Holistic Alternatives, Inc. has been at the forefront of the fight for freedom of choice in medical treatment since its founding in 1973. We have worked diligently to provide an uninterrupted flow of nutrients and food supplements deemed necessary by holistic practitioners for the continued good health and maintenance of their patients.

We have made our reputation by providing the finest supplements available at the best possible prices. We have also specialized in acting as a "spearcatcher" for those physicians which wanted to use suppressed supplements in their practices, but did not wish to dispense them from their offices.

Along the way Holistic Alternatives and its predecessor, A.O. Supply Co., have not only endured attacks by the FDA and state and local regulatory bodies, but have been victorious in Federal court against them. After an FDA raid in 1977 our founder, Steve Michaelis, R. Ph. filed suit against the FDA in federal court and in a landmark decision the court found for the company. The court found that the possession of amygdalin, hydrazine sulfate, vitamin B-15 and other supplements was NOT illegal and ordered all confiscated items returned. The federal district court denied all appeals as did the federal court of appeals. The FDA was forced to return all items, including laetrile and others and to pay monetary damages.

Unfortunately, in 2000 these court precedents were ignored. Both the company and its president, Ken Michaelis, were indicted and both were forced into a plea bargain in 2001 on the charge of "defrauding the FDA". Ken served 6 months in a half-way house and 18 months on probation. The company was forced to stop providing the life-saving nutrients it had been distributing for 28 years.
