This case has been going on for years during which time the feeding tubes were removed twice--once starving her for a period of six days before Florida Governor Jeb Bush intervened. The media keeps saying that Terri is in a vegetative state---but this is not true. Terri's husband, Michael Schiavo, does not want her to regain her communicative abilities. Why? If you follow the story and put two and two together you will be able to figure it out for yourself. Schiavo now has the very powerful ACLU and 'Right to die" groups such as End-of-Life Choices, formerly the Hemlock Society, behind him. If this case is allowed to proceed, not only will an innocent human being be put to death by the slow torture of deliberate starvation and denial of water, but it will set a precedent for euthanasia (to a large extent already happening in the US and Canada) and will be actively promoted for those who are no longer considered contributing members of the community. In other words the "useless eaters" (Kissinger quote).... First they came for the....... (you know the rest) ************************ Personal disclaimer While my personal opinion is that people wishing to end their life due to unbearable suffering should be able to do so with dignity, this decision making process must be extremely clear and personal--conditions that are not anywhere met in this case. While I may not be of the same opinion on all subjects with some of the people involved with saving Terry Schiavo, this case overrides any personal beliefs. ******************************************************* http://news./news?tmpl=story & u=/ap/20050225/ap_on_re_us/brain_damaged_woman_27 Man Cleared to Remove Wife's Feeding Tube 55 minutes ago U.S. National - AP By VICKIE CHACHERE, Associated Press Writer PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - A judge gave Terri Schiavo's husband permission to remove the brain-damaged woman's feeding tube in three weeks, handing him a victory in his effort to carry out what he says were his wife's wishes not to be kept alive artificially. AP Photo AFP Slideshow: Terri Schiavo Right-to-Die Case Judge Extends Stay for Terri Schiavo(AP Video) The ruling by Pinellas Circuit Court Judge George Greer will allow the husband, Michael Schiavo, to order the tube removed at 1 p.m. on March 18. In the meantime, the woman's parents, who want her kept alive, are expected to ask another court to block the order from taking effect. The judge wrote that he was no longer comfortable granting delays in the long-running family feud, which has been going on for nearly seven years and has been waged in every level of Florida's court system. He said the case must end. "The court is no longer comfortable granting stays simply upon the filings of new motions," Greer wrote. "There will always be 'new' issues." The tube keeps the 41-year-old disabled woman alive. The husband, Michael Schiavo, says he is seeking to carry out his wife's wishes not to be kept alive artificially. The decision came on the 15th anniversary of Terri Schiavo's collapse, when a chemical imbalance brought on by an eating disorder caused her heart to stop beating. The parents were at the Pinellas Park hospice where Terri Schiavo is being cared for when Greer's order was issued. They were planning an afternoon news conference. Greer previously granted Terri Schiavo's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, a stay until 5 p.m. Friday. The judge made his decision after pleadings from the parents that they need more time to pursue additional medical tests which might prove their daughter has more mental capabilities than previously thought. State officials also are trying to intervene in the case. Attorneys for the Schindlers said the state wants a 60-day stay to investigate allegations that she is being mistreated by being denied appropriate medical care and rehabilitation. The Schindlers and their son-in-law have fought each other in court since the late 1990s on whether Terri Schiavo should live or die. The two sides have battled through scores of opinions and rulings and tens of thousands of pages of filings. The feud has taken on elements of a soap opera, with allegations that it began as a fight over more than $1 million awarded to Terri Schiavo in a medical malpractice case which her husband stood to inherit. Michael Schiavo has also been accused by his in-laws of having a conflict of interest in wanting his wife dead because he has started a new family with another woman. The Schindlers do not believe their daughter is in a persistent vegetative state as court-appointed doctors have ruled. A leading Vatican (news - web sites) cardinal also has weighed in on behalf of keeping Terri Schiavo alive. "If Mr. Schiavo legally succeeded in provoking the death of his wife, this would not only be tragic in itself, but it would be a serious step toward legally approving euthanasia in the United States," Cardinal Renato Martino, the head of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, told Vatican Radio on Thursday. ************************************************************************** Part of a message from wethepeople_united regarding Teryy Schiavo's case: .....About Terri...I've had a couple of threats to back off... Alex added something I didn't know...Terri's husband is a nurse working in law enforcement...I knew he was supposed to have become a nurse out of compassion for his wife but not that he worked in the law enforcement arena...That explains why we are so puzzled as to how he escaped blame for what he did to Terri I only want to add here for those that might not know that a couple years ago they removed the tube and starved Terri for six days...Imagine... bush ordered the tube to be put back... The severely disabled Florida woman whose life was spared by an executive order by Governor Jeb Bush to halt her court-ordered starvation, has, according to experts, sustained injuries consistent with abuse. Michael Schiavo, Terri's estranged husband, who has been in a long-fought court battle with Terri's parents to end her life, fuelled suspicions of abuse when he sought and was granted a court order that Terri's remains would be cremated immediately following her death. Terri's parents, the Schindlers, were requesting an autopsy. Other factors pointing to abuse include: - Testimony of nurses who looked after Terri indicated that Michael was verbally abusive to Terri and may have attempted to kill her by insulin injection and attempts to induce pneumonia by turning the thermostat in her room to 64 degrees. - Michael Baden, one of the most acclaimed forensic experts in North America, in an interview on Fox News National Television broadcast Saturday said Terri's bone scan indicates that Terri's injuries are not consistent with the suggested explanation of a heart attack or potassium imbalance. He said they are consistent with severe trauma possibly caused by a beating and would warrant an immediate investigation. - Dr. William Hammesfahr, Nobel prize nominee and neurologist, testified that Terri's neck injuries are consistent with only one type of injury: that of strangulation. Commenting on the case, Alex Schadenberg of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition said, "It would come as no surprise to me that she had been abused previous to her disability, knowing that since1993 she has received continuous abuse by being denied basic medical care, visitation of loved ones, religious visits, and any form of rehabilitation." Schadenberg warned however that the practice of euthanasia by withdrawal of nutrition and hydration from people who are not otherwise dying is common both in the United States and Canada. He pointed out that the argumentation around the case is not addressing the central point that nutrition and hydration should not be considered medical treatment. He noted that a 1990 U.S. Supreme Court decision wrongly allowed nutrition and hydration to be considered medical treatment. In response to the six-day denial of food and fluids to Terri Schindler-Schiavo, the National Right to Life Committee is calling on state legislatures throughout the nation to move to protect people with disabilities from being denied food and fluids. The organization has issued a "Model Starvation and Dehydration of Persons with Disabilities Prevention Act."
