State Education Secretary May Step Down Monday April 05, 2004 8:24pmHarrisburg (AP) - The State Secretary of Education is looking for a new job. Vicki Phillips is being considered for a superintendent position in Portland, Oregon. If chosen, Governor Rendell says he expects Phillips to resign. Phillips was superintendent at the Lancaster City school district before going to work for the Rendell administration. Phillips says that while there is substantial work to be done for Pennsylvania's schools, she feels she can have a more direct effect on student learning in a district. Phillips helped the Rendell administration develop a 175 million dollar initiative to boost early childhood education.
