Contrary to Wikipedia, there are two distinct kinds of oleander

plants. Most common is the nerium oleander, or common oleander plant,

such as you have growing in your back yard. It is characterized by

long leaves AND seed pods and comes in colors of white, red, pink,

salmon and light yellow.

The other oleander is Thevetia peruviana, most commonly known as

yellow oleander , but also called Captain Cook's tree. It can be found

growing as a 6-8 foot shrub, or trained as a single trunk tree that

grows to 20 feet. The leaves look similar to the nerium oleander, but

the flowers are always a shade of yellow and more tubular than nerium

oleander and the seed pods are round instead of elongated.

Both kinds are very closely related - but all oleander extracts have

been taken from the nerium oleander.
