I hope you don't mind if I ask this teeny question about LDN... If you do, just tell me to snip it... or something...;-) Would somebody please help me understand this about LDN correctly? Normal volunteers who have taken LDN in this fashion have been found to have much higher levels of beta-endorphins circulating in their blood in the following days. " So, did I understand this correctly to say that LDN blocks opiate reception on cells? And that blocking uptake of opioids/opiates somehow increases endorphins? And that endorphins stimulate/boost the immune system by stimulating immune cells like the T-cells and macrophage cells, etc...? If I got all this right, I just don't understand why blocking uptake of opiates would work such magic if I am NOT TAKING any opiates to begin with???? Unless we have a ton of opiates in us at all times...which sounds odd... And speaking of endorphins...sounds like endorphins improve immune system, right? I know sex and fear increases endorphins, but do you guys know what else naturally increases it? We also have opiate receptors on our cells that act as attachment points for the endorphins. LDN temporarily blocks the opiate receptors for a few hours. This creates a rebound effect in which the production of our own endorphins is upregulated to compensate. One of these endorphins, metenkephalin, has the ability to downregulate the production of an enzyme in cancer cells that is usually produced in the first phase of the cell cycle (G1). By downregulating this enzyme the cell can be blocked or delayed before it goes into the S phase during which the DNA is replicated. The result is, that tumors will have a much greater proportion of cells locked into G1 phase and a lot fewer cells in M phase. M phase is Mitosis, when the cells reproduce themselves. This results, potentially, in slowed tumor growth, sometimes to the point of dormancy. When tumor cells cannot replicate for long periods of time they often start to die off. In addition to this, there seems to be an upregulation of immune cells as you suggest in your question.
