Guest guest
Ellen, are you able to collect any wild foods up where you are? Anyone else? I'm curious-when I lived in PA, we collected several different things, and I sure miss those days. Cyndi In a message dated 1/4/2007 11:35:19 A.M. Guest guest
Hi Cyndi, Besides the dandelion greens, I don't really gather much. I'm hoping to find some fiddlehead ferns around me but so far no :(Ellen LaFleche-Christian Lilac Hill Homestead / Vermont http://tinyurl.com/lpfaf Do You ? Guest guest
Ellen, do any of the medicinal goldenrods grow up there? In PA, we used to collect Solidago odora, which my MIL called Blue-mountain tea. The leaves have an Anise flavor, and we used to make tea out of it. I don't know how far north they grow, but you may have your own scented goldenrods up there, I think there are a few different kinds. I might still have a tin of it somewhere. I just keep it for the scent, lol, I doubt the leaves are any good to drink any more. Cyndi In a message dated 1/5/2007 6:19:27 P.M. Guest guest
Are you sure it isn't ragweed you're allergic to? It's a common misconception that goldenrod causes allergies because it blooms the same time as ragweed, but if you've been tested for it, I understand. :-) Cyndi In a message dated 1/6/2007 6:52:04 P.M. Guest guest
Well, you use the leaves of the goldenrod, not the flowers. :-)Cyndi In a message dated 1/7/2007 5:32:18 A.M.
