Presc. Drug Sales Report, Codex Alimentarius, Healthy Beds, and More

There is a world-wide war going on over control of health care: big pharma versus us. In this issue, the two-pronged attack of the big pharmaceutical companies is illustrated. The first report is the top ten drugs being sold in the U.S. All told, the drug business sold $216 billion in 2003! And the daily brainwash goes on to sell more. Secondly, these same companies are behind the movement to take away your supplements under the guise of protecting your health. By doing so they eliminate any competition for what they are selling. Please contact your senator and congressman and let them know that you wish to keep your health care choices. We still have a choice, but unless millions of us are heard from, that choice will shortly be history.

The Prescription Drug Business Is Alive and Well in America. Are You Supporting Their Habit?

The 2003 annual prescription drug report was just released, and Pfizer's cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor skyrocketed sales, with $6.8 billion alone, according to Forbes. Pfizer's total revenue was $29 billion, twice that of Johnson and Johnson, Merck, or GlaxoSmithKline, and three times the revenue of everyone else.

Merck's cholesterol-lowering drug, Zocor, pulled in $4.4 billion. The total money made on these cholesterol-lowering pills climbed up to 13.9 billion, an 11% increase from last year. Overall in 2003 there were $216 billion worth of prescription drugs sold — 9.6% more than . . .

Why Will Codex Alimentarius Make Dietary Supplements Illegal?

I have had cancer twice and today I am alive because natural dietary supplements are available. The European Union Directive on Dietary Supplements, if adopted by our country (and this is entirely probable), would make these supplements unavailable to me, thus signally my demise. — Pinellas Park, Florida resident

" Codex Alimentarius " — even the name itself sounds pernicious. Codex Alimentarius is an international commission set up to regulate food standards and safety, its mission to " protect the health of consumers and ensure fair practices in the food trade " on an international level. By standardizing dietary supplement safety, Codex Alimentarius aspires to " harmonize " supplement trade among nations.

While this may sound like a good idea, in reality Codex Alimentarius, created by the World Health Organization and the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, could spell the end of free access to at least 300 dietary supplements. The new regulations would make many dietary supplements illegal, and treat others like prescription drugs.

The problem with the Codex Alimentarius committee, writes Maureen Salaman, is that " the delegates that make up and decide on the CODEX mandates are 90% members of giant multi-national pharmaceutical corporations. " Under the guise of increasing safety standards, the real goal of these pharmaceutical corporation delegates will be to restrict dietary supplements from consumers and push pharmaceutical drugs instead.
