Thanks for this info. I was put on synthroid when I was about 21 years old. After a year the dosage was doubled. I asked myself then, if it has to be doubled in 1 year, where would I be when I'm over 50. That was 30 years ago. Now I know the possible answer to that question. Thank you very much. Is cancer listed as a side effect in the Physicians Desk Reference that is available over the internet?

It's very painful to watch iatrogenic medical problems develop in your friends and loved ones and emotionally stressfull. They make their decisions and we amke ours. I've decided that you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him think. Provide the information and if it's not heeded, remind them when what you predicted comes to pass and perhaps they will heed your advice now. If not, don't let their choices drive you into an early grave with stress.

HRT, Vioxx, Antidepressants and now synthroid.

All cause terminal illnesses.

All approved by the FDA while Codex threatens to deprive is of nutritional supplements.

Is it about time we started growing "Victory Gardens" just to stay alive before the price of fuel makes it diffucult for fresh food to be brought to the markets?

Re: Low Thyroid?

Hi Starris:

<<Let me cry on your shoulder? My good friend has hypo, low, thyroid and fancy health insurance. She has been on syntheroid for 20 years. They told her in the beginning that it would turn to cancer in 20-30 years. Yesterday she went in for a biopsy.

>>==>I didn't know that Syntheroid caused cancer. Glad I went off it years ago and use herbal alernatives instead!

<<They stuck her in the neck 6 times because they couldn't get enough T cells. I bit my tongue because I know biopsies can spread cancer but she won't listen because I'm not a dr. When they couldn't get enough T cells, they decided to take out one thyroid (soon) (YOU HAVE TWO??!?) to get a better look. Said she'd be OK with the remaining one. YOU HAVE TWO?>>

==>It's my understanding that the thyroid gland is shaped like a butterfly, so it sounds like they took out 1/2 (or one side) of the gland. Why would they do this instead of a surgical biopsy is beyond me.

<<I remarked that if her problem was LOW thyroid, maybe missing one would make it lower.>>

==>I'm not a doctor-type person, but this would be my assumption too!

<<She said the dr knows, not us. Does this sound like an outrage?>>

==>What's outrageous is that she refuses to do her homework and become an active participant in her own health care decisions. Denial ain't just a river in Egypt, but that's why it's surrounded by sand - for people to stick their heads in. I don't know what you can to do help her if she won't listen.

Everything listed in the PDR is written by the producing drug companies and lists only the side effects they are required to list and that were tested for. There may be other side effects that they know about, but are not required to list. If they weren't required to test for a particular side effect, it won't be listed either.

In Janie's case I didn't mean to imply that syntheroid caused cancer. Does it? I meant to say that when she was first diagnosed with low thyroid, they told her that her thyriod would eventually become cancerous. They estimated that would occur within 20 to 30 years. They have had her on syntheroid since the first diagnosis.
