Guest guest
I actually did that in kindergarten in babyfood jars...kind of fun but had a sore wrist all day from all the shaking! I was very surprised at what it tasted like without salt. (Not good in my opinion, LOL!) --Celia-- - Ellen Christian scentednights2002 Wednesday, January 10, 2007 3:06 PM [RealSimple] How to make your own butter Some of you may already know this but I thought I would share in case you did not. http://www.slashfood.com/2006/03/03/how-to-make-your-own-butter/ I think I have found a source for raw milk so I hope to try this in the future. .. Guest guest
I've made it in baby food jars too a long time ago. Can't wait to try it again. I am hoping to find a butter mold somewhere. It's really tough to find "old fashioned" appliances & supplies at prices that won't break me :)Ellen LaFleche-Christian Lilac Hill Homestead / Vermont http://tinyurl.com/lpfaf Have a burning question? Guest guest
Yes, I've seen some of the old-fashioned wooden butter molds and they are very cool but EXPENSIVE! I would love to get some too if I could find a reasonably priced reproduction or cheap antique...which isn't likely to happen, LOL! Ellen, do you know how to add salt to the butter? Just curious. Don't mind low-salt but really don't like pure sweet butter. (I know, I know...it's better for me, hahahaha.) --Celia-- - Ellen Christian RealSimple Wednesday, January 10, 2007 4:28 PM Re: [RealSimple] How to make your own butter I've made it in baby food jars too a long time ago. Guest guest
By the way...keep meaning to ask you what happened to the link to your home schooling blog? I used to access it from your site to see how you and your son were doing, but I cannot find it anymore. Did you just remove the link or did you take down the site? I was disappointed as I enjoyed reading about your progress. Also, while I'm being nosey, I've noticed several pictures of your son on your homesteading site but none of your daughter. Are you hiding her? Just kidding!!! Celia...who is looking forward to spring now that winter has truly arrived. (I know, I know...it's better for me, hahahaha.) *********** My understanding is that after you "churn" it and rinse it several times you add the salt. I haven't actually done it yet since kindergarten :)Ellen LaFleche-Christian Lilac Hill Homestead / Vermont http://tinyurl.com/lpfaf Everyone is raving about the all-new Mail beta.
