Guest guest
Mary, actually, and ironically, I've got a blissability. You see, I'm 100% disabled from Nam (brain damage) and I'm completely incompetent. However, that just means I can take my time. Some of the articles at that site took years to write. With no deadlines, I'm free to research and write and research and re-write. My particular forte (I once taught writing at the college level) is being able to simplify complex things without oversimplifying. Some tell me that reading my work is like having a conversation over a cup of coffee. And then....I have proofreaders. However, I am currently out of proofreaders. Here's is the story of my blissability: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder The article took over 4 years to write, is considered by many experts to be one of the best articles ever written on the subject, and I get mail due to it on a daily basis. I'm not really your glass half full kind of guy, but I do believe that every challenge in life is an opportunity. My brain scans show damage, but on the other hand, my photographic eye and creativity have been upgraded in the process. I also publish my photography at my site: www.mnwelldir.org and here are two photos that have won critical acclaim: Golden Girl & Virginia Morning So, as you can see, I've been blessed to do this work, and play lots of tennis at the same time. Guest guest
David, you are an inspiration! You continue to research and write, and in the process have touched so many lives. What a blessing that you have found your place in the world - something that so many of us, " disabled " or not, have never been able to do. Your talents have not been wasted. I just came across this article from Dr. Mercola. Perhaps somewhere down the line this new knowledge can be utilized to help those traumatized. Here is an excerp: -Emotional memories of traumatic life events are stored in a particularly robust way by your brain, making effective treatment very difficult. Researchers have now successfully tracked down the molecular bases of these strong, persistent memories. It has long been known that emotional memories of both a positive and a negative kind make strong impressions on your brain, and consequently have a very large effect on your behavior. A research group has shown that the enzyme calcineurin and the gene regulation factor Zif268 decisively determine the intensity of emotional memories. For the first time, this has enabled the regulatory processes at the synapse, which are important for emotional memories, to be linked to the processes in the cell nucleus. Researchers found that although traumatic memories can be overcome slowly through intensive training, they are not replaced. Negative memories, they say, need to be actively replaced by positive memories. While the research has no clinical applications at present, it could eventually lead to an understanding of the mechanisms underlying psychological traumas or brain diseases related to memory problems. Sources: Nature Neuroscience May 2008; 11(5):572-8 Thanks for all you do, and for your excellent contributions to the group.
