Tammatha,

Please let me know how you make out with the oleander for your dog. I don't think mine has Cushings, at least not yet. He is on the prednisone but it isn't permanent.... will be on it for a few months in decreasing dosages. The same for the cyclosporine (Atopica). Since these are immunosuppressants, I worry about cancer as a side effect, but I'll have to deal with that if it arises. This is the fourth time he's been on these meds. His diet and supplements hopefully will address the issues of iatragenic diseases preventatively. I'm going to add some colloidal silver in his water. I had given it to him in the past, but not steadily. Good luck.

Bob,

I'm going to start my dog on the OPC in addition to using it myself. I emailed Marc about his thoughts on using it for my dog and he felt it would be beneficial. He was diagnosed with Cushings three days ago and has arthritis. I'm not too keen on starting him on the recommended drug of choice for the Cushings from the conventional vet. I too have him on many supplements as well along with the raw organic no grain food, enzymes, probiotics liver herbs, trace minerals, sockeye salmon oil, etc. With Cushings one of the symptoms is a yucky, patchy, balding, brittle coat my boy has a lusterous, shiny coat at 12 yrs old. Goes too show you a raw food diet definately helps all us mammals. I won't vaccinate him either, I stopped about eight years ago. Let you know if I see an improvement in him after taking the OPC.

Nonie,

I now (after the fact) have an exemption for rabies vax by the state and my vet. I had to take a rabies titer to prove he didn't need one... it was VERY high (24), so he certainly does not need a rabies vax. I do think this was the cause of his hemolytic anemia. Now what to do about it? I've started him on Australian Flower Remedies Auto-Immune ANEMIA ABFE, made from Bluebell, Green Essence, Kapok Bush, Little Flannel Flower, Macrocarpa, and Flannel Flower. This is available from Copper Tree. Tele#613-623-3630. They also have a web site. I haven't started him on the oleander just yet because he is doing so well... although this is no indication that the condition is cured. He usually does well for 8 - 10 months between bouts anyway. You would never know he was ill.. he runs around and plays like a puppy until the anemia strikes. Now I think emotional upset might trigger it, although it's just a guess on my part. I thought the proteolytic enzymes might work because the body attacks his RBC's for a reason... maybe due to viral, bacterial, or parasitic disease on the surface of them. Nobody knows, but the proteolytic enzymes would help digest foreign proteins on their surface. I thought it was working until he had his last bout... so obviously I'm back to square one again. I'll let the board know if I use oleander in addition to everything else I'm doing (green grass powder, enzymes, probiotics, organic foods only, milk thistle extract for his liver, etc.). He's probably the healthiest "sick" dog on the planet!

Well, one of the main causes of auto immune dysfunction is vaccinating. Rabies is the worst and you can get an exemption. A sick animal or child should never be vaxed! The manufacturers say this themselves!! I'm sure many, if not all of you are aware of this. It is deadly to human and animals and certainly a main cause of cancer, which is also auto immune. Keeping children and pets away from doctors and processed junk food is a major plus for allowing them to thrive, instead of suffer with chronic disease and die young. Classical homeopathy is excellent in getting the immune system working properly again.

I'm always confused by auto-immune problems. I just think our system is NOT made to do this, ever. If it was normal then we'd all be dead. I just haven't figured out why the body does this. . Wrong intercellular communication. But how to get it all to start communicating again? I'm going to check out that mushroom product more. My friend that told me about it mentioned one other product that is suppose to do the same thing, but I can't think of it now. I'll have to talk to her again.

Bob,

Yes, I will let you know. Too bad you have to keep your dog on the predisone, that in itself can cause the Cushings plus many other issues (liver especially). Sounds like you are doing all you can as I and always looking for something new. Good Luck to you as well.
