogley, we all know how to do that in spades!lol This spending less IS a growing 'movement' but I also think it's just a current 'fad' with most people. Rampant consumerism is a HOT topic just now...mostly because of all the media play it's getting. It's the in thing to be against. I would put money down that in a yr. from now, the media will move on to the new latest thing and most of those people giving up or threatening to give up buying are back to their old ways. Maybe it will take hold on some but I am way pessimistic about the masses changing their lives for good. At least until they have to declare bankruptcy or go on Oprah's Debt Diet.lol Speaking of the Debt Diet. I watched the original series last year and caught the 1 yr. later follow up last week. It was so sad to see that one woman who actually created 30some thousand MORE in debt, instead of paying down her debt. Obviously, she isn't personally ready to commit to changing her life. And Capitalism isn't about spending money.....it's about Making money!hehehe sluggy
Guest guest
I doubt there are any "masses" giving up spending NOW, lol, I'm just happy to see there is SOME movement to spend less. Thanks to the power of the internet, at least those who want to change their lifestyles have places to go for support. It can and WILL die out of the media's attention, but I truly hope that now that people are opening up their eyes, it will continue on... I missed the Debt Diet follow up. That's truly sad, but not surprising. Sluggy, a pessimist is just a disillusioned romantic, lol. Cyndi In a message dated 1/27/2007 4:42:08 A.M. Guest guest
I agree with you Sluggy, and I'm equally skeptical about people changing their ways.
