However, some viruses are written to disable virus software and infect the computer while the person thinks they are protected. ;-) Cute ha. Guest guest
I'll pass this on. On EPCEL we do not allow attachments as a rule. Sometimes the attachment facility is switched on, an attachment sent, then switched off to prevent virus spread. I suggest Attilio your group does the same. Sammy. Guest guest
I have taken Sammy's advice and stopped the use of attachments via the TCM group until sorts out this virus problem. I hope this doesn't inconvenience anyone. And don't forget, from tomorrow will remove all attached messages held within the archives, probably because of this reason. I'm still getting a lot of virus messages coming through and I'm sure others are aswell. It's not restricted to just this group either, everyone is experiencing problems. Guest guest
Until I installed Norton Antivrus (NAV) and Firewall, I was plagued by viruses. I have had several computer downs because of them and lost lots of valuable files over the years. Just a couple of weeks ago I was trying to get in touch with a TCM doc and her computer was infected - she unknowingly sent me a virus which my NAV effectively dealt with. BUT she is effectively prevented from using her computer, and of course she is not able to email anyone, until her whole system is repaired. Don't let it happen to you. Check out http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ I wish I had bought shares in NAV a few years ago ! Sammy. Guest guest
I would add to that. Once you have an anti-virus program installed, make sure that you regularly (at least once a month) download the most recent anti-virus data files. The program you put on your machine only knows about viruses up to the point the CD is cut. Since hackers continually create viruses, especially those designed to attack Microsoft products (too big a target to resist, I guess), anti-virus programmers are constantly creating fixes. So include updates in your plan for computer health. Karen
Guest guest
Everyone pl be careful opening any attachments even from myself and familiar senders. When a computer is infected, the worm will set up a backdoor into the system by opening TCP ports 3127 thru 3198. This can potentially allow an attacker to connect to the computer and use it as a proxy to gain access to its network resources. In addition, the backdoor has the ability to download and execute arbitrary files. I've turned off the ability to attach files to messages in the likely event of a virus trying to go through to the group. I'll turn this function back on when the virus has finished with itself. Guest guest
The virus will not be able to spread through this group as email attachments are not permitted. I cannot quarantee it as does not have that function. That's more to do with your own anti virus software on individual pc's. Everyone who ever uses the internet should have a anti virus software aswell as a good firewall.
