Guest guest
Oh, I guess I should mention a little about my lifestyle too............ I live in Oceanside, located in north coastal San Diego County. Oceanside is both urban and suburban. I live in an apartment complex with two roommates and my cat, Amadeus, in the San Luis Rey Valley directly across from the San Luis Rey River. I would LOVE to have a small beach house or cottage by the ocean, but at the moment chose to live collectively with others in order to save money and figure out how 1 or 2 people can live and be as 'frugal' with resources as living somewhat communally allows. I drive the 10.5 miles from my home to my office M-F as the local bus service does not travel in the direction of my work early enough for me to be at work. One of my roommates does take the bus to work though or carpools with our other roomie (they work different hours but at the same place) and sometimes I can take the bus riding roomie to work on my way to the office, depending on our work schedules. The biggest impact I am making on the environment is having my b/f drive 90 miles each way from LA on the weekends. We are trying to see if we can work around the train schedule, but for the moment, the train doesn't run on Sundays or early enough on Mondays for him to get to work. If he eventually moves down here than that issue will be resolved! He does drive a newer model Jetta and gets 30 mpg on the highway. He is also able to take the bus from his home in LA to where he works. We both shop at thrift stores, yard sales and are active in local clothing and tool swaps in LA & San Diego. We have each managed to continue our college education by taking online classes rather than commuting to the actual campus, so that helps also. We buy locally grown produce and are very careful to not buy items that are packaged individually if we can help it. I guess that's about it for now. Guest guest
No kidding. She really is! I check out her links every other week or so to see what's been updated or whatever, but winter is always slower because there is no active planting, gardening, etc. I would love to have the opportunity to do what she does...but I would HAVE to have some baby goats! <grins> --Cee-- - cyndikrall RealSimple Thursday, December 28, 2006 11:20 PM Re: [RealSimple] Ellen's introduction Be sure to check out Ellen's link. Guest guest
LOL thanks Celia. I'd love to have goats but the problem is that they don't give milk unless they are bred and I don't think I am up to assisting in goat deliveries at this point in time. I'm considering it when the kids are older though. I'd love to have goat's milk to make soap & sell to crafters :)Ellen LaFleche-Christian Lilac Hill Homestead / Vermont http://tinyurl.com/lpfaf Do You ?
