Ellen, are you able to collect any wild foods up where you are? Anyone else? I'm curious-when I lived in PA, we collected several different things, and I sure miss those days.

Ellen, do any of the medicinal goldenrods grow up there? In PA, we used to collect Solidago odora, which my MIL called Blue-mountain tea. The leaves have an Anise flavor, and we used to make tea out of it. I don't know how far north they grow, but you may have your own scented goldenrods up there, I think there are a few different kinds.

I might still have a tin of it somewhere. I just keep it for the scent, lol, I doubt the leaves are any good to drink any more.

Hi Cyndi,

Besides the dandelion greens, I don't really gather much. I'm hoping to find some fiddlehead ferns around me but so far no :(

Are you sure it isn't ragweed you're allergic to? It's a common misconception that goldenrod causes allergies because it blooms the same time as ragweed, but if you've been tested for it, I understand. :-)

I've never heard of medicinal goldenrod before. To be honest, I'm allergic to goldenrod so I stay far away from it :)

Well, you use the leaves of the goldenrod, not the flowers. :-)Cyndi

According to my allergist, I am allergic to grass pollen, flower pollen, tree pollen. Not sure specificially which ones but I try to avoid what I can :)
