THINK DOCTORS KNOW NOTHING ABOUT NUTRITION? NEW GUIDE CHANGES EVERYTHING

It's a common complaint that doctors know nothing about nutrition. But

that is all set to change. The Physicians Committee for Responsible

Medicine (PCRM) is distributing a 900-page nutrition guide to medical

students in the United States and Canada free of charge. The guide not

only provides basic information on risk factors and typical treatments,

but it also provides evidence-based information on the role of nutrition

in prevention and treatment. In addition, the guide contains in-depth

information on general nutrition, including the roles of macronutrients

and micronutrients and specific nutritional requirements for all stages

of life.

Moderators Note: Someone could give me an auto repair manual, but that would

not make me a mechanic! This might be a good first step, but I think it falls

far short of being able to make such a claim of " New Guide Changes Everything " .

It would be nice if they released this nutrition guide for review and comment by

those involved in natural health and nutrition.

Better still, if the book contains sound and unbiased information, if they made

the the book part of a required course that had to be passed in order to obtain

a license - merely passing out the book does not insure that it will be read or

heeded.

Best of all would be, if they gave a truly useful book not only to the students

who will be the doctors of tomorrow, but to the hundreds of thousands of doctors

of today who have been provided no such information - and then devised a way to

make sure our present doctors read and heed the book. As it is, even if the

guide is a good one, it will take a couple of generations before the majority of

our doctors have this information.
