Guest guest
Chelation, in simple terms, is binding of metals in an organic medium. An example of this are metals that are taken up or " chelated " when plants grow in soil that contains heavy metals such as lead, arsenic and mercury. (Why you should be careful of where you plant your garden). Certain plants do a better job at this than others, and are used to actually clean lead and mercury from the soil. Chelation also occurs in bottoms of streams, rivers and lakes when the heavy metals that have accumulated there are ingested by benthic organisms (the tiny critters that live in the mud) and then are eaten by other fish and travel up the food chain (resulting in warnings about eating fish from certain environments). Chelation therapy is used to remove heavy metals from the body. Various natural and manufactured substances can be ingested or injected and will complex with metals in the body to help them be naturally eliminated. While this was used to save lives after poison gas attacks in WWII, it could be a dangerous practice for someone wanting to eliminate heavy metals from their bodies from casual exposure (such as arsenic in treated lumber or mercury in dental fillings). Because the chelating agents can bind with any metal ion, it can remove essential trace metals that help our bodies function better. As I understand it, cilantro, onion, garlic, and seaweed are some natural chelating agents you can incorporated into your diet to help remove heavy metals. Better yet, avoid heavy metals -- limit consumption of " top of the food chain " fish, wash off pesticides or buy organic, have your soil tested if you live in an urban environment before you plant food products in your garden, wear a mask and carefully tent and clean areas if you are sanding old paint, don't use old treated lumber (like railroad ties) as borders for your garden or to construct playgrounds or other structures. Lobby your electric provider to comply with current air pollution standards for new construction (the old plants don't have to) especially if they are burning coal. OK, sorry for the long post. -- Mary Alford Mary Alford, LLC (Green Building, Energy Star Consultations) www.chemohairapy.com Useful Gifts for Cancer Patients! Guest guest
Hi Rhoda, If you visit the Adult Mercury and Frequent Dose chelation lists, there's a lot of information about when, how, what and why not that's very helpful. Number one thing is to be extremely cautious about chelation while you still have metal in your mouth, ie, don't chelate until it is all out - not even saunas or chlorella. Alpha Lipoic Acid is supposed to be the only substance which can move mercury out of the brain - but it needs to be used very low dose at set intervals or it can cause a lot of trouble. Gail. Guest guest
What I find most interesting is that if an amalgam is made properly, no mercury can possibly "escape" for this is the definition of an amalgam...it's an entirely new substance. I interviewed a metallurgist once who tried to teach dentists how to make a proper amalgam but was told to go away because he was not a dentist. He tried to explain to them that they weren't metallurgists, but to no avail. I'm going to take this stuff below with a grain of salt. I've NEVER heard of anyone on chelation therapy losing fillings. And getting the mercury out of our organs is always a good idea. David Any more thoughts on this? In a message dated 5/23/2008 11:59:21 A.M. Some people date their worst mercury poisoning symptoms from the point they swallowed a broken filling. Also metals coming out of the fillings may bind to your organs when being moved around the body by potential chelating agents. So by chelating while they are still there you risk poisoning your body and finding yourself sicker than when you started. The metal in the mouth is a continual source of ongoing exposure to mercury and other metals. The mercury is released constantly into the mouth and things like chewing and heat increase the amounts released as vapour. Because of the heat involved saunas also cause this vapour release increasing the amount of mercury inside your cells rather than sitting in your teeth. For more information go to: http://www.danasview.net/sitemap.htm Go down towards the bottom of the page and click on Heavy Metal Chelation where you will find lots of useful information. This site is put together by a Mum who has used to chelation to bring her children back from autism and a lot of it is relevant for people with autoimmune issues and cancers where heavy metal exposure is a possible causative factor. If you don't think you have enough money for the necessary dental work, I'd say do what you can to maintain and improve your current level of health with nutrition and lifestyle and start saving - if you can afford to replace one filling every month or even every 2nd or 3rd month then that would be the pace to go at. Every time a filling is replaced there is a risk of exposure and extra nutritional support is needed - so going slowly is a better approach anyway. There is also a called dental chelation to look for advice about how to go about all the different dental options.Gail. Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. And getting the mercury out of our organs is always a good idea. David Any more thoughts on this? Well, I had 2 of my 4 "mercury" amalgam fillings removed last year and my holistic dentist instructed me to start using sun chlorella to help remove any mercury. He used all kinds of precautions to keep any vapors trapped so none of us would be exposed, but, I still felt quite sick for a couple of days after each was removed. But, he didn't say the other 2 might become loose. Just my experience. I am still using chlorella, mainly because I have heard the mercury does continue to gas off each time you chew and some diseases, like ms are caused by this. Don't know if that is true. Guest guest
Why only 2 amalgams?---I'm still paying off the $2500 for those and can't afford the next $1500 to get the other 2 yet! Hopefully, by the end of the year. Nonie
