Guest guest
As I write this note to you, the death toll in Asia continues to mount, and I find it hard to think about all of the pressing issues we have here at home. Our thoughts are with all of the survivors, and with those in mourning. We have important actions today to protect choice and to fight AIDS, as well as info on how you can help relief efforts in Asia. Thank you for receiving Political Alerts from Care2 and ThePetitionSite. In this issue:1. Say it Loud: Choice Must Remain the Law of This Land2. Tell Bush to Get Serious About the Fight Against AIDS3. Asia Quake Disaster: How You Can Help 1. Say it Loud: Choice Must Remain the Law of This LandPetition: http://www.care2.com/go/z/20052 While we do not know what Chief Justice Rehnquist's immediate plans are due to his failing health, we do know that President Bush will have an opportunity to appoint at least one, and quite possibly three, justices to the Supreme Court in the next four years. Bush essentially has the opportunity to radically change the face of the court, and those of us who are concerned about the fate of Roe v. Wade need to pay close attention. And we need to speak up now: http://www.care2.com/go/z/20052 We'll keep you informed as retirements are announced and nominations are made, but right now it is critical that we tell our government loud and clear, we want America to remain the land of the free and a country where women have a choice. Tell Bush to Get Serious About the Fight Against AIDSPetition: http://www.care2.com/go/z/20039 AIDS is one of the most pressing moral issues of our time. The disease is ravaging the African continent and leaving a devastating legacy for survivors. Everyday, some 6,500 people die from AIDS in Africa, leaving behind a generation of orphans. For 2005, Congress has allocated $2.7 billion for the fight against global AIDS, or just 0.1% of the total U.S. budget. To put this in perspective, U.S. spending on AIDS next year will equal just 5% of annual U.S. spending on national defense. America can and should do more to fight global AIDS! That's why we need a minute of your time. Care2 is working with non-profits to urge the U.S. to commit 1% of the federal budget to fight this devastating disease. It would make a huge difference to kids who are suffering. It would make our country more secure. Tell Bush to get serious about the fight against AIDS: http://www.care2.com/go/z/20039 3. Asia Quake Disaster: How You Can HelpSpotlight: http://www.care2.com/go/z/20054 The death toll and scale of human suffering from Sunday's massive 9.0 earthquake in Indonesia is staggering. We have pulled together a list of organizations that are actively working on relief efforts with links on how to donate to their efforts: http://www.care2.com/go/z/20054 This list is not comprehensive, and we will add to it as we learn more, but it represents many of the major organizations working to help those suffering. Talk about it: Do you know of people in the disaster region? How are they doing? What are you doing in your life to reflect on the tragedy, to help those in need? Share your stories, you feelings, and your concerns with your fellow Care2 members: http://www.care2.com/go/z/20060 Thank you for all that you do, Rebecca,Care2 and ThePetitionSite teamhttp://www.care2.com/go/z/rebecca Thank you for signing up to receive Political Alerts via ThePetitionSite or Care2 website!
