Does

anyone have a complete list of supplements and foods that lower

chlosterol?

Blue-green algae Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (http://www.bluegreensolutions.com)

is a

source of dietary polyunsaturated fatty acids and a hypocholesterolemic

agent.

(research by R.

I. Kushak, C. Drapeau, E.

M. van Cott, H. S. Winter. Annual

Meeting of the American Chemical Society, Chemistry and nutrition of highly

unsaturated fatty acids. March 21-25, Anaheim, Ca.)

This was published in the Journal of

American Nutraceutical Assoc. medical book a few

years ago:

ABSTRACT

Background: Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are

essential for human health. There are indications that the lipid fraction of

blue-green algae Aphanizomenon flos-aquae

contains about 50% PUFA and may be a good dietary source of PUFA. The purpose

of this study was to investigate the effect of diets supplemented with algae on

blood plasma lipids.

Methods: Rats were fed with four

different semisynthetic diets: 1) standard, with 5%

soybean oil; 2) PUFA-free with 5% coconut oil; 3) PUFA-free with 10% algae; 4)

PUFA-free with 15% algae. After 32 days the levels of plasma fatty acids,

triglycerides, and cholesterol were studied.

Results: Rats fed the PUFA-free

diet demonstrated an absence of linolenic acid (LNA)

in plasma; however, supplementation with algae resulted in the same level of

LNA as controls, increased levels of eicosapentaenoic

acid and docosahexaenoic acid, and a decreased level

of arachidonic acid. Dietary supplementation with 10%

and 15% algae decreased the plasma cholesterol to 54% and 25% of the control

level, respectively (p<0.0005). Plasma triglyceride levels decreased

significantly (p<0.005) after diet supplementation with 15% algae.

Conclusion: Algae Aphanizomenonfios-aquae

is a good source of PUFA and because of potential hypocholesterolemic

properties should be a valuable nutritional resource.

Hi Shirley,

Supplements for lowering LDL cholesterol (Phytomega, ProvexCV and FiberWise).

PhytomegaPhytomega's patent-pending breakthrough formula is the only product to combine plant-based phytosterols with heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids to naturally reduce LDL "bad" cholesterol and promote healthy triglyceride levels.Works with PROVEXCV and FiberWise Taken with PROVEXCV and FiberWise, Phytomega improves your whole cardiovascular system! While Phytomega reduces LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels, PROVEXCV helps prevent the remaining LDL cholesterol in the blood from oxidizing and enables healthy platelet activity. Add FiberWise, which expels toxins, fats, and cholesterol from the body, and you have the perfect combination for complete cardiovascular health!

What makes Phytomega workFirst, the phytosterols - (plant-derived molecules that mimic cholesterol) effectively block your body's absorption of cholesterol in the intestine. Because the phytosterols in Phytomega mimic cholesterol, your body absorbs less cholesterol and less enters your bloodstream. The unabsorbed cholesterol passes out of your body as waste. By lowering these cholesterol levels, Phytomega helps reduce your risk of heart disease.

Second, omega-3 fatty acids are a form of polyunsaturated fat, a "good" fat. They are essential for good health, but your body cannot make these fatty acids. In the 1970s, scientists made one of the first connections between omega-3 fatty acids and human health while studying the Inuit people of Greenland. The Inuit diet of whale, seal, and salmon is very high in fat, yet they suffer far less coronary heart disease than other populations. Researchers realized these foods are rich in omega-3 fatty acids - which give the Inuit natural cardiovascular protection and other health benefits. These fatty acids help maintain healthy triglyceride levels in your body. Research has shown that people with elevated triglyceride levels are at a higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease - specifically ischemic stroke* - as well as other risk factors, including diabetes and hypertension.

*Consult your physician before taking this product if you are pregnant, lactating, under a doctor's care, taking any medications, or before administering to children under the age of 18.

You can try the undenatured, bioactive whey protein from Immunotec Research, and it is patented to prevent cancer if one doesn't have one yet, and will help fight cancer (also patented) when one has one. In addition, it helps to fight other modern diseases such as diabetes, fibromyalgia, CFS, lymes disease, heart disease, and many many more. Let me know if you need more info on any of the above supplements.

I don't have any " List " , but I have been taking Red Rice yeast and I also

have about a half a cup of oats on my regular cereal in the morning.

Sometime I put a few Tablespoons in my yogurt. The doctor had me on Lipitor

awhile back. I started the leg cramps and he took me off right away. That

is when I did my investigating and it seems to have helped alot.

Does anyone have a valid reason to lower cholesterol? I thought not.

See the " Cholesterol Myths " by Uffe Ravnskov, the most published

cholesterol authority on the planet. Note well his credentials, and

also that he has nothing to gain by exposing the inner workings of

the corrupt medical machine.

http://www.ravnskov.nu/cholesterol.htm

He says people with high cholesterol live longer.

Carol answered your direct question -- there are actually several

other fods that reduce cholesterol levels, but the world's leading

cholesterol researcher makes a better point on this Weston Price

Foundation page:

http://www.westonaprice.org/know_your_fats/benefits_cholest.htm

....that being, people with higher cholesterol live longer. Check out

Uffe Ravnskov's dozens of peer-reviewed papers on his home website:

http://www.ravnskov.nu/cholesterol.htm

So, having dealt with the chlesterol myths, why would anyone want

cholesterol-reducing foods? Suicide by low cholesterol?

Judy,

the reason doctors don't know much about natural remedies is because they all

have many pharmaceutical salesman visiting them every week, giving them a spiel

and leaving them a load of samples of the new medications. That's how they practice. Lynn

--------

Lynn,

You are so right – “that’s how they

PRACTICE” – they are practicing on people. It is not an exact science, they don’t

know how different drugs might affect different people – they just have

to keep practicing. Well, no thank

you, let them practice on somebody else, not me!

I read a very interesting survey several years ago where

they asked first year medical students how important they thought nutrition was

for health, and about 88% said very important. The same question was asked to third

year students, and only about 18% answered very important. So what happened to their minds from

first year to third year????

I went to my doctor yesterday and saw a PA for the first time-older guy. I told him about going off Bextra and my success with Red Rice Yeast and oats. He didn't even acknowledge that I even made a statement in that direction.

Carol, I don't want them to practice on me either. I

think what happened to the medical students between

years 1 and 3 was a thorough brainwashing.
