Guest guest
For any of you that have the knowledge. I have gotten a total of 7 viruses in the last 8 years. Most come on attachments to email. The virus pops up as soon as I click on the attachment or email. I immediately disconnect my computer from the web to keep from passing it. Next I go thru the antiviruses and 5 times they found and destroyed it. The other 2 times I reformatted my entire 80 gig haddrive and reloaded my software . One caution, make sure the maker of printers/scanners etc will let you reregister them. I was never able to reregister the HP 2110 printer from 5 years ago. Consequently The scanner does not work because it is not registered according to Hewlett Packard. Guest guest
You should not have to register your scanner to get it to work. There are a number of places on the net that have the drivers you need. Such as: http://74.55.96.66/drivers/index/file/information/3405 A good rule of thumb is if you do not know the sender, do not open emails and especially do not open attachments. Between the free AVG and Avast anti-virus programs, together with the free Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy adware/malware software, I have been able to keep viruses and adware at bay and have not had to re-format a drive in several years. oleander soup , " Bill " <w.wilkins wrote: > > For any of you that have the knowledge. I have the very same programs that Tony described (above) and can also attest to the protection they provide. Haven't had any problems as long as they are running. Guest guest
The following may help you with your virus problems: Use one drive for C-drive (your operating system). Keep nothing on that disk but your programs--ie, no data as such. With SATA or PATA an 80 GB drive would be about right for C-drivwe (cheapest). Seagate drives last forever. Then get a big drive for your data. Make that something like F-drive. Put all your data files on F-drive (or more drives if you wish). Then get a somewhat big drive for backing up your c_drive (such as a Q drive) and get an extra disk for a C_drive back up the same size as C-drive. You now have 4 drives, two of which are cheap. You may want a rail system such venus or comet so that you can pull out the drives quickly and substitute other drives (available from www.directron.com). Now you need backup software. The best seems to be Paragon Drive backup Professional 8.51. Now you can back up C-drive to the spare backup drive (Q-drive and also the backup C-drive). That way if you have a crash you have the option of switching disks for instant recovery from the backup C-drive. You also can just do a restore via the Paragon backup software to C-drive itself. You also can store your back up on your large backup disk (such as Q drive). All disks that are not in daily use such as your back-up type drives should be turned off or removed from the slide-in rack so that they last forever. When you restore to your 80GB backup C-drive you want to switch it into C-drive temporarily to make sure that the backup/restore operation actually worked and that the backup C-drive is good. We've used this system and it works wonderfully. If you have multiple computers in your office you can also trade data disks around between computers for very fast data transfers for very large amounts of data in lieu of LANs or flash drives etc. oleander soup , " Bill " <w.wilkins wrote: > > For any of you that have the knowledge.
