Julia Ross in her book The Mood Cure mentions of a

study on bipolar cases for whom mixture of EPA and DHA

totalling 9,600mg daily ( over nine and half gms) was

used with excellent results and no side effects. In no

other study has such a high dose been used to my

knowledge. But Julia Ross did not give the reference

details of that study. Anybody knows the reference

please?

Ratan.

Dear Ratan,

I am aware of only two studies using extremely high dosages of

fish oil. One is an Australian study (1988) and one at Harvard. The

Australian study showed that 18 grams of fish oil a day (eighteen

capsules of 1,000 mgs) for three months resulted in fewer sore

joints and measurable improvement in grip strength in arthritis

patients. The Harvard study indicates that EPA helps protect the

body against attack by its own immune system,

in RA, Lupus and other auto-immune diseases. This study was reported

in the New England Journal of Medicine. There was also a similar one

reported in the Lancet.

There are many benefits to be obtained from EPA and DHA. Judy

Lindbergh McFarland in her book, " Aging without Growing Old "

recommends that we take 7,000 to 10,000 of fish liver oil

as an anti-aging therapy.

Regards, JoAnn
