Guest guest
She makes her own lobelia tincture. What you,d find in the stores wouldn,t be very powerful any way. I,ll write her and ask if she has any advice to offer. Renee ---- Thank you so much for your response. Please check with your friend. This month seems to be a "rock and roll" month, since he has had more seizures than he has had in a while. We thought we were getting them under control and really thought we had found the root cause with the change in diet, but now things seem to be going in reverse. Please find out also where she got the lobelia. I'm hesitant to use over- the-counter supplements, but if we could find a reputable source for them that would not be a problem. Guest guest
Here is the info I got back from the herb list. A few people have answered so far. The last one is the woman who's son had seizures. I will send you her addy privately. Hello,/ Every time I read the word "stress' in your letter, the herb skullcap came to mind. I do not have issues with seizures but I can attest to it being a great herb for anything stress related. Not only is it effective in the short term, it is also said to be nutritive to the nervous system, thus being a safe call for anyone with any nervous or stress related disorders. I would highly recommend it be added to this persons regimen both ongoing and increasing during higher stress periods.I use it often and have seen amazing results with others.Good luck.....Will Renee, my friend had great success with smoking scullcap when pre-seisure signs started. She said pot was the first choice, but it is illegal and she refused to try it. Elaine Short form answer for now, please send to your friend.1. Check for hypoglycemia and have a high protein snack before bedtime.Cheese is good.2. Blaylock's book, "Excitoxins" discusses the MSG, aspartame, brainIrritators. I am glad they made the connection. Recommended reading for everyone,Not seizure limited.3. Increase healthy brain fats: fish oil for EPA and DHA, virgin coconutOil, high quality butter as well as olive oil. EPA and DHA can make a hugeDifference. Charlie got 10 grams of fish oil a day.4. Tulsi tea (Holy basil) may help to calm as can SJW and a few other herbs.5. L-Taurine amino acid calms some neurotransmitters. B-complex and enoughUseful Magnesium are also critical in controlling and diminishing theFrequency and duration of Charlie's seizures.6. Lobelia inflata is very effective with just a few sublingual drops toStop seizure activity, it is not preventative.7. NEURONTIN is awful. See and ask for help on withdrawal from theNeurologist and/or _www.Andrews-reiter.com_ (http://www.Andrews-reiter.com) WeFirst sought their help with Charlie in about 1988.8. A side-effect of Lamictal is cancer.Hope this helps and tell these folks it is OK to contact me directly.Mjh
Guest guest
One more thought from the herb group In your friend's report on their life style, she mention they drink well water. Since they live on a farm with well water, nitrates in the water can be a real possibility. Even though they have tried to live chemical free doesn't guarantee the previous owners of the land, or those surrounding the land, are living chemical free. I suggest she get her water tested for chemical contaminants particularly nitrates. Just because it is a deep well doesn't guarantee it can't get contaminated. Since he reacted so badly to eating bacon (full of nitrates again) I think nitrate contamination may be a real possibility. She mentioned they raise some of their own produce. There again test the soil for nitrates. Removing chemicals like nitrates from the water can be a hard or next to impossible task. My well sits next to a farmers field that hasn't been farmed for twenty years but the fertilizer nitrates are still in the ground and thus leach into my water. It's worth her looking into Contaminated water given the extreme sensitivity of her family. Eating fava beans daily or making a fava bean extract (dopamine) and taking St. Johns Wort (SSRI) may also help. I wish her all the best. Guest guest
Shara, the May 2008 issue of Dr. Marcus Laux's newsletter " Naturally Well Today " has an article about seizures. It relates his experience in working thru the medical system that is still in the " dark ages " to find help for his son who developed seizures at 7 months. It is a lengthy article, and I hope you can find a copy to read for yourself, but here are some of the highlights: He talks about what we think we know about the brain, and the mainstream treatments. The first thing he recommends trying is the ketogenic diet in which about 0ne-third patients become nearly or completely seizure free, and another third are helped. But he says it is important to start the diet in a hospital because it can have toxic effects. There is a website that he says is a reliable source of info: http://www.charliefoundation.org He says to find out if you have parasites and if you do, get rid of them. Check with your pharmacist for any prescription and over-the-counter drugs for potential drug interactions. Neural tissue in the brain becomes hypersensitive to irritation with low B6 levels. Anticonvulsant drugs cause B6 deficiencies. Many people cannot utilize the form of B6 (pyridoxine) that is found in most supplements because they lack the ability to convert it to its activated form, pyridoxal-5'-phosphate (P5P). The resultant deficiency can at least contribute to, if not cause, a seizure disorder. Rather than take megadoses of vitamin B6 which can worsen seizures, he recommends taking P5P for its superior absorption, 25mg daily. Some people have been helped when taking Taurine sublingually, 15-20 drops of the liquid daily, or as in injection. (MSG depletes taurine levels) L-Lysine, another amino acid found naturally in dairy, meat, and fish has been found to have brain-suppressing effects similar to those caused by anticonvulsant drugs, but without the side effects. It also has a synergistic benefit with GABA. GABA is the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the human brain. Any disorder of GABA's functions in the brain can lead to a seizure . He says that only natural GABA from Japan has had any benefit for his son. The Japanese dosage is 250mg, 3 times a day. Boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is created when the amino acid tryptophan is converted in the body to 5-HTP, which is then converted into serotonin. Vitamin B6 is involved in this conversion. At every meal eat one or more of these: turkey, seafood, quinoa, whole grains, brown rice, legumes, eggs, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and almonds all of which contain tryptophan. I hope this will be helpful to you, Shara. And by the way, I hope you are taking care of yourself. Being a loving care-giver is one of the hardest jobs on earth. I am in awe of all the things you are doing! Guest guest
Betty, Tony, Loretta, and the rest of you guys, Thank you, thank you, thank you! I apologize for not responding to any posts for the past couple of days. My husband is now back to himself again. This month was the toughest one we've had in a while. I had no time to get through the posts, except just glance at them because he was having a very difficult time. However, I am going to go through and make a list of all the suggestions that we're not already doing. You guys don't have any idea how much I appreciate the responses. I'm new to this group and decided to take a shot, since all the advice I read on oleander and other topics was so good. Please keep posting more information as you get it. We've been dealing with these things for the past 11 years and know that the medications don't work. We were satisfied for a while that they calmed them down, but now they aren't even doing that. He is going to wean off the Neurontin, but it will be a slow wean, probably over the next 1 to 1-1/2 months. He's been only taking it once a day (instead of the prescribed 3 times a day) for about a year now and the seizures have stayed the same until this month. As soon as I get my list made, we're going to get the suggested herbs and supplements (if I can find natural supplements...I'm a stickler there...otherwise, I'll find a way to make them myself, lol). We're also getting rid of all offending pots and pans. We'll be getting filters for our showers and sink, since our house water is city water. Our spring shouldn't be tainted, since this land was not farm land. It's mostly rocks and clay...hardly grows weeds! Our fertilizer is from our animals and they eat naturally too, so no worries there. Our dirt is our compost put into holes dug into the rocks and clay. So much to process, but thanks to you guys, I know we will finally be able to stop these things. Again, thank you so much and please forgive me for not responding sooner. And Betty, now is my turn to take care of me. I'm going to get up early in the morning and go get some guineas to get rid of all the icky little bugs around here, lol! I'm tired of picking ticks every time I go for a walk...sigh...I love living in the woods!! Guest guest
Tony, We definitely live in the woods! Snakes, ticks, sticks that trip me, and a creek! We LOVE it! However, we're just now beginning work on the farm, so there are a million things left to learn. I am so glad you put the article about pasteurized and homogenized milk. We have goats that supply our milk, butter, and cheese. We're getting some kefir grains in the next week or two also. Our kids were a bit reluctant to drink raw milk at first, but now they're sold. We free range our rabbits and chickens, even though someone told us last week that rabbits shouldn't eat grass! Can you imagine? We just smiled and went on. We even use natural remedies on our animals! They're a lot healthier than they were when we lived in town. Our neighbor to the east just clearcut his entire woods. It is so sad. The land looks like it's scarred. Fortunately, we own the strip of woods between his land and ours and, even though he wanted to buy that strip, we kept it and have trees between us and that sad portion. My husband and I walked up the hill to the clear cut area. The feeling was that of desolation. We had walked up there when we bought this place and it was so peaceful and happy. The difference was astounding. So sad. Our neighbors to the front spend all week cutting their grass. It's cute to watch them. They have about 3 acres of lawn each. They start on Saturday morning and finally finish cutting about Tuesday. Then, they start again on the next Saturday morning. They spend so much time manicuring. Our rabbits are in movable cages, so they take care of the mowing for us. The horses take care of the part across the creek. Man, they can mow it down in NO time, lol. In the meantime, I'm out picking dandelions, violets, and chickweed for supper most days. Oh yes, and the watercress that is going crazy right now. It's a wonderful life! Things left to do are to start raising bees, build a bat house, harvest the May apples (there are TONS in the woods!), and finish planting the garden. Oh yeah, and to learn a million more things about natural healing, herbs, making tinctures and decoctions, etc. I love this discussion board. You guys are so knowledgeable and are helping me so much in this journey. Renee's story was amazing! I keep cayenne around all the time, but always forget it when we're bleeding! Post more about stimulating memory...I think I have " old- timer's " disease, lol. Acutally, I think it's because there is usually so much going on that I forget the obvious until the crisis is over! Thanks so much for all your help this last week. I'm still processing information. There is so much I have to learn. You guys are great! Shara oleander soup , " Tony " wrote: > > We understand!
