I'm so glad I've joined this group. I keep learning things all the time.

Here I was choosing canola oil because it's supposed to be better for

you than veggie and corn oils. I just read about canola oil at

http://www.curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=772786

so now I need to know which oils we should be using. What about olive oil?

Hi Cyndi,

It is amazing how they promote Canola Oil as the healthy oil to

choose. Actually, it is one of the worst things for your system and

promotes disease.

The only two oils that I use are olive oil and flaxseed oil. Nothing

else.

Hi Cyndi,

Olive oil is fine. Coconut oil is the healthiest oil. I'm sure others will give you where to buy. I have bought mine from Tropical Traditions. Wilderness Family Naturals probably has good quality also.

Add unrefined and extra virgin coconut oil to the list of excellent oils for cooking. Just don't cook it over 350.

Canola means Canadian oil -- the biggest GMO product out there. Whole Foods uses it in all of their cooked products.

Whole Foods Stores should be Whole (Lot of Money Pretending to be

Health) Foods Stores. The majority of their products, produce and

meat are not organic.

I think they must have Canadian backing of some sort. Why else would

they choose to put this garbage in their food? Just boggles the mind

really.

Suz, EXTRA virgin coconut oil is hype. There is only virgin coconut oil. Virgin coconut oil is unrefined. EXTRA is only a marketing ploy copying the Extra Olive Oil. RBD coconut oil stands for refined, bleached and deodorized. Some use hexane and then steam, but the thing is residues can be left behind. You are right, for ingesting/cooking get the virgin coconut oil or the expeller pressed coconut oil made out of FRESH coconut meat, not the sun dried coconut meat. My supplier is wildernessfamilynaturals.com. I know her sources of vco from the Philippines and expeller pressed oil and they are excellent. WFN supplies me both centrifuged virgin coconut oil and expeller pressed from FRESH copra coconut oils. Coconut oil can take medium-high heat so it is excellent for cooking. Do not let the oil turn yellow

from too much heat. Also this oil can be reused. Yes, it is safe to reuse it, just filter and separate containers for seafood, beef, chicken, and pork oilf. Melly

The

healthiest oils to use are:

Cooking Oils:  unrefined,

expeller-pressed virgin coconut oil (can use for frying as it has no flavor –

hopefully one is not “frying” anything very much), virgin coconut

oil (has a coconut flavor), organic hempseed oil, tea oil (NOT tea tree), Organic

Macadamia Oil (can be used for sautéing – smoke point is 330°)

Oils to use unheated: extra-virgin

and cold-pressed olive, organic flaxseed

Polyunsaturated

fats (vegetable oils like corn, soy, safflower, sunflower and canola) are ones

that are not healthy for the body. They are omega-6 oils and very susceptible

to heat damage because of all the double bonds they contain.

Many

people believe that frying creates trans-fats but this is not the biggest

concern.  True, some trans-fats are created, but shouldn’t be too

worrisome. There are many more toxic chemicals produced by frying

omega-6 oils than trans-fats. Frying will destroy the antioxidants in oils and thus

oxidizes them. Using the oils mentioned above contribute to the overabundance

of omega-6 fats in the diet, thus creating an imbalance of the omega-6 to

omega-3 ratio. Too much omega-6 fats in the diet can contribute to health

concerns.

Coconut

oil is my favorite. It can be used instead of butter, olive oil, vegetable oil,

margarine, or any other type of oil called for in recipes. If I don’t

want the coconut taste, I used the unrefined, expeller-pressed.

Instead of butter or oil for potatoes, bread, vegetables, etc. Dr. Budwig’s

Oleolux recipe is WONDERFUL and VERY healthy!!  The recipe is as follows:

Oleolux Recipe

8.8-ounces virgin coconut oil4.4-ounces organic Flax Seed Oil1 organic onion

10 organic garlic cloves (peeled and pressed through garlic press) Preparation:  Cut 1 medium sized onion in half and brown slightly in 8.8-ounces of heated coconut oil.  Cook for approximately 15 minutes.  Add 10 garlic cloves and heat for additional 3 minutes only.  Strain the fat through a sieve into 4.4-ounces of Flax Seed Oil (previously chilled for ½ hour in the freezer).  Keep this mixture refrigerated and bring to the table in small portions as required. Note:  As a rule, Flax Oil and Oleolux should never be heated.  If you prepare sauces according to the Budwig recipes, the sensitive, unsaturated fatty acids of Flax Oil are somewhat protected by the sulfhydryl group of spices (e.g.: pepper).  Be careful not to heat the Oleolux more than one minute.

Be Well

Tony,

We don't have much of a choice here in So.Cal. It's Whole Foods or

not much else in the way of organic. Mothers Markets are great, but the

closest one is 40 miles away. Whole Foods has enough organic

produce/poultry to satisfy most. True not everything is organic, but enough

to matter. I stay away from their prepared foods and salad bar due to the

canola oil. I can't complain really, I'm thankful Whole Foods is here,

otherwise it'd be Ralphs or some other supermarket chain poisoning me on a

daily basis.

We first go to farmers' market, where local USDA certified organic and some sustainable (some say better than organic, using old fashioned organic farming) produce are sold. Mostly vegetables, some but not a lot of fruits are sold on different tents. Some homemade foods are also present as well as organic meat. Then we go to WholeFoods or HEB Central Market to purchase what we could not find at the farmers' market. Pretty soon HEB Central Market will give WholeFoods a run for its money. The Central Market sells very good looking fresh organic produce, specially its organic herbs. I suggest go to your local farmers' market. Do a search on "farmers' organic markets" follow the prompts. We are in Austin, Texas, and there are still farms around here that do sustainable farming. I am sure every area has some kind of farmers' market. Melly

HI, I also recommend hemp seed oil. It has all the THCs removed by the way. It has a better balance of fatty acids than flax seed, and it tastes better.
