Guest guest
Is the soup toxic when it is highly concentrated, say as far as when you would want to mix it with a cream? Do you mix the condensed soup with vingegar or vodka before putting it in a cream? How far down do you boil down the original brew to know when its done? One quarter of the pot left, so? Also, if in 4 hours the brew has boiled down A LOT, do you add more water to it to get it up to a recommended volume? Thanks for the answers in advance. Guest guest
The soup contains cardiac glycosides which cross assay with digoxin/digitalis, and so is technically " toxic " at any level of concentration. Therefore, the more concentrated, the more toxic. Now, at the recommended preparation and concentration levels for oleander soup, it is far from dangerously toxic when taken at the recommmended dose levels - and the instructions are quite clear about starting very small and gradually building up. When you do so, even the maximum level is far from dangerous. Likewise, when further condensed and used as a topical cream, it is would not be dangerously toxic. The key is to make it according to directions (they are posted here in the files section, as well as in my book - which also contains handling and preparation tips). The key is to boil it at least as long as it calls for, and add water to maintain the desired level as time goes by. If your brew has boiled down " a lot " in four hours, you may have boiled it at a higher temperature than needed, but you should be OK so long as you add enough water to bring it to the specified level. Personally I would rather it take a bit longer than 4 hours to reach the desired volume level than to reach it far too soon. The best way to measure is by specific gravity - and you can find one or more posts about doing that here in this forum. oleander soup , " William " <greenwaves11 wrote: > > Is the soup toxic when it is highly concentrated, say as far as when > you would want to mix it with a cream? > > Do you mix the condensed soup with vingegar or vodka before putting it > in a cream? > > How far down do you boil down the original brew to know when its done? > One quarter of the pot left, so?
