Dear Starris,

Thanks for that clarification of what she was told 20-30 years ago.

So..........

When their prediction that her thyroid would become cancerous in 20-30 years has come true and she has been on

"syntheroid since the first diagnosis" can the doctors that will now make thousands of dollars in tests and treatment of the cancer with a ______% effectiveness rate of curing the cancer so that she doesn't have to spend the rest of her life supporting the cancer industry finally dying of the cancer tell her was it

A. The failure of the syntheroid to "cure" the thyroid problme or

B. the synthreroid causing the cancer?

Another factoid to know would be how much does 20-30 years of synthroid cost?

After my experiences with my Mother while accompanying her to her "health care" visits to the doctors before she died,

I strongly suggest carrying a tape recorder and a witness to every doctor's visit, two part paper where you can document the patient's understanding of the information and advice recieved during the visit and ask the nurse or receptionist to sign as having recieved it with the patients request that the copy be maintained as a part of the permanent medical record. If the staff is instructed not to sign your note as having been recieved, reconsider health care options and insurance/private assets funding.

After Mother's ineffective chemotherapy and mastectomy and more chemotherapy, when the cancer grew enough to be seen around the mastectomy scar, I accompanied her to the surgical oncologist for the biopsy. When I questioned him about the life expectancy so that I could best plan how to care for her when while she would be dying a slow and painful death as it metastisized to her brain, lung, ect. I was finally informed that the life expectency rate for breast cancer with all their bells and whistles after 5 years was 30%.

Asking an oncologist what their track record is at the beginning of the very lucrative cancer game might be something that your friend would want to ask him/her on her next visit to get the biopsy results.

It's also a very good idea to insist on getting a copy of all the test results so that if a 2nd opinion is sought you already have the record copies from the time of the tests and don't have to alert the 1st doctor by the 2nd doctor's request for record copies and to shorten the time necessary to get the copies.

Of course, with the FDA approving the implantable microchip that will keep track of all the medical records and ???

the medical records will be able to be downloaded electronically without the patient necessarily getting a copy of what is on file about them.

Everything listed in the PDR is written by the producing drug companies and lists only the side effects they are required to list and that were tested for. There may be other side effects that they know about, but are not required to list. If they weren't required to test for a particular side effect, it won't be listed either.

In Janie's case I didn't mean to imply that syntheroid caused cancer. Does it? I meant to say that when she was first diagnosed with low thyroid, they told her that her thyriod would eventually become cancerous. They estimated that would occur within 20 to 30 years. They have had her on syntheroid since the first diagnosis.

She took a friend with her yesterday and was indignant because the friend asked the dr too many questions.

Syntheroid is very expensive, but like I said, she has fancy insurance. The problem with it is that it's a synthetic hormone which tricks the body into believing it has enough of the hormone, so the thyroid no longer has to try to produce any and atrophies. Their next step will be to remove her entire thyroid. Then What??
