Mother Nature is once again reminding us all that agriculture is a precarious business. The freezing temperatures of the past few nights have caused significant crop damage in all growing areas, on all varieties. Based on history and the nature of this arctic blast, we unfortunately anticipate huge losses. Some of our growers have sadly

lost all the fruit on their trees.Sunkist takes a lot of pride in its commitment to providing your family with quality fruit. These harsh weather conditions come just as we are preparing for the peak of the season on Navel oranges, Mandarins, Tangerines, Pummelos, Moro blood oranges and Cara Cara oranges. It is truly heart-breaking for our growers to nurture the trees and the fruit for so long, only to see our efforts lost just before the harvest. As a result of these unusual conditions, you may have some difficulties finding California citrus in your local supermarket or favorite restaurant. We ask for your patience and understanding during this difficult time. The entire Sunkist organization is working diligently through this crisis to deliver the best possible fruit available. We will be updating our web site as more information becomes available, so please check back periodically for the latest news. We expected this, didn't we... but this is a confirmation :(

Here in Florida, the oranges are falling to the ground and rotting away and no one is harvesting them, but the stores are charging

69 cents each. That does not make any sense unless we understand that to keep the prices high, part of the crop has to rot away.

Hola Ellen- If you are going to plant citrus trees in a pot, make sure that you get an adult tree since it takes them year to produce fruit. I have a lemon tree which I grew from seed and it is now ten years old; it finally bloomed last year! It grew too big for the greenhouse so I planted it in the front yard to see if it could take the cold weather; I guess that I shall know after tonite! Be sure that you get a miniature tree! we could grow citrus here in Vermont. I love oranges & lemons & I know that will suffer with the higher prices. Ellen LaFleche-Christian Lilac Hill Homestead / Vermont http://tinyurl.com/lpfaf Get your own web address.Have a HUGE year through Small Business.
