Tony's Note: This is yet another non-oleander post. However, it was

a prominent member of this group (with a small initial assist from

myself and another member) who exposed this fake drug scheme and

helped bring this man to justice, at no small cost and sacrifice.

We despise and condemn those who prey on illness and suffering with

fake cures as much as we cherish and praise those who provide us with

safe and natural alternatives to the evil concoctions made in the labs

of the greedy pharmaceutical giants.

MIAMI—Arthur Vanmoor is facing 20 years or more in federal prison

after being convicted of selling false cures for cancer, migraines,

the flu and cramps over the Internet.

Vanmoor, 48, was convicted of 19 counts, including charges of mail

fraud and wire fraud, violations of the Food Drug and Cosmetic Act

(FDCA), and Conspiracy to commit these offenses.

The evidence at trial revealed Vanmoor hired individuals to create and

write content for websites with names such as

http://www.cancercure.org

and

http://www.migrainemiracle.com

to promote his products, " Cancer Control " and " Migraine Miracle, " by

falsely claiming that the products were FDA-approved drugs guaranteed

to cure numerous forms of cancer and migraine headaches.

Vanmoor further arranged for the websites to contain fake articles

from doctors with pictures of people dressed like doctors holding the

products as well as phony patient testimonials recommending the products.

Previously, on Dec. 22, 2005, the U.S. Attorney's Office obtained a

temporary restraining order against Vanmoor and others prohibiting the

continued promotion, advertisement, production, shipment, and/or sale

of " Cancer Control, " " Migraine Miracle, " " Flu Fighter, " and any other

non-FDA-approved drugs in interstate commerce. Evidence at trial

showed that Vanmoor nevertheless continued to maintain his websites

and calling lines after the entry of the temporary restraining order.

The conspiracy count carries a maximum statutory term of imprisonment

of five years and a maximum statutory fine of $250,000. The maximum

statutory term of imprisonment and fine for each of the mail and wire

fraud counts is 20 years and $250,000, respectively. The maximum

statutory term of imprisonment and fine for each FDCA violation is

three years and $250,000, respectively.

Vanmoor, also known as Big Pimpin' Pappy, was previously convicted and

jiailed for 18 months for racketeering related to a prostitution ring

in Florida. He was deported in 2004 after serving his sentence.

According to the U.S. Attorney's office, his South Florida enterprise

had " accounted for up to 90 percent of the escort service listings in

Broward County's 2002 Yellow Pages " .
