Low Thyroid?

Hi Everyone - A few people over the past few years have told me that if your eyebrows are disappearing - that is a sign of low thyroid. I thought that was kind of odd but.....

For the past few years I have been losing my eyebrows (I'm only 39) - to the point where half of one is almost completely gone.

I do have some other symptoms (gaining weight for no reason, extremely dry skin, coarse hair, irregular heartbeat) - so I do intend to have myself checked by my physician.

Has anybody ever heard of this eyebrow connection before? I know - it sounds funny.

Yes the diminishing eyebrows with low thyroid is true. If you get checked out for low thyroid---go to a naturopath as most conventional physicians do a test that is not truly indicative of all possible causes of low thyroid., and often do not show correct results.

Let me cry on your shoulder? My good friend has hypo, low, thyroid and fancy health insurance. She has been on syntheroid for 20 years. They told her in the beginning that it would turn to cancer in 20-30 years. Yesterday she went in for a biopsy. They stuck her in the neck 6 times because they couldn't get enough T cells. I bit my tongue because I know biopsies can spread cancer but she won't listen because I'm not a dr. When they couldn't get enough T cells, they decided to take out one thyroid (soon) (YOU HAVE TWO??!?) to get a better look. Said she'd be OK with the remaining one. YOU HAVE TWO? I remarked that if her problem was LOW thyroid, maybe missing one would make it lower. She said the dr knows, not us. Does this sound like an outrage?

Hi Starris:

<<Let me cry on your shoulder? My good friend has hypo, low, thyroid and fancy health insurance. She has been on syntheroid for 20 years. They told her in the beginning that it would turn to cancer in 20-30 years. Yesterday she went in for a biopsy.

>>==>I didn't know that Syntheroid caused cancer. Glad I went off it years ago and use herbal alernatives instead!

<<They stuck her in the neck 6 times because they couldn't get enough T cells. YOU HAVE TWO?>>

==>It's my understanding that the thyroid gland is shaped like a butterfly, so it sounds like they took out 1/2 (or one side) of the gland. Why would they do this instead of a surgical biopsy is beyond me.

<<I remarked that if her problem was LOW thyroid, maybe missing one would make it lower.>>

==>I'm not a doctor-type person, but this would be my assumption too!

<<She said the dr knows, not us. Does this sound like an outrage?>>

==>What's outrageous is that she refuses to do her homework and become an active participant in her own health care decisions. Denial ain't just a river in Egypt, but that's why it's surrounded by sand - for people to stick their heads in. I don't know what you can to do help her if she won't listen.

I didn't mean to say it does. When they put her on it, they said her thyroid would become cancerous in 20 to 30 years. That time is up, that's why they're trying to find cancer now. I think they mean her thyroid stinks and they're sure she'll end up with cancer in it. So if syntheroid is the cure, why do they think that?

She'd tell me off if I suggested herbs or iodine or anything else. She refuses to ask the physician if they have irradiated it. I know knowing that would make a big difference. I guess if they had irradiated it, they wouldn't be considering taking it out? Is that right?

Thank you for the hand-holding,

Starris

<<I didn't mean to say it does. When they put her on it, they said her thyroid would become cancerous in 20 to 30 years. That time is up, that's why they're trying to find cancer now.>>==>So her docs are just on a fishing expedition rather than trying to diagnose clinical symptoms? This is sounding odder and odder.

<<I think they mean her thyroid stinks and they're sure she'll end up with cancer in it. So if syntheroid is the cure, why do they think that?>>

==>Syntheroid only stimulates the thyrod to function better (supposedly). Not everyone who ingests or is exposed to carcinogenic substances develops cancer. If her thyroid is so low, that doesn't mean it's cancerous; more like it's just functioning lousy. Cancer is uncontrolled cellular growth - not a poorly functioning organ.

<<She'd tell me off if I suggested herbs or iodine or anything else.>>==>It's so hard to deal with a closed mind :-(

<<She refuses to ask the physician if they have irradiated it.>>==>Is she that FEARFUL of knowing what's really going on??

<<I know knowing that would make a big difference. I guess if they had irradiated it, they wouldn't be considering taking it out? Is that right?>>

==>She would certainly know if she had radiation treatment. Nobody is THAT dense. You can have radiation, yet the docs will leave the organs in, which may or may not develop cancer down the road (not a high likelihood of that from radiation alone). Example: I had colon cancer when I was 22. Had nasty pelvic radiation, no hyterectomy. Now I have breast cancer at 44 and docs want me to have hysterectomy because breast cancer can metastisize there, despite the prior radiation. Ugh!!

<<Thank you for the hand-holding,>>

==>You must be soooo frustrated since she won't listen and it sounds like you have good information to help her out. My friend's mother has leukemia and won't listen to me either. However, she did bring my emails to her oncologist who is instituting some of my suggestions with his patients! Now ain't that awesome? So she at least does have an great doctor that thinks outside of the box, but I really wonder about your friend's docs and what they're up to. Hopefully you've planted some seeds in her mind with what you've told her and common sense will bring her around. All you can do now is just be there for her and bite your tongue (hard to do, I know!). Good luck,
