Guest guest
http://www.karlloren.com/Diabetes/raw-food-diet.htm Our Government recommends EXACTLY the wrong diet, and we eat it!It is painfully obvious to me that the medical profession urges you to use EXACTLY the wrong diet for diabetes, and for that matter, heart disease. The government then enforces this wrong diet. Unbelievably they tell you that it is OK to eat sugar and that your diet should be high in carbohydrates, low in protein. The exact opposite of these recommendations is the truth. In all my 15+ years of exposing government lies, this is now the biggest and worst of them all! These Government-recommended diets CAUSE diabetes and heart disease! This page was first published in 2000. Now, near the end of 2001, the government is finally admitting that the data here is true! Here is a note added in June 2002. The US government is finally looking at its own food proportion recommendations as a possible cause of the poor health and overweight in America. Click here to read a June 2002 article in the Wall Street Journal on the Food Pyramid. Another article in that same WSJ describes how various food companies are starting to worry that they will be sued, like the tobacco companies, for misleading people into thinking that their food was healthy. Of course, much of it is not!How can I, a mere author from California (of all places) disagree with eminent authorities? Well, it is easy. When you read the research, even the research paid for by the drug companies, (more than 2,000 pages of research studies in this section alone) you cannot avoid the conclusion that a diabetic should NOT be eating sugar and MUST have supplemental chromium in his diet. This article is connected to more than 3,000 pages I have compiled to bring you the truth about diet! This page presents the "Karl Loren Diet," but it is different from any diet you have ever looked at. I do NOT suggest particular foods. I suggest you LEARN the principles of food. When you understand these principles you can then make food decisions without reference to some "authority." We suffer from too much authority in our lives now, anyway! The American Diabetes Association does NOT recommend chromium but DOES recommend sugar! Here is what they say about sugar:CARBOHYDRATE AND SWEETENERS -- The percentage of calories from carbohydrate will also vary, and is individualized based on the patient's eating habits and glucose and lipid goals. For most of this century, the most widely held belief about the dietary treatment of diabetes has been that "simple" sugars should be avoided and replaced with complex carbohydrates. This belief appears to be based on the assumption that sugars are more rapidly digested and absorbed than are starches and thereby aggravate hyperglycemia to a greater degree. There is, however, very little scientific evidence that supports this assumption. Fruits and milk have been shown to have a lower glycemic response than most starches, and sucrose produces a glycemic response similar to that of bread, rice, and potatoes. Although various starches do have different glycemic responses, from a clinical perspective first priority should be given to the total amount of carbohydrate consumed rather than the source of the carbohydrate. [source]I can't consider this anything different from mass murder! The portion in larger type, and underlined, above, is where the American Diabetes Association is linking to the government-sponsored high-carbohydrate diet. What the ADA is saying is that you should be on a high carbohydrate diet, and that within THAT diet it doesn't make any difference what type of carbohydrates you get -- sugar or vegetables. That is criminal!"Sarah," in late October 2000, wrote to me for suggestions on handling some of her health problems. I referred "Sarah" to this page on November 1, 2000, and she and I then engaged in a lengthy exchange in which she claimed that it was more healthy to eat potato chips than baked potatoes! This is what the false information does in our society. Click here to read the remarkable story of a woman who is badly delusional about health -- who has many, many health problems, but continues to believe that "fine quality" junk foods are OK!She will remain sick because of the earlier illness -- the willingness to accept and believe false data on health!Later, "Mary" wrote to me about her health problems. We had a very lengthy exchange of eMails, all available HERE. You will probably not believe the magnitude of her health problems and the terrible diet she was on because she thought it was RIGHT -- the recommended diet from the American Diabetic Association! Here is a different Mary! She writes to ask how she get off Dilantin -- and when she tells me abut her diet -- you won't believe the diet she was on. Click to read the actual dialogue between us as I helped her recover her health. This story, by the way, allows me to comment on the terrible commercial baby formulas -- the ones a good mother would never feed her baby. There is one author whose books are mostly out of print -- Adelle Davis -- who has the best advice and information on nutrition of anyone I've ever read. Click here to review some of her material. There is much evidence that "politically correct" concepts about health are causing disease and death! There is, for instance, fascinating evidence that autism is caused by or aggravated by milk and grain. Click here for the heartwarming story of how one mother cured her son's autism despite doctors telling her that it could not be done. The American Heart Association has proposed a diet that causes heart disease. When I published that, some years ago, the AHA lawyers actually sent me a lengthy letter demanding that I remove certain information from my web pages, and threatened to sue me if I did not! I have their letter published on my web site, along with my response. I haven't heard a peep out of them since I published my reply on the web. Obviously I have not removed any of my material. What should your diet be? My first answer is that you should NOT trust the government's recommendations, nor those of the American Heart Association nor those of the American Diabetes Association. For that matter, your doctor, in the grip of authority, is not a source of good diet information either! The first evil substance you should recognize is sugar. If you cannot agree with this about sugar, even after reading this entire article, then there is not much chance you will accept my further advice on diet. Diet is mostly a matter of mental discipline, not magic pills! This diet article certainly includes concepts first developed by many others, but the final diet recommendation is different from that developed by any other person -- it is my own very personal research and finding. One of those differences is that I have developed a gradient and sequential approach to getting on my diet. That is, I don't expect you to start with my entire diet at one jump! I think you should get off sugar first -- and just that change may take you some time. I'm ahead of you -- to help! But, my diet is a sequential thing -- get off sugar first, and when you have succeeded with that step, take the next step. Constant progress, not speed of progress, is your key to good health. And the progress has to be on a gradient you can handle in your life. Successfully reducing your sugar intake is more important than trying to stop completely and failing. So, if you can move through and adapt this diet in one day, more power to you. But if it takes a year to get off sugar, do it on your own pace. Just be sure you are making constant progress, not fooling yourself about your progress!Just get on this steps leading up to health and make constant progress.Basic Instinct!Wolves Howl! It is their nature to howl!Wolves Howl! It is a basic instinct that has probably not changed for millions of years! Man has basic instincts -- we don't even question their existence! (That howl you may have heard when this page loaded comes from this Timber Wolf! Click your refresh button to hear it again!)I believe that man has several instincts that seem very basic. Of these, the most basic is the instinct to survive -- to continue living. This is the driving motivation in all living things - man, animal and plant. But, very close to that instinct is another -- that is the instinct to desire and experience sensations. The two sensations that probably come first to mind are sex and food. The human body seems to desire the sensations of sex and food. They also seem "natural," since without sex, there would be no children, and no future. Without food there would be starvations and death. So, these desires for the sensations related to the basics of life seem very rational. But, it is also obvious that a person can be very insane on the subject of sex -- seeking sexual sensation far, far beyond that needed to create children. There are vast quantities of energy devoted to sexual activities that have nothing to do with creating children -- these would all be classified as pursuing this instinctive desire for sensation for the sake of the sensation itself -- not for the sake of survival. The desire for food sensation has obviously gone far beyond the needs of the body -- to a degree of obesity in our society that is now contrary to survival. The drive to survive is sane and logical for any living thing. The next instinct may have seemed to have survival value, but it certainly doesn't in today's world! Desire For Sensation is, I think you'll find, exactly contrary to survival, and thus an aberration today. The original survival value of the desire for sensation probably related to "good things taste good" and "bad things taste bad." If that were always true, then the desire for sensation would be wholly useful. And, it may even BE true of natural tastes -- that is, food items that have never been cooked or processed beyond their original natural form.I had an interesting experience while writing this. I live high in the hills of Burbank, with a beautiful view of the San Fernando Valley. My wife, Jean Ross, and I live in an area where we have coyotes walking past our front door and our back yard every night -- and deer walking down the street and coming into our yard. I had heard complaints from my wife, and from neighbors, that the deer ate the roses. Well, I never saw that and we have so many rose bushes that it seemed to me that we always had fresh roses in the house. We also have a large bird feeder in the back. It holds 25 pounds of bird seed, and often will be emptied in just a few days. The bird feeder is on a pole stuck in the ground just 18" from the backyard fence. One day, as my daughter looked out the back picture window, onto the back yard, she saw a deer eating our roses! He had a five point horn (each side) so that's a pretty big deer. He was IN BETWEEN the bird feeder and the fence -- stuck in that 18" space, gently poking his nose through the bars of the fence and nibbling the rose blossoms and buds. We stood not 12 feet from him, glass door closed, dogs all growling and eager to go out and defend the territory, but he just kept eating. I believe my wife now when she says that virtually ALL our roses are eaten by the visiting deer. The point of this? Well, I think that the desire for sensation in the deer leads him to eat exactly the right foods for him, at the time he needs them. To eat JUST the rose blossom, or bud, must mean that there is something in that flower that is needed in the deer's diet -- something he doesn't get from grass or other food sources. After all he has to come close to a house, where dogs bark, and poke his nose THROUGH a fence to reach a rose bush, and then even put himself into a tight spot -- just to eat a rose flower. I don't know what is in the rose that the deer needs and I don't think the deer "thinks" about it the way I might, but I do know that deer like roses. So, as I've suggested, man's instinctive desire to satisfy his cravings based on sensation seems to work not very well for man, but the similar desire for sensation must be leading the deer to eat what he eats. Well Done! Deer! Among the various sensations we experience are those of hunger, thirst and pain. Certainly the sensation of pain would seem to be designed to warn us away from something -- seems pretty sane to me. The sensation of hunger, I've learned, can become very misleading. I've written extensively on the fact that a body not getting enough water will experience a "sensation" that you usually perceive as "hunger" when, in fact, it is "thirst." You react to this sensation of "hunger" by eating when, in fact, the true need is for water -- which is not well served by food. So, the sensation of "hunger" continues (being really "thirst") and you eat more food -- not what the body needs.People often wrongly believe that coffee, soda or tea will handle the body's need for water -- they do not. You experience "thirst" and drink a soda. Somewhere there the proper sensation (thirst) is being handled with the wrong response (coffee) --- so that, again, is an example of the instinct for survival being overthrown by the desire for the sensation of the coffee or soda. These are, of course, both addictive drugs! So, it is clear to me that sensations can be false signals, or perceived wrongly. In this same way the desire for sensation for sweet, for instance, can lead one astray -- trying to satisfy this desire with sugar which is harmful, when some other nutrient might much better serve the body. Click here for an extensive set of pages about SPLENDA -- the artificial sweetener -- I am against it, but mostly because it simply is a cave-in to the desire for the sensation of sweet!t could be that the first "drug" on our planet was cooked food -- it appeared to taste better, but it was harmful to survival. Animals will eat cooked food, but I think only when they have no other choice.Man's desire for sensation seems to be implanted , not natural. Even Aristotle wrote about it. Aristotle didn't have the depth of wisdom of The Buddha on this subject. The Lord Buddha rightly counseled that man would not be spiritually free as long as he was tied to the desire for body sensations. If you study carefully I think you'll find that a great deal of man's behavior is motivated by his desire for sensation. This "sensation" doesn't have some fancy, strange definition.I am talking about, primarily, the desire for sexual sensation and the desire for taste sensation. You might have a sensation of "success" but I am talking about the obvious physical sensations that can be experience by our bodies.I think you'll find that most of the pattern of social behavior you observe can be understood to be man's unending quest for sensation -- sexual and taste. That may be controversial enough to get you off the diet track I'm on -- but let's stay on the diet track and accept for a moment that ancient man, as well as modern man, has an inherent desire for sensation. Sweet things taste "good." Bitter things don't. There are some who would say that "bad" tastes are simply nature's warnings of toxicity? But that is too glib, and not universally true. The desire for sex sensation is probably more harmful and more pervasive, and obviously more hidden than the desire for taste sensation. An article in the Wall Street Journal gives us a peek. Americans spend millions of dollars ever year on internet pornography -- "web sex" is the ultimate in "safe" since you experience it in the privacy of your home, and no matter what foolish psychologist might defend one-handed sex, there can be nothing healthy or natural about this type of "sex." Yet people seek it desperately! The porn viewers were told they were being charged to view sex videos over a phone line to Madagascar at a rate of $3.99 a minute, the complaint says. But the FTC concluded that the phone calls actually terminated in the United Kingdom and should have cost only eight cents a minute. Verity, the agency alleged, intended to pocket the difference. The operation described by the FTC appears to have been huge. In a single week in September, about 67,000 U.S. households received bills from Verity, according to the FTC. The average overcharge was $222, with some overcharges topping $4,000, the agency said. For now I'll limit my writing to man's desire for taste sensation, even though the desire for sex sensation is probably much stronger and has more impact on behavior. I do have an entire web site on the morality of sex and drugs -- click to see. When you have a built-in desire for sensation, along with a desire for simple survival, you can get conflicts. You KNOW (don't you) that cocaine is not healthy, but those who desire this sensation let the desire for sensation overpower their desire for survival. The whole drug scene on this planet can be understood, now, as the drug addict's desire for sensation at the expense of survival.Food Sensation Is Not Actually Usually Taste Sensation -- But SMELL!You might think that McDonalds French Fries have a wonderful taste? Well, read the secret to that "taste" by clicking here. While I spoke of the desire for taste sensation above, and many people would agree that they enjoy the "taste" of food, the terrible truth is that very little of what you consider a sensation of taste actually takes place in your mouth! The great majority of what YOU think is a taste sensation, is actually an aroma that you smell.Man does not at all distinguish between taste and smell in food.Click here to read an amazing expose of how food companies manipulate the "smells" in the food you eat -- you think it "tastes good" but in fact it just "smells good."One of the proofs of this is when you have such a head cold that your nose is all stopped up -- when eat at such times you experience that "nothing tastes good." Sure enough! It's because you can't smell that food doesn't seem to have much taste. The smell of food is very largely controlled by a large number of well-known chemicals that are used widely in the food industry. So, here is yet another reason why the "desire for sensation" is so insane -- it is something we think is the taste of food, but more often is the smell -- and fragrances have as their origin in history the attempt to hide rotten smells of rotten food -- or even poisons.Take another whiff!Social Pressures! There is another source of problem in getting onto the correct diet!Your friends don't do it!Social pressures have a great deal to do with diet. As I've said, my wife doesn't share at all in this diet and I'm going to my son's home for Thanksgiving dinner. He and his family don't share in this diet either. So, I'll be the "only one" eating in this strange way on this special occasion. That is tough to do for anyone! It's hard to go to a birthday party and refuse the cake! It is even harder to then start lecturing to the party-goers about the evils of sugar! If you are a pot smoker, for instance, and all your friends are pot smokers, you will feel very much out of place in the Woman's Christian Temperance Society. The reverse is true, obviously. If you with your American values were to try to live in an African village of cannibals, you could hardly find it "right" to kill and eat your enemies. What is right for them is not right for you. You would have a hard time "fitting in" that group. So, we are a society of cooked food eaters! We are a society of sugar eaters. When you deviate THIS much from such a basic behavior, you will not fit in. Click here to read about my personal experience with compromising my own reality and eating a full complement of cooked food just to "fit in." I regretted it soon thereafter. Even if you suppress your disgust at others eating cooked stuff, you feel it. Even when they are polite to you, they consider you weird. I don't know what the solution for this is, but I am obviously looking for it. This desire to be with people who are "like you" certainly explains why Catholics marry Catholics, usually, and why it is a big deal when it doesn't happen. That is not so rigid today as it used to be, so it's a safe example to use here. When I was young it was a real deviant behavior for a black person and a white person to marry -- still not "normal" but more accepted. In this same way, I suppose, we will arrive at a social acceptance of "raw food eaters." I have "put up with" my wife's smoking for more than 30 years. I don't like her smoking, but I knew she smoked when I married her, and it has never been a 'test' for my love. But, as you consider getting onto this diet I think you had better realize that you will have to make social adjustments that may be uncomfortable. Or, you may decide that you would rather have friends and eat sugar. So be it! Just recognize that BOTH you and your friends will be abandoning logic and good health at the same time. If you can handle this problem in your life, read on!Suppression Itself!Social pressures don't seem to rise to the level of hostile suppression, but suppression, itself, exists in our society. You will find it hard to get onto any healthy activity, including this diet, if you are constantly harassed by suppressive influences.Suppression is the source of stress -- and stress is often cited as the source of disease and death. What is suppression? It is the act and words of some person, generally who is very close to you (a spouse or family member). These acts and words add up to putting you down, telling you that your goals and dreams are not practical. This is the person who tells you that you cannot do something you have announced you intend to do.We are all aware of them. When they are close to you, and persistent in their "put downs" you will eventually get sick, even die.Another part of this suppression is that person who tells you what to think about some subject. You might think of suppression as someone trying to kill or injure you? Yes, that's true, too, but the more subtle forms of suppression are more hidden and need to be understood.I am often requested to give health advice and while I often do this in a straightforward manner, I am always sensitive to the good chance that the person with a health problem is being so suppressed that NO advice will be helpful. Here is an example -- click here -- about a woman whose first question to me was whether one of my vitamin products would conflict with her use of Methadone! Can you believe that?As I explored this subject with her I had to finally suggest that even though she was trying hard to get off methadone, she would have a very hard time doing that as long as she was in an atmosphere of suppression directed toward her. I've obviously changed her name in these exchanges. Here is a story of a great success. This woman didn't even talk to me or send me an eMail. She simply read this page, and the links, and then sent me this story of success.Write to me to describe some situation and I'll help you identify likely sources and examples of suppression in your life -- suppression that would not only make you sick, but prevent you from adopting much in the way of a healthy life style, including a good diet.PerfumesDon't wear perfumes, or suffer them around you.The give you a false sensation of "goodness," and are often used to hide bad smells that might warn you away from something. Perfumes would be covered as to technical by the same material I wrote about the smell of food is usually more important than the taste. Click Here.Death Wishes! There is another interesting factor that can prevent many people from accepting this diet. They are trying to die!One reason people want to die is that they get depressed. That is very often caused by something you may not have thought of -- I call it "wrong relationships" and cover it HERE.Oh! They will loudly claim that this is not true. But, I get message all the time from people who say, "Dear Karl, I want to cure my XX (Diabetes or whatever)!" I might suggest they stop eating sugar! Then I get back the angry message, "Oh, the American Diabetes Association says that sugar is OK!" I point them to my several thousands of pages about the evils of sugar; they come back to me saying, "Oh, my doctor says you are wrong!"I've done this with some number of people -- the exchanges of messages could go on for some length, but finally I realize that there is NOTHING I could recommend as a "cure" that they will actually accept -- that they have a mental condition where they KNOW they can't be cured -- where they would RATHER DIE than admit they might wrong about their diet.Oh, they might be willing to try some "magic bullet" that will make them slim without diet! They don't exist, but the market for them is in the billions of dollars. If this ANGERS you as you read, you may well be one of these people. There is no sense in your reading further. However, there is another aspect to this. If you understand that "YOU" are a spiritual being, occupying a body, and that the spiritual being is immortal, while the body is obviously not -- if you accept that viewpoint, you might then realize that the body goes through a cycle of birth, growth for about 18 years, and then begins a period of slow, then rapid decay to reach death. Thus, the body of just about anyone over 18 years of age is moving toward death. There have been no exceptions to this!If the body IS moving toward death, is it possible that the body is TRYING to move toward death? That's a heretical thought for many -- and I don't insist you accept it, but such a viewpoint can explain how it is that people seem to do things that the body finds helpful toward death. We "KNOW" that sugar is bad for us, but we eat it any way. There are so many of these illogics in our lives, having to do with diet as well as other things, that it is hard to NOT consider that we who occupy these bodies go into agreement with the body's desire for death -- and we, making the decisions, feed it sugar and junk to help it achieve the body goal of death.Think about it.But, the body doesn't have to be so sick. And, do you realize that virtually ALL mammals live to be about 6 times the period it takes them to achieve maturity -- except man?Wild animals (not on human diets) will normally live six times the period it takes for them to reach maturity. Man doesn't make it! Man eats all sorts of crazy things. Wild animals live basically on the diet described on this page. Is it possible that wild animals DO NOT have this desire for death, and therefore don't eat crazy things? And live to the full potential of their species, while man, alone, does not live to the full potential of his species. And, factor in those primitive groups, such as the Hunza, who generally live to the full potential of man's age span -- and, of course, don't eat the crazy things!Food to ponder! But most of the people who are in this mental condition of wanting death will very strongly deny it, but will, nonetheless neglect completely any of the steps toward actual cure. You are the decision maker for your body and you don't have to cave in to the body's desire for death by sugar! The very idea that each person is exactly responsible for whatever condition he is in appeals to only a minority of people -- and only that group will, ultimately, benefit fully from this diet. The Single Most Successful Diet For Prolonging Life!Dean Pomerleau, who practices a Calorie Restriction dietIt is calorie restriction. This really has impressed me, over the years, that longer life, and less disease, in animals and probably in man, comes from calorie restriction more than any other cause.Click on this link to read the story.Could Self Deprivation Be the Secret To a Longer, Albeit Famished, Life? I suspect that this is very valid science, even while, in the same breath I don't think I'm ready to go for it. If I did go for it, I would sure make all that tiny amount of food, for me, to be raw! But, you should know the choice!SugarProbably the single most destructive addictive drug on this planet is refined sugar. Are you addicted to sugar? Click here to take the test for sugar addiction. On the average each American consumes 150 pounds of refined sugar per year -- some eat much less, and teenagers generally eat about double that average!Probably the single most terrible drug on the planet just now is white sugar! You may think that hard drugs, street drugs, are the only true problem: In fact, they are a great problem:More than 6 million Americans are estimated to require treatment for drug abuse problems. New approaches to treatment are urgently needed. [source]These addicts are publicly identified and cause serious disruption in their families and neighborhoods. But, there are probably 200 million sugar addicts. They don't SEEM to be a source of trouble, but then our "health bill" is measured in the trillions. If 200 million Americans quit eating any sugar I think the savings in life and health care would dwarf the costs of treating the problems caused by hard drugs. We have spread the sugar problem out so much that it can't be seen clearly. It is there.Incidentally, if you are reading this because you are in search of a new and better diet for yourself, don't take street drugs. I will be writing on the natural foods that can help you kick drugs, but you can't become healthy with this diet while continuing to do drugs. So, if you are a druggie -- get off drugs. Then take a look at sugar, your next big drug addiction. What Do You Suppose They Eat?These Are Not Likely Readers Of This Page!Cigarettes, coffee and tea are in there somewhere -- and millions are addicted to these. Those who suffer these addictions experience withdrawal symptoms when they try to stop -- so they prefer the sensation of the drug to the sensation of withdrawal symptoms. It would be hard to get on the diet I recommend while you are still addicted to coffee, cigarettes, tea, street drugs or sugar. So, the "market" for my diet ideas is dreadfully small! There is no question that sugar is addictive -- one of the important components of the definition of an "addictive drug" is that you desire it with great ferocity! That plain white sugar is harmful is not controversial except to the millions of people for whom the addiction overcomes reason. Man tends to justify and continue his errors rather than change!Thousands of scientific studies show that eating plain white sugar is, for one, not necessary since you can get all the sugar you need in more complex (and less harmful) forms, but overwhelmingly the science shows that sugar causes disease.Sir Frederick Banting, the co-discoverer of insulin, noticed in 1929 in Panama that, among sugar plantation owners who ate large amounts of their refined stuff, diabetes was common. Among native cane-cutters, who only got to chew the raw cane, he saw no diabetes. [Click here for the source of the quote and an excellent article on the dangers of eating sugar.]So, man has a built-in desire for sensation and one of the most desirable taste sensations is "sweet."I won't try yet to get archeologically accurate, but man has been on this planet for millions of years. During most of that time he was wandering and eating what he could find. I've found that there are actually many people who have no notion of how it has been determined that man has existed on this planet for millions of years. Here is a good article on that question. This article, incidentally, demolishes the concept of a vegetarian having a good diet -- it cannot be done! At least, it was never man's natural diet!Man never stumbled across white sugar in his millions of years! He never found sugar in any form much more than honey (which, incidentally, is one of the finest sources that exists for many enzymes and vitamins -- but only UNHEATED honey). Honey is on my diet, but no refined sugar.Do you want to improve your diet -- in alignment with the most basic and historical needs of the physical body?Well, start by knocking out ALL simple sugar. Why don't you?Because you have this inherent desire for sensation. The desire for sensation OFTEN wins over the desire for survival. You could not erase the desire for survival because that is the most basic of all instincts. But, I think the desire for sensation can be handled -- perhaps not 100%, but you can make progress.I would help you in that progress.Religious orders recognized the truth of this, and tried to solve it in ways that "worked" in a mechanical sense, at least. Priests were forbidden to marry -- forbidden to have sex sensations. Many religious groups have tried to get away from their desire for taste sensation with simple living -- look at the Quakers and Amish for their simple lives. There are actually foods, and life-styles, which decrease sexual desires, and thus reduce the desire for sexual sensation. But, desire for taste sensation is not so easy to eliminate. What we do, instead, is eat foods that are bad for us, but since they are then acting like addictive drugs, we get "withdrawal symptoms" when we try to kick the habit. In order to avoid the withdrawal symptoms we keep eating the bad stuff -- the same applies to street drugs. The druggie can "know" that it's bad for him, but he also knows that he'll go through living hell if he quits. The better alternative, he thinks, is to keep taking the stuff. So, sugar can be viewed as one of the most basic of all health problems on the planet -- not just plain white sugar, but the overwhelming foolishness of "official" diets that put your ideal intake at 60% carbohydrates, and a much-too-low percentage of proteinsNow, take a look at how hard commercial companies try to addict children to sugar. Many of the top cereals in the world have very large amounts of pure sugar. Then, click (or click the image) to see the home page for Kellogg's Cereals. That page is a drug pusher's dream -- entrap the kids into playing games that make them want sugar -- feed them "healthy" cereal that is 53% pure sugar, and there goes civilization. I don't think they are ignorant of the evil they represent! If you would like the history of how sugar got started in the Western world, read here.If you think the artificial sweeteners are better?? click here -- they are not! You've heard it many times: "Sugar contains no nutrition of any kind -- it adds calories, but no food value." Our society is grossly overweight, yet we eat more sugar than most other countries in the world, and far, far more than we did a few hundred years ago.Sugar is the number one health hazard in our society. It's no surprise that the Government subsidizes production of sugar -- spending billions to support an industry that is both harmful to consumers and no longer economical to have within the United States. Sugar growers are a powerful force for evil in our society.I've already mentioned cigarettes, but consider that the government not only subsidizes production of sugar, and promotes its use, but also subsidizes the production of tobacco. Obviously the evils of tobacco are now public, while the evils of sugar are not.Warning Labels For Cigarettes! The above are official warning labels in Canada! I don't know if they convince people to stop smoking, but they certainly portray the truth about one health effect from smoking! Interestingly, there were many other, equally gross, graphics on the web, now all of them have been withdrawn and cannot be found. The Wall Street Journal wrote about them, but you can no longer find these pictures except on THIS page??? Is the tobacco lobby that strong??Do you know any smoker who would willingly carry and show off a pack of cigarettes with that image? The nature of this evil is to visit the eventual wrath of society onto the tobacco farmer, for the sins of his fathers! We have generations of otherwise honest men and women, grown corrupt by the money from selling tobacco, and now not able to see the truth of the evil they bring to the planet. The same is true about sugar growers. To paraphrase Jesus:The tobacco farmer will have as much difficulty getting into heaven as the camel going through the eye of a needle! The government subsidizes tobacco production while at the same time collecting fines and money from the cigarette producers -- who pays? You know! You do. How would YOU feel if you were a tobacco farmer? or a worker in the cigarette factory? You are robbing from your neighbors while you murder them! Sugar plantations are no better, nor the companies producing and selling sugar. And Kellogg's Cereals!Incidentally, the solution is NOT to try to regulate these evil industries, but to raise the awareness of individuals so that they no longer seek such sensations. The desire for sensation would be fine, as a survival instinct, if we could predict the consequences of the substance causing the sensation. Food that is good FOR you should taste good! It doesn't always, but if you had sufficient awareness you would know about the future consequences of some food-based sensation. No diet of any kind should include any processed sugar, nor any foods to which sugar (including fructose, corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, etc.) have been added. This one change, alone, can improve your health very dramatically, yet this change, alone is one of the hardest to make. Sugar is more addictive than cigarettes, caffeine or cocaine -- and more deadly.Yet the government suggests that you can eat the stuff, even if you are a diabetic. If you can't accept this simple truth, there is no need to read further about the true natural diet of man. I didn't say that you feel strong enough to kick the habit -- that takes a lot of determination. But, even many people who can't kick the sugar habit understand, intellectually, that sugar is bad for them. They just acknowledge that they can't break the addiction. Likewise, they could not go onto the diet I recommend here.Click here to go to a summary page of all the research material about sugar, on this web site.Coca Cola!An Addictive Drug!Sodas!A close cousin to pure, processed sugar, certainly is your common, every-day soda! You know, of course, that sodas contain a great deal of sugar. But there are other harmful ingredients too.For instance, even when artificial sweeteners are used (which are usually deadly), there is almost always a large amount of phosphoric acid in the soda. Phosphoric acid provides our society with far more phosphorus than we need and thus our bones become weak because we cannot absorb the calcium from our food -- too much phosphorus being neutralized to too little calcium. Result? No calcium available for the bones and teeth. Click here to read what Adelle Davis has to say on this subject.Early on Coca Cola actually contained cocaine == that's where it got the name. Now the addictive ingredients are sugar, caffeine and sugar substitutes! The filthy origin of Coca Cola is one of those well-known secrets. The sins of its past don't guarantee that the sin continues, but there is so much fresh evidence of the evil of Coca Cola that any person who drinks it is obviously unaware of its history, or its harm!Click here to read a simple and damning description of the health harm done by sodas.Consumption of soft drinks has risen 900% in 55 years. Here are figures showing consumption per kid!Table 1. Consumption of non-diet soft drinks by 12- to 19-year-olds(ounces per day) and percent of caloric intakes (all figures include non-drinkers).YearOunces per day Percent of calories boysgirlsboysgirls1977-7876341987-88127651994-96191298Calculated from U.S. Dept. Agr. Nationwide Food Consumption Survey, 1977-78; Continuing Survey of Food Intakes by Individual, 1987-88, 1994-96. Children start drinking soda pop at a remarkably young age, and consumption increases through young adulthood. One fifth of one- and two-year-old children consume soft drinks.6 Those toddlers drink an average of seven ounces -- nearly one cup -- per day. Toddlers' consumption changed little between the late 1970s and mid 1990s. The above table includes ALL kids in that age group. But, there is a wide disparity among children -- with some drinking zero, and others drinking large quantities. And, if the truth be told, the ones drinking the most are the poor and the minorities -- making them all the more likely to remain at the bottom of the economic pile.Table 2. Consumption of regular and diet soft drinks by 12- to 19-year-olds (excludes non-drinkers).YearOunces per day boysgirls1977-7816151987-8823181994-962821U.S. Dept. Agr. Nationwide Food Consumption Survey, 1977-78; Continuing Surveyof Food Intakes by Individual, 1987-88, 1994-96. For the average 13- to 18-year-old boy or girl drinker, soft drinks provide about 9% of calories. Boys and girls in the 75th percentile of consumption obtained 12% of their calories from soft drinks, and those in the 90th percentile about 18% of their calories. There certainly should be some sort of warning signal here to any responsible parent, and to any teenager who can see further than a few years into the future!Junk FoodsSugar added to foods and sodas are just the beginning of the deadly diet of today's youth -- when you add junk foods you have about ended any chance for health in later years. Not too long ago Zoos would encourage visitors to feed the animals -- until a group of school kids visited one zoo and gave a bunch of spider monkeys snacks from their brown-bag lunches -- brought from home and "loving moms." All the monkeys got deathly sick. Now, all over the country zoos are absolutely strict -- no feeding of the animals by visitors. Why could the kids eat this stuff and the monkeys not?Once a batch of my 15+ grandchildren visited and I had the pleasure of taking them to the store for picnic supplies. I was amazed at what they thought was food. I got so saddened, and inspired, that I recorded a lecture, then wrote an article, the first in my series called The Four Roads To Ruin. If you have read this far, in this long article, my interim reward is that you can write and get a free cassette tape of that lecture -- I think it is great. Many people feel that the "nutritional drinks" like Ensure, etc., are good for seniors. They are just slightly better than pure sugar. Once a person is on the Ensure diet, he is on the way down the tubes. Unfortunately, many of these greedy companies are now marketing these instant drinks to young people -- pushing them further into poor health and away from natural foods. Click here for a story about Ensure and Carnation Instant Breakfast -- all fine sources of processed food -- and sugar. They are, of course, nothing more than junk foods.I don't really expect many youth to read this page, but there are still millions of beer and potato chip adults watching Sunday TV, and cookie and milk moms watching afternoon soap -- dulling their senses enough with TV to be totally ignorant of the dangers of their constant snacks.TelevisionLet me throw it in here. I've mentioned that the solution to your desire for sensation is to be able to see, and predict, the consequences of today's diet. One of the most dulling actions for your awareness is television. TV is a passive inflow of mostly useless information -- from the viewpoint of survival. And, much of the advertising on TV promotes exactly the wrong diet for you. When you couple the dulling effect of TV with the promotion of junk food, you get what we have -- a society on its way down the tubes in terms of health. Click here for a cute, but practical, set of advices on how to reduce the TV addiction rate in your home. All I have to do is mention three items!!! And, you will recognize immediately that most of our entire society has a terrible addiction to TV. These items?Monica OJ Florida Election These three items have consumed America -- Americans glued to their TV sets following the "news" and agonizing about what they can DO nothing about. The correlation between overweight and TV watching is very great! Here are some links on just that:Health experts blame TV for overweight kidsRisks for ill-health in adulthood (excerpt here:)New enticing sedentary activities such as TV, video- and computer games compete with the time children and adolescents could use to exercise. Studies from the USA show that children who spent a lot of time watching TV were often overweight and had poor blood lipid values.Executive Director of TV-Free America (excerpt here:)Today, children spend almost twice as much time watching TV as they do in school, yet numerous studies demonstrate a strong link between the increase in television-watching and the decline in reading and literacy. In conjunction with the 1995 National TV-Turnoff Week, the U.S. Department of Education released a report showing that reading comprehension among young people had reached an all-time low. In his statement, Education Secretary Richard Riley attributed the decline to "too many students...spending too little time reading and too much time watching mind-numbing television." Most educators agree that excessive television-watching: Induces cognitive passivity; Stifles/displaces creativity, reflection and imagination; Displaces opportunities for play and social interaction; Shortens attention spans and increases hyperactivity; Cultivates visual processing skills incompatible with print-based skills. Time spent reading in the U.S. fell by a third between 1965 and 1985. About the worst of the TV fare is news coverage. You must realize that news companies, particularly the 24-hours per day cable news networks, have one primary goal. To report on controversy, even when it doesn't exist -- to create controversy when necessary. You cannot watch the cable news networks without becoming worried about all the dangers facing you and society. These dangers, you will finally realize, are greatly exaggerated and often created out of whole cloth just in order to put you under more stress. This is a control mechanism over society -- to put them into fear and apathy so that those in control can do what they wish. They are virtually succeeding in this goal, and if you want a healthy diet, it should not include cable news TV!I've found, now that I have started on "man's natural diet" that I have less compulsion to watch TV. Like many parts of this diet, if you can reduce TV watching, you'll do better on the diet, and once you start the diet you'll find it is easier to watch less TV. Start with either and work for both!Disease Assurance -- Health InsuranceAnother side issue that is important is so-called health insurance. As long as people don't have to pay for their diet mistakes, because insurance will give them a drug to ease the pain, then there is little motivation to change. Much of society is rigged to reduce your awareness or concern for future consequences. Read an article I've written on this. But, you don't have to agree with all this. Just start your road to health by knocking out sugar, then sodas, then junk foods. With just those changes you will feel better, I guarantee. Want to go further, then read further!Throw potato chips out of your life!Pastas, Cereals, Bread & GrainsPastas, Cereals, Bread & GrainsI am writing, now, about refined foods in the grain family. the picture above certainly looks "healthy" but every bit of that "food" has been heated and processed. There is nothing "natural" about it."Whole grains" are just as dead as "refined flour." The whole grains just have more of the dead remains of the valuable nutrients that are removed early in the refining process. So, yes, whole grains have a better effect on your health than refined grains, but the real comparison should be with sprouted grains and live foods.I happen to believe that live, sprouted beans and sprouted grains are very healthy, but once you take the grain and process it == then cook it into bread, pasta and other refined carbohydrates, you no longer have food -- you have glue! The smell of baking bread has to be one of the most addicting, and appetizing aromas around -- I am not immune to it. Coming back to this point -- I do not suggest that I have somehow erased my desire for sensation. Rather I would say that I have increased my ability to predict consequences. Even at my advanced age (69 at this writing) I can foresee a long and healthy life ahead of me, but ONLY if I apply sense and logic to overcome my desire for sensation.ALL of these foods, grains, pasta, bread, cereal, are converted by the body into sugar. There may be small amounts of protein in some of them (5% to 15% protein in various forms of flour, for instance). But, as soon as that grain has been "processed" there is no life remaining. It is not much different from eating cooked meat -- the protein has been heated and damaged.I've not yet mentioned much about the vast number of people who are allergic to grains, particularly wheat. I, personally, was diagnosed in March 2001 as being allergic to wheat and advised to just stop eating it.I did stop all wheat!I have found a significant improvement in many small health problems after getting off wheat.Since writing this article a couple years ago the popular press is starting to report the dangers of eating grain:But now two American clinicians, James Braly and Ron Hoggan, have published a book, Dangerous Grains, claiming that what was thought to be a relatively rare condition may be more widespread than was previously thought. Braly and Hoggan suggest that gluten intolerance does not just affect a few people with CD, but as much as 2-3% of the population. They claim that gluten sensitivity (GS) is at the root of a proportion of cases of cancer, auto-immune disorders, neurological and psychiatric conditions and liver disease. The implication is that the heavily wheat-based western diet - bread, cereals, pastries, pasta - is actually making millions of people ill. (source)The percentage who can't handle grains is far, far higher. The people behind the scenes are letting you know "gradually." It may take many more years for you to get the full truth.Allergies to dairy and wheat are probably the two most common food allergies. Even without any fancy diagnosis, is is very easy for any consumer to test this -- get off either or both of these foods for about one week -- see if some health problem doesn't go away.I've now written about sugar, soda and grains -- the first two, obviously, have nothing alive in them. There is still a sentimental attractiveness to "whole grain cereal" even if not to white bread. But, no matter how "whole" the grain is, more than 80% of the grain turns into sugar in the body, and if the protein in this processed product is useless to the body, then the whole subject belongs in the Halls of Boondoggle!Fats and OilsFats have gotten a bad rap for many years. The pot is now boiling and the lid is blowing off. On July 7, 2002, the New York Times published an article in the Sunday Magazine, by Gary Taubes. The article destroys much of the government-sponsored fraud about diet. In this article Gary Taubes shows how the low-fat diet has never worked, and that it leads to obesity. This is a wake-up call! Who will heed! Don't miss this one. Linked to that page is another "sea change." The Wall Street Journal came out around the same time with an editorial on the values of the Paleolithic Diet!!!Fats and oils are almost always harmful in their processed forms. And, even when you think you are getting healthy oils such as "cold pressed" oils, they are usually never "cold" pressed. Click here for that story.Margarine is a travesty against honesty. There is a whole story of how we have been duped into believing that margarine is safer than butter. Click here to read that story in my Book.Raw butter would be about the only safe form of fat in your diet -- and, of course, it is basically illegal in most states.Go figure! If you eat raw meat, of course, the fat in that raw meat is quite fine!Toxins in the body are generally stored in the fatty tissues. This is the safe place for them. If a skinny person takes in those toxins, and there is little or no fat where they can be stored, they WILL be stored in organs, bones and flesh. So, the growing obesity of society is actually a survival mechanism -- we have accumulated SO much toxic stuff in our bodies that we NEED the fat to store it safely. This should give warning to someone who thinks it is all so healthy to lose weight, get rid of fat. As you get rid of the fat, the toxins come out into the blood stream. Where do they go?The best approach to THIS subject of toxins in the fat is any of several good detoxification programs -- one of those is by Aajonus Vonderplanitz -- he suggest you eat LOTS of fat -- but it must be raw fat -- so that the new fat coming into your system can absorb some of the toxins coming out of the old fat. This is NOT a method of losing (or gaining) weight -- but a concept of changing the toxin-loaded fat you have, for new fat without toxins -- you would then have a gradual reduction of toxins in the body. The Wall Street Journal in an excellent validating article, July 2002, endorses the diet based on what our ancestors ate -- the same concept as endorsed by Aajonus. The Wall Street Journal has taken on a vital role in America. I now consider it to be THE leading news source in the world. Their readership is extremely high. This means that whatever they publish gets a very wide readership. They have been publishing many articles exposing the harm or evil of drugs and drug companies. But, in June and July 2002 they really laid into the diet and food people. In addition to that article, linked above, don't miss THIS page. There are two articles at the end of that link -- articles about FAT and why it is not the villain that so many "authorities" say it is! From that link you'll see how foolish has been all the noise about obesity in America -- it is measure by a technique that makes anyone a fool for repeating it. In accordance with that formula, fully explained on the link, some of America's most famous athletes movie stars are overweight or obese! Is this important? Not quite. It is vital!Overweight people DO have many health problems, often not realizing that their weight is contributing to these problems. Here is just one -- sleep apnea:Sleep apnea is a serious, potentially life-threatening condition that is far more common than generally understood. First described in 1965, sleep apnea is a breathing disorder characterized by brief interruptions of breathing during sleep. It owes its name to a Greek word, apnea, meaning “want of breath.” There are two types of sleep apnea: central and obstructive. Central sleep apnea, which is less common, occurs when the brain fails to send the appropriate signals to the breathing muscles to initiate respirations. Obstructive sleep apnea is far more common and occurs when air cannot flow into or out of the person’s nose or mouth although efforts to breathe continue. In a given night, the number of involuntary breathing pauses or “apneic events” may be as high as 20 to 60 or more per hour. These breathing pauses are almost always accompanied by snoring between apnea episodes, although not everyone who snores has this condition. Sleep apnea can also be characterized by choking sensations. The frequent interruptions of deep, restorative sleep often leads to excessive daytime sleepiness and may be associated with an early morning headache.Early recognition and treatment of sleep apnea is important because it may be associated with irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke. (source)Using the standard formula for calculating Body Mass Index, or BMI*, several muscular Hollywood hunks and star athletes could be considered overweight or obese, according to weight and height statistics posted on various celebrity and sports Web sites. Click here to read a very discouraging report about genetically engineered foods that you are probably eating even when you get a government approved label that claims the food is FREE of material that have been genetically engineered.Click here to learn how the current political (2001) administration is proposing that irradiated meat be allowed to be used in school lunch programs without notice of the irradiation.I suppose it is impossible to avoid processed, irradiated and genetically engineered foods, but you could realize that the percentage of your food supply in these states is increasing at the same time that health is decreasing. You might, at least, lend a bit of your political interests to these issues -- and spend more time becoming better informed on them.WATER!Generally all of the material above has been my strong urging for you to STOP eating the bad stuff. We have come, now, to an important part of this article on diet. While there is still more bad stuff to learn about, and avoid, we are moving much more into what is the good stuff!Water is an extremely important part of any diet. How much should you drink and what type of water should you drink. The quantity of water I think you should drink may just amaze you -- LOTS OF WATER.Karl Loren's Book:Life Flow One, The Solution For Heart DiseaseWhen I was writing my 400 page book on heart disease, Life Flow One, The Solution For Heart Disease, I included more than 60 pages on the importance of drinking more water. I urge you to jump to that section, right now, and read material you have probably never heard before, about why you should be drinking more water than you are! Click Here to go Chapter 14 of my Book.In the many pages I wrote about the importance of drinking more water, I openly avoided answering the question of "what type of water should I drink?"My answer was that it was far more important to drink MORE water than to worry about what type of water you should drink. Now, however, that I am writing about diet, I am ready to strongly recommend what type of water you should drink.I would think you know by now that you should NOT drink water with chlorine in it! It is hard to believe all the harm done by the government, in the name of help! When the government insists that you MUST have chlorinated drinking water, and you know with certainty that this is deadly, why do you put up with the government's actions?Click here to read one of the many articles about the dangers of drinking chlorinated water. When you get further along in this article, and get into the core of the Aajonus diet, you'll find that I now drink mostly naturally carbonated water with no chlorine or any other chemicals added. Yes, it is expensive, but yes it is good for you.EnzymesYou cannot live without enzymes. You are born with a fixed supply, and you use them up every time you eat heated foods. Every raw, fresh food you eat comes with its own supply of exactly the right enzymes needed to digest THAT food. If you heat that food, or freeze it, you destroy those enzymes, and you have to then call on your body's limited supply of enzymes to digest that food. Here is the startling data that makes THIS diet so different from every other one. Virtually all other diets you will examine include heated, cooked, frozen, processed foods. NONE of those on this diet when you finally get to its complete application in your life. An excellent book about enzymes is HERE.Enzyme Nutrition points out that each one of us is given a limited supply of bodily enzyme energy at birth. This supply, like the energy supply in your new battery, has to last a lifetime. The faster you use up your enzyme supply, the shorter your life. A great deal of our enzyme energy is wasted haphazardly throughout life. The habit of cooking our food and eating it processed with chemicals; and the use of alcohol, drugs, and junk food all draw out tremendous quantities of enzymes from our limited supply. Frequent colds and fevers and exposure to extremes of temperature also deplete the supply. A body in such a weakened, enzyme-deficient stat is a prime target for cancer, obesity, heart disease, or other degenerative problems. A lifetime of such abuse often ends in the tragedy of death at middle age. The digestion of food takes a high priority and forces the body to produce a copious flow of concentrated digestive enzymes when there are no enzymes in our food. All of us loose our ability to produce concentrated digestive enzymes as we grow older. As this happens, we are less able to use the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients in our food, and we lose the ability to produce adequate amounts of all the other enzymes we need. Dr. David G. Williams explains some of the consequences of inadequate enzyme production: "As we age, our digestive system becomes less efficient. This should be obvious when you consider that anywhere from 60 to 75 percent of all hospitalizations are related to problems concerning the digestive system...ulcer and indigestion medications, both prescription and over-the-counter, are among the top sellers of any class of drugs; as we age, our stomach’s ability to produce hydrochloric acid lessens (New England Journal of Medicine 85; 313: 70 - 74); and by age 65, almost 35 percent of us don’t produce any hydrochloric acid at all." Researchers such as Dr. Edward Howell have shown that much of this breakdown in the body’s ability to produce enough enzymes is due to the overproduction of concentrated digestive enzymes over many years. It should be obvious from all this that our bodies were made to eat far more raw food than we currently eat. The body has only a limited capacity to make enzymes, and this overproduction of digestive enzymes over many years is directly responsible for the body’s loss of all the other enzymes. By squandering our enzyme-making capacity on digestive enzymes, the production and activity of all the other enzymes needed in our body is reduced. This is one reason why enzymes are depleted from our cells as we age. As enzyme activity is diminished in the cells, there is an acceleration of the aging process caused by free radical damage and other things that make us increasingly susceptible to disease. When we get enzymes from our food, it spares our body from having to make such concentrated digestive enzymes. This sparing effect increases the activity of all the other enzymes in our body. Eating enzyme-rich foods such as sprouts allows our body to maximize its production of non-digestive enzymes, and that helps us produce an adequate level of enzymes all our life. And the higher the level of enzyme activity, the healthier and biologically younger we are going to be. Since aging is, to a large extent, caused by enzyme depletion, slowing the aging process might be a matter of eating lots of enzyme-rich food every day along with an adequate intake of vitamins and minerals. Sprouted seeds, grains, and legumes are the most powerful enzyme-rich foods that exist. [source]The best answer to that poses, first, the question: "What would man's natural diet consist of?"And answers by looking, first at how "man" has evolved during his time on this planet.Five years ago this was on my mind as I wrote my Book, Life Flow One, The Solution For Heart Disease:Someone, some day, will realize that man's body has not changed significantly over the last hundred thousand years. Someone will ask the question, what is man's natural diet? What did he eat 10,000 years ago? What does man need from the sources nature has provided, rather than what the chemical companies have provided, that will restore his health and vitality? [source]Today I am researching and answering the question I posed five years ago!The Body we each inhabit may look far different from the bodies of 5,000,000 years ago, but internally we still have very much the same plumbing. Virtually all the organs, and all their functions, have remained unchanged. Perhaps all of man was, at one time one color? I don't know, but the change of race did NOT change the plumbing. Here is a quote:Before the advent of agriculture about 10,000 years ago, all people were hunter-gatherers; they gathered various fruits and vegetables to eat and they hunted animals for their meat. Of course, the ratio of meat and vegetables varied with geographic location, climate and season. Until they began cultivating grains and livestock, people rarely, if ever, ate grains or drank animal's milk. With the spread of agriculture, people shifted from nomadic groups to relatively stable and larger societies to tend the fields. Culture and knowledge flourished. People also began consuming large amounts of grain, milk and domesticated meat. When communities became more localized, humans became more sedentary as well. Then, with the industrial revolution of the 18th century, the human diet changed even more dramatically. Beginning around 1900, whole grains were routinely refined, removing much of their nutritional value, and refined sugar became commonplace. Reflecting on the changes in 1939, nutritionist Jean Bogert noted, "The machine age has had the effect of forcing upon the peoples of the industrial nations (especially the United States) the most gigantic human feeding experiment ever attempted."4Bogert was also disturbed by the growing use of refined grains and sugar and the preference for processed foods over fresh fruits and vegetables. During the past 40 years, the growth of fast-food restaurants has altered the average diet more dramatically than Bogert could have imagined. People now rely even more on processed rather than fresh foods. In fact, the many dietary changes during the past 10,000 years have outpaced our ability to genetically adapt to them, according to Eaton. "That the vast majority of our genes are ancient in origin means that nearly all of our biochemistry and physiology are fine-tuned to conditions of life that existed before 10,000 years ago," he says.5 Looked at in another way, 100,000 generations of people were hunter-gatherers, 500 generations have depended on agriculture, only 10 generations have lived since the start of the industrial age, and only two generations have grown up with highly processed fast foods."The problem is that our genes don't know it," Eaton points out. "They are programming us today in much the same way they have been programming humans for at least 40,000 years. Genetically, our bodies now are virtually the same as they were then."6The Paleolithic DietBy working with anthropologists, Eaton has created what many experts consider a clear picture of our prehistoric diet and lifestyle. Today's panoply of diets--from fast-food burgers to various concepts of balanced diets and food groups--bears little resemblance, superficially or in actual nutritional constituents, to the diet earliest H. sapiens and their descendants consumed over millions of years. For example, vitamin intake is lower today, and the dietary fatty acid profile is substantially different from our evolutionary diet. In other words, our diet today fails to provide the biochemical and molecular requirements of H. sapiens.7Here's how the major dietary constituents stack up past and present.Carbohydrates: Early humans obtained about half of their calories from carbohydrates, but these carbohydrates were rarely grains. Most carbohydrates came from vegetables and fruit."Current carbohydrates often take the form of sugars and sweeteners. ... Products of this sort, together with items made from highly refined grain flours, constitute empty calories ... devoid of accompanying essential amino and fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and possibly phytochemicals," Eaton says.8Fruits, vegetables and fiber: Over the course of one year, hunter-gatherers typically consumed more than 100 different species of fruits and vegetables. Today, fewer than 9 percent of Americans eat the recommended five daily servings of fruits and vegetables, according to Gladys Block, Ph.D., a nutritional epidemiologist at the University of California, Berkeley. Even people who regularly do eat fruits and vegetables generally limit themselves to a handful of different foods, she says.9 The fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds of H. sapiens provided more than 100 g of fiber daily, far above the typical recommendation of 20 g to 30 g, and even farther above what the average American actually eats. Additionally, Eaton says, "The fiber in preagricultural diets came almost exclusively from fruits, roots, legumes, nuts and other naturally occurring noncereal plant sources, so it was less associated with phytic acid than is fiber from cereal grains [phytic acid interferes with mineral absorption]."Protein and fat: Early humans consumed about 30 percent protein, although consumption varied with the season and geographic location. Current dietary recommendations suggest much less protein--about 12 percent to 15 percent of total caloric intake. Much of this protein came from what people now call "game meat"--undomesticated animals such as deer and bison.10 [source]Click here for an excellent reference to literally thousands of pages, different web sites, about the Paleolithic diet. Here is the experience of another person:He cut out everything from his diet that research showed hunter-gatherers didn't eat, such as flour, grains, milk, butter, sugar and oils. Anything processed, such as luncheon meat, or anything fermented, like vinegar, wine, and beer, were off-limits. Research shows hunter-gatherers didn't eat starches like potatoes, corn, and most beans -- probably because they can't be digested raw -- so Audette cut those out, too.Audette expected some positive results, but nothing like he got. Testing his blood at home with a kit from the pharmacy, Audette says that within a week of starting his diet his blood sugar levels were normal, indicating the diabetes had ceased. As he stayed with meats and off grains, Audette's blood levels stayed constant, no matter when he tested himself, he says. Within a month, the arthritis that had plagued him for 12 years was gone too, he claims.Although he was never overweight, the six-foot Audette went from about 165 to 145 pounds. The fat seemed to dissolve from his body while muscle tone improved. "All of a sudden it seemed as if I was growing muscle," he says. His concentration and energy level improved; his hair, which had been rapidly thinning, stopped falling out."It was such a dramatic change," he says. "It wasn't just a change from what I had been a few months before, it was a change from what I had been my whole life." [source]There is a great deal to be said of understanding and returning to man's natural diet -- man has not really changed as his diet has! Man's natural diet is a raw food diet. Interestingly, if you enter the search phrase "raw food diet" on any of the popular search engines you WILL not get pages referencing THIS diet. You will get pages relative to raw food for dogs and you will get many pages relative to raw vegetable diets. This is a "raw meat" diet (combined with raw vegetables, etc.) So, information on this type of diet is almost completely unknown on the Internet.I have more information about the "raw food diet for humans, including raw meat" than all other pages on the web combined at the time of my original writing. Taking into account the tremendous social aversion to eating raw meat, I will probably have more information on this subject than all other web sites, combined, for many years. This has NOT been a popular subject, yet I am urging you to read this material with an open mind -- because on the other side of this, when you start on this diet, you'll find health and vitality that you could never have suspected might exist. The raw food diet will probably need to be introduced on a gradient scale. My own wife couldn't imagine joining me in this! So, I have started this article by condemning sugar. Sugar is a "dead" food -- there is no life, no vitality. Of course sugar cane, in its "raw" form might well be useful, but your refined white sugar, like all refined "foods" has no life left! So, if you are interested in this raw food diet, then I suggest that you start with a willingness to banish white sugar from your life forever. If you cannot do that, you probably won't be interested in eating raw hamburger.Next, this nation drinks tons of soda every year. Even though a ban on white sugar would seem, automatically, to include never drinking sodas again, there are many who don't even realize how much sugar and other sweeteners are contained in Coca Cola and all the rest of them.Any diet that is sensible could surely not include any sodas -- at any time.It is a terrible example of child abuse for a parent to allow his child to have a Coke! You will see it all around you, and when you fully understand and adopt this raw food diet, you will have to learn a whole new level of "gracious understanding" of friends and family who are feeding drugs to their children. You'll have to learn that you must see these things and yet say nothing! You may, yourself, take on the ways of natural health, but you will find, very quickly, that you cannot impose your thinking on many others. So, probably the most important thing I could tell you about the raw food diet is that it is not for everyone. It is perfect for the person who is ready to open his mind to facts and logic. You'll find that the great majority of people are NOT in this category. The Primal DietBy Aajonus VonderplanitzThe final recommendation I want to make on diet is to suggest you become very familiar with Aajonus Vonderplanitz -- the author of the Book, We Want To Live. The first five chapters of that book are on this web site. Click here to start. Here is an article written by Aajonus -- consider it for its purity of logic and common sense.Let us consider a rational analogy. We build a city (our body) from poor and poisonous materials. The city-dwellers, animals and plants (our cells and microbes) are variously affected. They overproduce waste because they are too weak and lack the resources to maintain a self-sustainable environment. Waste accumulates in the homes, buildings, streets, fields, forests and skies, deteriorating structures and life. We become aware that we built a polluted and rapidly deteriorating, diseased city. How much time does it take to reorganize, renovate, demolish structures, load, transport and bury waste, neutralize poisonous matter, search for and gather nutrients, negotiate, design and restructure or completely rebuild just one building? Consider the Twin Towers; how long will it have taken people to disassemble those buildings, load and haul the debris and waste, redesign and restructure? How long would roads be blocked and/or over-congested? Ten to fifteen years? What degree of inconvenience, pollution and pain will people have to suffer? If people had to completely rebuild New York City, how long would it take? Two hundred years? Our bodies don’t normally sustain a complete instant collapse of its organs, glands or systems as New York City did with the Twin Towers. The body has to take itself apart bit by bit. Bacteria, virus, molds and parasites can help speed the process by consuming the weak or dead cells and degenerative tissue, reducing them to lesser wastes but still the detoxification process is slow with many ill symptoms. As far as my observation of the progression of at least 5,000 people on mainly a raw diet, and according the work of Pottenger and Howell, the human body takes at least 40 years to rebuild itself 5 times to reach optimal health. When ill symptoms result, it is an indication of detoxification that is beneficial to the cleansing and healing processes. Some symptoms are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, swelling (bloating), failed appetite, sleeplessness, aches and pains, lethargy, impotence, weight-loss, colds, flu, fever, and even immobility. Swelling occurs during periods when massive toxins inundate the blood, or toxins are discharged from the lymph through skin, and/or increased circulation to increase solvents and nutrients to a toxic or accident-injured area. Parasites afford us the quickest process of organic detoxification. Parasites can only be a problem if an individual does not readily regenerate cells and replace the tissue consumed by parasites. In such a problem situation, ulcers could result and fester. However, consumption of raw meats prevents ulceration by providing the nutrients necessary for quick regeneration, resulting in the fact that parasites are tremendously beneficial. If an individual eats foods or chemicals that cause destruction and decay, that is degenerative tissue, she or he is susceptible to parasites and bacterial detoxifications. If he or she eliminates destructive foods, such as cooked food, chemicals and pollution, he or she will prevent adding to the problems that make parasites and microbial detoxifications necessary. We must acknowledge that some people who eat cooked food appear and feel healthy because they utilize cooked food better than most people. Many people, especially our youth, who eat cooked food progressively deteriorate but do not realize it because they have great energy produced by overactive glands. This means they have an over-abundance of hormones. Those hormones are often utilized to replace destroyed nutrients in cooked food, to stimulate their energy levels, and stop ill-symptoms but without eliminating disease. Many of those people’s glands become too toxic and/or hardened later in life, and/or become fatigued. Most often they do not realize their diseased states until it is too late to reverse ill-conditions easily. At that late stage, their glands don’t produce enough hormones to carry on normal bodily functions much less utilize hormones as replacements for destroyed nutrients. The fact that symptoms often stop for periods when eating partially cooked diets does not indicate that the person is moving toward optimal health. It often simply means that the body uses its available nutrients and energy leeching and replacing nutrients and detoxifying the toxins created by the cooked portion of the diet in the digestive tract and blood. It is often true that there are not enough nutrients and energy left to detoxify toxins stored in the tissues from early ill life-styles. We must measure which is the greater risk. Is it riskier to eat raw food, get healthier and chance detoxification-symptoms? Or is it riskier to eat cooked and processed food, develop deficiencies, collect toxicity including chemicals, and develop disease and still experience some or a lot of detoxification and disease? Because we are constantly in accelerated detoxification, due to our toxic life-styles, resulting in our ill-conditions, our blood tends to be too acidic in waste compounds. This acidic condition of the blood often causes compulsive cravings, sometimes for too much fruit and cooked starches, lethargy, irritability, repulsion toward acidic foods such as meats, and anorexia. Drinking green vegetable juices 2-4 times a day, but not in combination with other food, helps to neutralize the acid compounds in the blood without alkalinizing the intestines, and most often eliminates the over-acidic symptoms. Drinking green vegetable juice daily ensures that enzymes, vitamins and minerals lost because of deficient soils, lost from field to dinner-plate, and leeched from our bodies from years of eating cooked foods are replaced. I experienced that neurological detoxifications usually interfere with sleep between 12:30 – 5:30 a.m. If a person experiencing insomnia expects to acquire restful sleep, especially during those hours, she or he will be disappointed, frustrated and experience more fatigue and many other symptoms. Often neurological detoxifications involve concentrations of free-radicals, including mercury. When you get to this viewpoint, you'll find that the great majority of people are rushing to their doom in a sugar-coated ecstasy. It is said that black people cannot tolerate milk lactose as well as white people? That is probably true, but that is a minor change compared to the consistency of the internal plumbing. Is it possible that there is a basic diet that works with this set of plumbing, and that we could then look for small variations in that diet for different groups of people? I think so.All bodies, regardless of race or other difference, need protein as the basic building block of the body. The bones, the organs, the tissues, the skin -- all of this is built from the proteins we eat. Without proteins we cannot build a body. The other food types? Carbohydrates and Fats -- possibly fiber if you count that. I'll come back to this, later. You may have noticed that my diet, so far, is just telling you what to eliminate from what you might now be eating.I am not through with that process yet!Do you still drink milk?Man Is The Only Species That Drinks The Milk Of Another Species!Well, by now you are probably saying, "This guy is crazy! Not only am I supposed to give up sugar, and all the good things of life, but even quit drinking milk?"Yes!Unless!Unless you drink natural milk!If you did want to drink milk, then you surely ought not drink milk that has been chemically altered so that it is no longer safe for your body. Milk is so poor in usable calcium that the chemists have added stuff to try to convince you that milk is a good source of usable calcium -- it is not. And, in the United States today, there are only a very few places where you can buy milk in the form which nature created it -- raw. I call it "natural milk," and the other stuff "processed milk." I have a very extensive section explaining the harm you can do to yourself drinking processed milk -- and in today's world, "natural milk" is one of the best foods you can get -- despite my comment about it being for baby cows. When the scare-doctors get through with you, you truly believe that raw milk is dangerous because of all those deadly bacteria. That fear will start to kick in more and more as you read this article. I'll deal with the "dangers of bacteria" extensively below, but for now list's just say that there are, indeed, people who want your health to suffer. These people have infiltrated our "best" universities and government agencies -- where they have the greatest influence on the foods we can buy. They have passed laws making it illegal to sell raw milk. Instead, they say, milk must be pasteurized to kill the bacteria. Pasteurization (named after Louis Pasteur -- the discoverer of bacteria) simply heats the milk to about 165 degrees Fahrenheit for about 20 seconds. Click here for a diagram of the pasteurization machine and a technical explanation of how it is done. Click here for the most famous researcher and writer on the subject of the dangers of pasteurizing milk.Mother's Milk? It's great for you, and of course it is never pasteurized.'Mother's milk contains a higher portion of cholesterol than almost any other food. It also contains over 50% of its calories as fat, much of it saturated fat. Both cholesterol and saturated fat are essential for growth in babies and children, especially development of the brain.* Yet, the American Heart Association is now recommending a low-cholesterol, low-fat diet for children!'. Sally Fallon, Nourishing Traditions 1995 Promotion Publishing*Reference:Alfin-Slater, RB and L Aftergood, 'Lipids', Modern Nutrition in Health and Disease, Chapter 5, 6th ed, RS Goodhart and ME Shils, eds, Lea and Febiger, Philadelphia 1980, p. 31 So, don't drink pasteurized milk. How about homogenization? Well, it's another health problem. That story was one of the first I ever used, personally, as I lectured about heart disease. If you have my cassette tape on oral chelation, you have heard me say that "homogenized milk is one of the primary causes of heart disease!"That subject is fully covered in my Book, Life Flow One, The Solution For Heart Disease. You can click here to go to the Chapter in my Book where this is explained in scientific detail.Don't drink homogenized milk!Wow! What can you eat? Well, I'm not through yet!Goat milk is easier to digest than cow's milk, but you might as well just quit drinking milk unless you get it raw -- not pasteurized and not homogenized.Soy Milk? Well, has it been heated? I suspect so!Water is really quite a very fine drink, thank you!Fruits? Sorry!Well, I can tell you that EVERY type of squeezed juice must NOT be on your diet. You can safely EAT an orange, or any fruit, raw, organic, etc., but as soon as that fruit is sold as a juice, it is pasteurized, the enzymes are destroyed and you are drinking almost solid sugar!Any and every method of "processing" a fruit with any form of heat will destroy the enzymes. Soon, below, you will get into the subject of enzymes. The body needs enzymes to digest food. All foods, in their natural (raw) state, come with exactly the right enzymes for their digestion. All enzymes are destroyed by cooking. The body has a limited supply of enzymes it can use when none are available with the food, but as you get older that reserve of body-supplied enzymes gets reduced and you get less and less nutritional value out of anything you eat.Fresh (raw) fruit is an excellent item to include in your diet and when you are finally ON the diet I recommend, you'll find plenty of opportunity to eat fresh fruit -- but nothing ever heated or processed. Nothing in a can will contain the vital enzymes you need to digest food.Man is slowly killing himself with cooked and processed foods! They were NOT on his diet just several thousand years ago, and man's plumbing has not changed. There is no question, in a physical science sense, that carbohydrates or fats cannot be converted in the body, in any way, to build body structure. Our American society is bombarded with "advice" on a diet that is terribly low in protein. It is not just a mistake -- it is criminal!Working Moms Mean Mediocre MealsFast Food stores and working moms are the doom of good diet in America.Healthy People In HistoryScientists have wondered about diet and health, and one of their wonderings has been to investigate primitive groups of people -- people isolated from "modern" society to see what their health was and what their diet was.Dr. Krebs is a good reporter on this, click here, in an article entitled The Nature Of Cancer -- By Ernst Krebs. The role of carbohydrates and fats? I won't touch on that just yet, but let's understand that man, for millions of years, has had to have protein in his diet -- regardless of any difference among groups. Now a relatively unknown datum: The body can convert proteins into sugar. Normally we think of carbohydrates as the source of energy for the body -- and energy is ONLY sugar in this sense. Thus, ALL carbohydrates, of any type or kind, are converted into one single substance inside the body -- glucose -- a simple sugar. We think of glucose as extremely valuable because it is the source of all the energy used by the body. You couldn't live without glucose. But, if, indeed, protein can be converted into glucose inside the body, then it is possible we could live without carbohydrates. That would be a controversial subject for many! While it may be an emotional concern of many, the scientific fact is that we COULD get all the glucose we need, naturally, because of the body's ability to convert protein into glucose.Fat is a bit more complex. There are components within fat that are NOT contained in either protein or carbohydrates -- and the body seems to need those components. These are, for instance, the fatty acids and the body cannot make these fatty acids from either proteins or carbohydrates. So, we can conclude, in very gross terms, that the natural body of man needs proteins and fats, but could get by without carbohydrates. How about minerals and vitamins, you say? That is a complexity I'll take up later. For now, I want to zero in on the simplicity of man's natural diet, based on a look at his diet over the millions of years, and based on the simple body chemistry we understand:Proteins and Fats are essential to life Carbohydrates are not essential to life The above should certainly not serve as the final word on body chemistry, but it will do for a start. Now, let me ask you to look at ways in which "man" has changed dramatically.I claim that his body has changed but little! But, man's thinking, man's behavior, man's social patterns, man's understanding -- all of these have changed dramatically.Among all these many changes we could certainly agree that man's eating patterns have changed drastically. The caveman did not have a microwave nor a box of Oat Meal in his cave!MORE HERE'A very high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet has been shown to have astounding effects in helping type 2 diabetics lose weight and improve their blood lipid profiles. . The thing many diabetics coming into the office [The Dr. Robert Atkins Office] don' t realize is that other forms of carbohydrates will increase their sugar, too. Dieticians will point toward complex carbohydrates & oatmeal and whole wheat bread, but we have to deliver the message that these are carbohydrates that increase blood sugars, too.'* * Reference:'These results suggest that a high protein, low-carbohydrate diet, with nutritional supplementation can be useful to reduce several cardiovascular risk factors in obese adult onset diabetic patients including weight, blood sugar and lipid parameters. There is also no evidence that the nutritional regimen adversely affects kidney function.'**Reference: Edman, JS et al. Journal of the American College of Nutrition, to be published in October 1998. [Click Here for Source on this web]Dr. Atkins is getting closer and closer to the truth. He finally started to promote the "caveman" diet, but just doesn't tell the truth about what it was. That story is here.Cavemen—and that includes you—are well adapted to a diet of meat, fish, fowl, nuts, seeds, vegetables and fruits. After all, for several million years our forbears—the folks that we always see pictured clad in furry hides—adjusted their physiologies with evolutionary precision to the food niche that lay before them. Microanalysis of fossil teeth shows that our ancestors were eating meat 2.5 million years ago. Pasta, bread, rice, doughnuts, and tacos weren't on the menu. Our ancestors survived the hardships of their lives without houses, without heat and without modern medicines because they ate good food—nature's bounty, not the overprocessed, nutrient-deficient stuff that populates the endless aisles of the supermarket. (Source)Again, what Dr. Atkins omits, a fatal flaw, is that these people were eating raw food -- fire was only "discovered" a few hundred thousand years ago. The Caveman diet is a raw meat diet -- with as much fat as they found in the meat and a very, very few berries or the odd root food. Raw is the big difference between Atkins and Karl Loren.Dr. Atkins seems to be the pioneer on the low-carbohydrate diet, but more than 200 years ago Dr. Banting wrote very similar comments about diet:'We should stop offering ineffective treatments aimed at weight loss. Researchers who think they have invented a better mousetrap should test it in controlled research before setting out their bait for the entire population. Only by admitting that our treatments do not work – and showing that we mean it by refraining from offering them – can we begin to undo a century of recruiting fat people for failure.' (Source)Drink lots more water than you are, of course.Next, read, understand and follow the low-carbohydrate diet -- the Atkins Diet is a good, not best, one -- described in this web site, but also in millions of homes where his book is found. It is not perfect and it is NOT a caveman diet, but it is one way to start. Then, if you really want health, start toward the diet that nourished man for millions of years, before some fateful and terrible events occurred on planet Earth:Man discovered fire and decided that meat tasted better when it was cooked. This was a triumph of sensation over sense. Man decided to stop wandering and settled down on a farm -- where he grew grain and domesticated his animals. We got corn and milk -- bad choices for a man who was designed to be active, not sedentary. The white man of Europe raped the Americas, stealing the land and bringing slaves to run the plantations, but the Indians got their revenge by introducing sugar to Europe, and the world has been sicker ever since. The advent of modern disease coincides with the increasing preference for simple sugar and refined foods. We have abandoned any pretense for "health care" and substituted "modern medicine" and its drug orientation. Man has also abandoned his spiritual heritage -- thinking, now, that the physical is senior to the spiritual, and finding even ministers turning to the false technology of psychology for their counseling of their parishioners -- the truth is hard to find in all this but I am neither modest nor bashful, and suggest that you find the truth of diet here! The links below include material full of lies, and other material worthy of your regard. You can spend a great deal of time researching these references -- they present the gamut of much of the thinking about diet relative to diabetes today -- from the lies of the American Diabetes Association (that it's OK to eat sugar) to both endorsements and attacks on the "high protein diet" of my friend Dr. Robert Atkins, and, finally, the ultimate in good diet, by Aajonus Vonderplanitz!Am I on this diet? Yes! Click if you wish to read my personal diary about my progress.Detoxification! At the advanced age when I started my research and study on diet I tumbled onto Aajonus Vonderplanitz. His material is a must-read for you. The very best detoxification program is HERE -- with more than 200 pages describing the use of a sauna, sweating and niacin -- plus much more.I will be writing much more in this section, but want to urge you to jump to THIS LINK where I explain one of the new wonders of science -- the detoxification of the body caused by the cessation of eating processed and cooked foods, and eating raw foods only. This detoxification is something only a few hundred people on the planet have yet experienced, although hundreds of years ago virtually everyone went through this type of detox, daily, without even noticing.Fascinating stuff!
