That's interesting, Ellen. I certainly

don't like the prospect of this happening, I hope they provide labeling

so we can choose to eat it or not. There's going to be a LOT of ethics

discussion on this. One more reason to go vegetarian as far as I'm

concerned.

Nope, I hear the government has decided that it's not necessary to label it as such, which TOTALLY sucks IMO. Since I am in an urban environment and cannot raise my own meat (someday!), I will be forced more and more to buy from local co-ops or over the internet from Heritage foods or other certified and dependable organic farms. I wish I lived by you as I would buy my eggs from you and encourage you to breed, raise and sell more meat for me, LOL!

I'm really hoping they label the packages so I can avoid them. For me it's one more reason to raise my own meat.

A vegetarian diet did not work for me. Now I eat meat in small amounts. I still don't like it, lol. But I am determined that it will be the best quality meat I can find.

The ethics are mindboggling, aren't they? Not trying to start a major controversy on our first day, lol. We just all need to be aware of what is going on in the world and KNOW OUR PRODUCT, then make our choices.

I know raising meat is something we're struggling with too. I do know that it's possible to raise rabbits for meat even in urban environments. I don't eat rabbit but if that's to your taste, you may want to consider it. http://www.alpharubicon.com/warlord/kids/urbanrabbitsdc.htmEllen LaFleche-Christian Lilac Hill Homestead / Vermont http://tinyurl.com/lpfaf Do You ?

I've heard about this in urban homesteading circles. It's one great way to raise meat in a small yard. I'm sorry to report I could not raise my own meat, lol. I'm with Celia, we need to be near YOU so we can buy your efforts. ;-)Cyndi

Good news, Ellen...some companies are going to voluntarily identify themselves as "clone free' much like some companies identify themselves as "GMO free." See below:

The problem I would have with raising meat is that I'd make friends with it and couldn't eat it then! I'd have to have someone else do it...

Celia--who is too much of an animal lover to do it herself!

Hi Brigitte! So glad you decided to join us!!!!

I'm on my way out to the doctors, so I'll make this brief for now, and reply more later. Here is a link to the article in question:

http://news./s/ap/20061228/ap_on_sc/cloned_food

and some more info:

http://news./s/ap/20061228/ap_on_sc/cloned_food

If you're interested in more info, you may want to read back thru the archives to see what the discussion has been about, or do a Google search to find out why people are so upset about this.

More on the Vegetarian thing later.....

Hugs,

Cyndi
