Cyndi, you must have read my mind!!! Yep, I found them, I joined,

and I plan on requesting kefir grains from someone on the list! I do

not have access to raw milk (yet) as it's not legal to sell in the

grocery store, but I plan on obtaining a source with info from WAP.

For now I will use organic, whole milk.

Re: [RealSimple] Kefir

Cee, there is a Kefir group on . Join up and ask for someone to

send you some grains to get you started. Many people will do it for

just postage, or for free. I'd send you some, but it'll take a couple

weeks for me to culture enough, and you may not want to wait that

long to get started. I Blend up my extra grains in the blender with

my smoothie when I accumulate too many.

I've never tried the cheeses, at least not yet. Plus, if you really

get into it, you can water culture kefir, too, and do lots of other

things.

Make sure you use whole organic milk, or raw if you can get ahold of

it. The grains don't grow well in skim milk.

YAY! My friend Barbara, who got me started with Kefir, is another terrific resource for any kefir questions you might have. She is also the Queen of Fats, lolol, she knows so much about nutrition.

Now she will hit me for calling her that, lol. ;-)Cyndi

I think Amazon still has used copies of this book. I checked paperbackswap.com, but they didn't have any unfortunately!

Well, as long as you are not calling me FAT QUEEN I will forgive you ;)

Anyone who is interested in healthy living should read a book by Mary Enig PhD, called "Eat Fat, Lose Fat" This book will open your eyes to the terrible deceit that medical establishment is forcing on unsuspecting citizens... She studied fats for 30+ years ans surely knows her fats. We all are brainwashed into believing that saturated fats are unhealthy and giving us heart disease. NOTHING can be farther from the truth. In fact, animal fats are protecting the heart and the arteries from being blocked.

In her book Mary Enig says that the ONLY healthy fats are saturated fat and of those, the raw, unpasteurised butter is THE healthiest and the coconut oil is the second. Then the lard and all other animal fats. Not one vegetable oil is healthy and the canola is the worst. If that sounds like heresy to all of you, then please, read the book. You will have all the answers on that subject.
