Today's Signs of the Times points out the recurring mystery of another

scientist working with communicable diseases suffers an untimely demise.

STATEMENT

 

On the Death of John R. La Montagne, Ph.D.,

NIAID Deputy Director

 

John R. La Montagne, Ph.D., deputy director of the National Institute of

Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) of the National Institutes of Health

(NIH), died suddenly in Mexico City on November 2, 2004. He was 61.

Comment: From another report we learn:

 

" Henderson also announced the untimely death of Dr. John R. La Montagne,

assistant director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious

Diseases, who suffered an apparent heart attack last night upon his arrival

in Mexico to participate in the meeting. Henderson asked the participants to

observe a minute of silence for La Montagne, who he called " a distinguished

member of this group who knew more about vaccines and immunization than

anyone in the world. "

 

Over the past few years the world has witnessed the mysterious and untimely

deaths of many scientists involved in chemical and biological research, most

if not all were involved in research into chemical or biological weapons or

the research into and development of vaccines for various human illnesses.

Given his area of expertise and coming as it does at the beginning of the

flu season, the untimely death of Dr La Montagne, is worrying.

 

The following article, published today by the LA Times, informs us that Dr.

Montagne had been involved in the development and promotion of a technique

to minimise the dose of flu vaccine while maintaining its effectiveness.

Could this have had anything to do with his demise?
