Very cool! I must try this! Raw butter is expensive to buy, but soooooo good. And don't discard that buttermilk! YUM! You can use it in a lot of recipes, or just drink it. :-)

Some of you may already know this but I thought I would share in case you did not.

I think I have found a source for raw milk so I hope to try this in the future.

Did you see the comments at the bottom? You can make butter with your mixer, blender, food processor, or even the dough cycle on a bread maker. I wonder if an ice cream maker would work? If you have any of those appliances, that is. So much fun! And so healthy if you can get raw milk or raw cream.

I actually did that in kindergarten in babyfood jars...kind of fun but had a sore wrist all day from all the shaking! I was very surprised at what it tasted like without salt. (Not good in my opinion, LOL!)

Oooooooooh, a butter mold! That makes it even MORE fun, lol. Good idea! I would have just plopped it in a bowl and been done with it, lol.

I've made it in baby food jars too a long time ago. Can't wait to try it again. I am hoping to find a butter mold somewhere. It's really tough to find "old fashioned" appliances & supplies at prices that won't break me :)

Ellen, to make butter you need raw cream not milk. And if you found raw milk they may also have cream. I'm making ice cream from my raw cream that I'm buing, but I may start making butter too. Mmmm...delicious :)

Oh, ok, I thought it was the length of time, not the speed. That's ok, I think I have a hand mixer somewhere. :-)Cyndi

I don't think ice cream maker would work, Cyndi. It goes around way too slow, unless there are other ice cream makers working differently than mine. All othe appliances are great though.

Ellen...thanks for attaching the pic. She's absolutely beautiful and she looks just like you! As for not having time to keep up the blog, I understand. There are only so many hours in the day and we must all pick and choose where we spend our time or waste it, LOL!

P.S. I also agree about the butter molds...truly lovely but too pricey for my taste!

No no no.... plopping it a bowl just takes all the enjoyment out of doing it the old fashioned way :) I want this to be fun!
