Guest guest
I recently committed to a one year wellness program. In addition to regular adjustments by my chiropractor, he and his entire staff are committed to total wellness education for their patients. In a recent workshop, he explained how humans are the only animals to drink the milk of another animal; be it cow, goat, etc. No other animal does this. He then went on to explain how consuming dairy products can actually rob your body of calcium. The dairy industry is big business, complete with incredibly effective ad campaigns. Remember 'Milk, it does a body good, pass it on!' Or the long running and ever popular 'Got Milk' campaign, complimented by the milk mustaches and testimonies of celebrities. In a nutshell, here is what I learned (summary compliments of an online article, link at the end of my post): Cows' milk is rich in phosphorous which can combine with calcium -- and can prevent you from absorbing the calcium in milk. The milk protein also accelerates calcium excretion from the blood through the kidneys. This is also true when you eat large amount of meat and poultry products. Vegetarians will need about 50% less calcium than meat eaters because they lose much less calcium in their urine. It is possible to obtain all your calcium from dark green vegetables (where do you think the cow gets their's from?). The darker the better. Cooked collard greens and kale are especially good. If you or your child is unable to take in large amounts of green vegetables, you might want to supplement with calcium. xoxoxo Noëlle"Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and thewinds long to play with your hair." - Kahlil Gibran Get your own web address. Guest guest
Just a couple points to consider :-)Cows are ruminants. Their stomachs are designed to eat grass. Period. Humans are omnivores, and drinking milk has been past of our evolution. Not pasteurized milk! That's only "toxic sludge" as the saying goes, lol. But if you do the research on raw milk, you start to understand how it is actually healthy. Given a choice, I'd give up dairy products too, if they weren't "raw" dairy. Raw dairy products don't block the absorption of calcium like pasteurized dairy does. I agree about the dairy industry-those "happy california cows" commercials drive me nuts, lol. Also, when you eat a lot of traditional grain fed meat, it acidifies your blood. Your body responds to this by doing what it needs to do to alkalinize (?) your blood again. How does it do this? With calcium, from your bones if need be. This is why calcium is so hard for us to absorb into our bones, where we need it. This is why grass fed beef is preferable, if you're going to eat meat at all. The meat is not as acidic, because grass is a cows natural diet, not grain. So your body doesn't have to work as hard to bring you back to balance. Same goes for milk. An alkaline state is natural for your body, an acidic state is not. I think this is what leads to a lot of illnesses. Just playing the devils advocate here, lol. Again, if I had to choose, I'd give up dairy too, rather than consume pasteurized products. And eating raw dairy has definitely cut down on my consumption of dairy products in general, which is probably a good thing... :-)Cyndi In a message dated 1/22/2007 10:48:49 P.M. Guest guest
I agree with everything in your post because it pertains to the pasteurized and homogenized milk and it's products. Raw, unadulterated milk is a health promoting substance and it cured thousands of people of many different diseases and afflictions. The two milks are like day and night in their effects on human body. The store bought milk is a sludge of killed bacteria, destroyed vitamins and enzymes and adulterated butter fat that promotes heart disease. Plus the feces and urine of the cows which are sucked up if the milking claws fall of the cow's teats. Not so the raw, health giving milk. The argument so often repeated that we are the only species that drinks milk of other species is not really valid because the only reason other animals do not drink milk is because they can not get it... LOL If they could - they would!!! Barbara I recently committed to a one year wellness program. Guest guest
Indeed! Animals go to great lengths to eat eggs. Cyndi In a message dated 1/23/2007 6:16:52 A.M. Guest guest
I have to disagree with that statement Barbara. Also, most animals instinctively ween their babies within a few months to a year after birth. Most, if not all animals, live their lives with intelligent instinct, with one glaring exception, humans. Animals outside of captivity and not exposed to the toxins we humans have created in the world live a disease-free life as well. Guest guest
From all my readings and from all the nature programs that I watched I know that many animal species would drink milk if they could get it. Even snakes will drink milk. Also some birds. But this is not really important, Noelle. The most important thing is that you are changing your life style and your food habits to the healthier ones. It doesn't matter if you drink milk or not but...it IS very good that you stopped drinking the store bought milk and it's products because they are very unhealthy. http://www.westonaprice.org/knowyourfats/homogenization.html Barbara I have to disagree with that statement Barbara.
