Holly, here is some info I copied off another list. Hope this helps. The CC/FO the person is talking about is Cottage Cheese/Flaxseed Oil. It is the premise of the Budwig diet that this combination can cure a variety of ailments in humans. It is supposed to be a combination that adds essential Omega 3, as well as a chemical interaction between the flaxseed oil and cottage cheese that brings the body back into balance. It's not designed for dogs and cats, but some people have given it to their pets, with mixed results.

Most people who look for help with pet health problems are told to put them on the BARF (bones and raw food) diet. I know many people who do this, although I don't. My mutts are pretty healthy, lol. Shirleys Wellness Cafe is another site I see recommended often. I think the raw diet consists mainly of raw chicken, complete with bones. I have a friend who feeds this exclusively to her cats and dogs.

When my German Shepherd was alive, my vet recommended acidophilus pills for her. She had the typical sensitive German Shepherd stomach, and the acidophilus really helped her a lot. The worst part was getting her to eat them, lol.

Many people also blame vaccinations for dogs health problems. You might want to do some research on that as well. Good luck, and please let us know what happens. :-)

Budwig Diet for treating cancer with alternative approaches

So sorry about your dog. Since you have been treating her holistically canI assume that you are raw feeding her? This is the first place to startwith any dog, especially one with a health problem. In case you need helpwith this I suggest you join rawfeeding Cancer in dogs is often attributed to a poor diet of commercial dog food[which has almost as much nutrition as card board] and vaccinations.I have heard of dogs being cured of cancer with the CC/FO regimen along withraw meat, bones & organs. A good place to learn about this is http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/amailbag.htmThere are tons of info on this site about natural means of raising dogs and bringing sick ones back to health. Be sure to read the many articles on the dangers of vac.Good luck

Hey All, Anyone here have any knowledge of the body's PH and health, I recently learned from the Vet, we took our dog for surgery, she told us our dog's Kidney and Bladder stones were from an imbalance in her PH, that she had an akaline environment in her body, creating an environment for disease to grow. So, I decided to do some research and lo and behold, this holds true for humans as well.I already take enzymes for IBS, which works to balance the digestive system. There is a test for body PH at the pharmacy, who knew ?Any thoughts or ideas on this one ?Peace and Joy, Holly

Wow ! Thanks so much, so I guess you did know something on the subject of PH in the body.

I got what I was hoping for, the information you provided is interesting and I will check them out throughly

When the Vet found out they were Strivites, and not the usual Calcium stones, she sent them into UC Davis for testing, and they determined it was her diet, so these links are an alternative to the $40.00 a bag dog food that we are required to buy, so again Thanks. Peace and Hope, Holly

Cyndi...I adore both cottage cheese and flax seeds themselves (not the oil), so I'm wondering if something similar could be achieved combining those two instead? I'm sure the oil concentration would not be quite as high, but I would like to try it. I would appreciate your input as I am not knowledgeable in this area!

Cee, I do exactly that-I eat cottage cheese with some ground flax seed thrown in. I don't blend them up at all. I really like the taste of flax seeds. I can't be convinced that you HAVE to blend them totally together to achieve perfect results, the oil and the cottage cheese, I mean. Call me skeptical, lol. But it all ends up in the same place, doesn't it? So why emulsify them together? I don't stress over it, I just figure I'm going to get SOME health benefits by combining them, lol.

The oil is more concentrated, so I do think it's important to consume both of them. I usually throw a spoonful of Flax seed oil into my oatmeal, or my kefir smoothie. And then I eat the ground seeds in my cottage cheese. I do eat a lot of cottage cheese simply because it's one of the few things my stomach can tolerate well while I'm on chemo.

Well, whenever I hear people say you HAVE to do this and you HAVE to do that, one way or no way, it tends to make me rebel, lol. I prefer moderation and common sense. Everyone needs something to believe in-I need simplicity! The Budwig diet is a regime for naturally curing cancer (they claim.) Now, I can PERFECTLY understand that! And there are many food adjustments you can make when you are fighting a major illness. Since a positive mental attitude is CRUCIAL in fighting an illness, the benefits in believing in a perfect strict diet probably outweighs the lack of simplicity.

I have an old coffee grinder for my flax seeds. I keep whole flax seeds and oil in the fridge. I get out my grinder and usually grind up enough for about a week, put it in a baggie, and keep it in the fridge, or freezer, if I've ground up too much. Ideally, you should grind fresh every day, but I'm too lazy, lol.

That makes sense, Cyndi. I'm not going to be 'anal' about it as part of my 'simplicity' is enjoying life also...not making it a burden! (Ya hear that, Russ? Don't let it stress you out, heh-heh.) May I ask what method you use to grind your flax seeds? I've been eating them whole simply because I like them that way, but I understand they have to be at least partially ground to release their nutritional potential.

Where do you get flax seed and what is it good for? What does it taste like?

Brigitte, look in the baking aisle in your grocery store. I think most stores have a display of Bob's Red Mill (http://www.bobsredmill.com/) products. They sell whole flax seeds and ground flax seeds in small bags.

Flax seed is one of the best sources for Omega 3:

http://www.bodybuildingforyou.com/health-supplements/flax-seed-oil.htm

Omega 3 is especially important for women, or anyone with health issues.

The seeds taste pretty good, kind of nutty. The oil is gross, lol, which is why I always mix it into something where I can't taste it, lol. Whole seeds are a good source of fiber, the ground seed and oil are better for extracting the omega 3 properties. I put the ground seeds into oatmeal, cottage cheese, or smoothies.
