Glad to hear that, Russ, as I believe my ex-husband's high trans-fat diet was directly responsible for his early heart disease. If even just ONE person can beat heart disease by avoiding this stuff, it will have been worth it to beat the drums! >> I think you and I are actually agreeing... 'very little' and 'much less' seem close to the same point to me regarding amounts of meat Asians eat. By golly, you may be right, Russ! I agree with you wholeheartedly that Americans OVEREAT everything...one reason why I preach " all things in moderation. " I should start by clarifying that while I eat bacon, butter, steak or whatever I want with gusto and pleasure and NO GUILT, I by and large eat small portions and eat much less than your average American. I aim for a plate 1/3 veggies, 1/3 protein (usually animal product), and 1/3 whole grains or legumes/beans...fruit for desert if I have room. Note that I said " aim for. " I am not perfect. Somedays and some meals I'll soup and salad all day, simply because that's what I crave! >> I believe any kind of meat being eaten at most meals but in very small amounts is OK fat-wise, and this is what I meant by 'very little' meat in the Asian diet, not that they completely exclude meat a majority of the time. Perhaps the main issue is that Americans eat SO MUCH MORE of everything, therefore would get a lot more calories from fat than a traditional Asian diet would provide. Overeating--even if it's a so-called healthy food--is not healthy for anyone...period. >> Heck, I'll have to admit that I'm totally brainwashed and narrow- minded about saturated fats being the doggoned DEVIL. But I'm certainly willing to learn from you and perhaps regroup my thoughts on the subject. Talk to me some more girl! Whew! Don't know that we want to keep doing this, Russ...I am EXHAUSTED, LOL! I think we agree in more areas than we know, but I'm ready to move on to greener pastures for a while...like other things we do to make ourselves healthy and whole. By for now, Russ. I need to take a nap, heehee. (((HUGS))) --Celia--
