Dear Deb,

I am replying to you from my e-mail program Outlook Express. This way I can work off line. This saves me on telephone bills. I am not on 24-hour cable link. I hope my mail not only reaches you but the too. Let us see.

Now, as below, you asked me for the methods of temperature testing at home for low thyroid function.

"PLEASE GO AHEAD AND TELL US MORE...I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE OTHER TWO...THANKS DEB".

The first one is the easiest. Just stick the thermometer under the arm (armpit) for 10 minutes before finally rising up from the bed. Minimum cut off is 36.5 degree C. Note it for three days.

The second one is by mouth. Take your under-the-tongue temperature every three hours since you rise up from the bed. Thus, if you rise up at 7AM, then take the mouth temperature at 10AM, 1PM, 4PM. Calculate the average of the three readings for each day for three days. The minimum cut off for each day in this method is 98.6 degree F (Wilson's cut off is 98 degree F).

The third method is as follows. When you rise up from the bed, switch on the bright lights and stay in bed with eyes open. Reading, going to bathroom are ok. After 30 minutes, place the thermometer under your armpit for 10 minutes staying in bed with eyes open. Take these readings for three days. The minimum cut off for each day is 97.8 degree F.

My and my son's temperatures are below the cut off and we have some of the symptoms too. Our lab tests show we are in the bottom of the normal range for T3 and T4. Physician refuses to treat us because our lab tests are normal. I have therefore started eating chicken neck and whole (small) fishes. We are blood type O who are prone to low thyroid functioning and adrenal in-sufficiency.

Regards.

Ratan.
