Guest guest
Been there, living it everyday, in the trenches! I teach at a " special " school already - 20 % LD and ED children and 30% ELL learners in an environment of over 50% African-American, and over 75% of the poppulation of my school on free or reduced lunch. (For those of you who doon't understand those abbreviations: that is LD - " Learning-Lisability, " ED - " Emotional Disability, " and ELL - " English Language Learners. Guest guest
Hi Janna, hope you had a great July 4th! I am in east Texas, and your response answered my question that I was going to post today. I wondered if oleander could be grown in a pot. What kind of oleander do you grow? I did a search on ebay and saw that there are several varieties with different colors of blooms. Is it easy to care for? We have had rain here almost daily since school has been out. Have you made the oleander tea? Are you consuming it now? Please share your experiences! Guest guest
Janice and May, Any oleander - it only comes in pink or white, that I know about is fine. But before you order on ebay, check your local nursery. Since you are in east Texas - maybe near the coast? Houston, corpus Christi, you may find that it is all around you and you didn't even know it. The guy at my local nursery told me that the only reason that it wouldn't do well in Memphis, was the freezing rain/ice, so it would need to be brought in in the winter. You might need to do that if you are in an area where you have any freezing during the winter. I will probably need a bigger pot for mine this fall before I bring it in. Before you make a batch you need to go back to the board for this group and print off the directions that Tony has posted and read them a few times to really understand them and buy the equipment that you need. In the mean time, you can spray the plant's leaves with a mixture of water (distilled or reverse osmosis), vinegar and hydrogen peroxide to remove any pesticide over spray that might be on the leaves, even though the guy at my local nursery told me that oleander plants don't have to be sprayed, because pests don't like thme;-)!! I have never made oleander tea and don't know how you would do that. I have made one batch of oleander soup, which I did not filter as well as I should have -it should, I think, be clear and not have any sediment. Mine was almost clear, but when I mixed it with the vodka, thinking that it would kill any bacteria that cooking didn't killed, there was a lot of sediment at the bottom of the bottle. I had had 5 people in my family die of cancer; my mother just the month prior to my diagnosis. The dr convinced me of the urgency of lumpectomy, chemo and radiation. Then, when I tried the first batch of oleander soup, not filtered correctly, I didn't fair too well but tried to stick it out for a few weeks. I did mix at the same time, some creme which, while it has not done anything dramatic, none of the moles and skin tags have come up as anything but that. I am thinking about making another batch or ordering from the guy in So. Africa, especially since that olender has a plant/herb with it that helps with mood, and I have suffered with depession all my life and a little relief from that would be nice. Anyway this is probably way longer than you meant to get, but I hope that it answers some questions. There are people in this group who are much more knowledgeable than I am, but I will be glad to communicate with you. Hope that you had a happy 4th. Guest guest
Oleanders grow all over the south. Get yourself some and then grow them organically. After your organic plants are growing, when you harvest them, you might want to leave some of the spiders, mites, etc on them and not wash the plants. Just break or cut them up and put directly into the pot. Remember the rainforest movie w/ Sean Connery? The ants were more medicinal than the flowers! After cooking and straining, you will remove any particulate matter anyway. After you add the vodka or gin, there are always 2 layers that form. Just put the mix in home canning jars, and store in your refrigerator. Shake vigorously a few seconds before you take a dose. I always wipe clean the mouth of the jar and the canning lid before replacing the lid on the jar. Dr. Goebel oneSearch: Finally, mobile search that gives answers, not web links. Guest guest
Hi Janna, No, your response was not long at all and I thank you. You are indeed very knowledgeable and you have been through so much, bless your heart. Oh by the way, Oleander Tea is another name for Oleander Soup. It is the same thing. I was hoping that Oleander Tea would magically turn into a wonderful tasting soothing tea just by the name. Uh.... no. It's soup by a different name. I have an oleander plant that I recently purchased and it is also in a pot, as it does tend to get very cold and freeze here during the winter. I am just concerned that it will fare well in the house during the winter. I bought a pink oleander plant, but while looking outside the window, I think I may have had a white oleander plant all along. I'm not sure I must examine it to be sure. Anyway, I enjoyed reading your informative post. Thank you!
