Guest guest
I got to close to my wood stove & my nightgown caught on fire. I have first & second degree burns on my thigh & a small second degree burn on my stomach. I didn't receive medical attention, because I don't have insurance. I know goldenseal will work as an antibiotic to keep it from getting infected, but the lady at the herbal store said Oregon grape root should work as well, it also costs about 1/10 that goldenseal does. Does anyone know? Do I have to use more, or will it work the same as goldenseal. Thank You P.S. If you read this Becky, don't mention my accident to my mother, I don't want to worry her. Guest guest
Adele Davis writes about burns in her book: Let's have healthy children: quote: "putting vitamin E or Vitamin E ointment directly on first- and second-degree burns, pain had disappeared within minutes; and when the vitamin was taken by mouth as well as being applied to the surface, normal tissue soon covered the area and no disfiguring scars formed... I myself have seen extremely severe burns heal without a scar when vitamin E capsules have been pierced with a needle and the contents squeezed over the burned surface several times daily. Vitamin C can be equally effective. .. a solution by liquefying or dissolving 50 tables of vitamin C, 500mg each, in 1 quart of water. This solution can be sprayed on the burned surface or used to moisten cloths which are placed on the burn. This solution is not to be swallowed by mouth... the pain disappears so rapidly that persons with extremely severe burns do not need pain-killing drugs, and that if 10-15g of vit C are simultaneously taken by mouth, such burns heal rapidly without scarring. An ointment containing the B vitamin PABA has been used successfully both for preventing sunburn and for taking the pain out of severe sunburn. It also appears to take the pain out of any other types of burn." end quote. I personally have never tried the Vit C one, but always use vit E on any burns to my body. It really is like magic! For you parents out there, Adele also writes the following: "I personally feel that vitamin-C solution should be kept on hand as long as there are small children in the family; and an inexpensive spray bottle could be purchased and stored for just such an emergency with the crushed pills lying in the bottom. When an emergency arises, just add water, shake, and use. (adding water when bottles are stored results in an unstable solution that would probably be of little value)." love, Lisa - johnanddorothea <johnanddorothea herbal remedies Tuesday, January 14, 2003 4:14 AM [herbal remedies] Second degree burns I got to close to my wood stove & my nightgown caught on fire. Guest guest
I burned once my leg with hot coffee. It was very bad. The main thing is not to put water or ice on the burns. I know this is the first thing that medicos recommend but my mother thought me that it is so wrong. If you don't put cold water or ice blisters are not going to appear and you don't need to peel your skin. My leg from the knee all way down was burned. I put sour cream over and ground coffee. I used maybe three packs of sour cream for that afternoon. I did not clean the previous layer. On each new layer of sour cream I would put layer of ground coffee. I did that for one week. First time when I felt that is no more pain or burning I washed and applied St. John's worth oil. Now there is no sign of the burning. But my mother always used St. John's worth oil for burns and against scars after burns. It was always successful. Jasmina
Guest guest
I also have found Vit E works dramatically with aiding the skin to heal and preventing scarring. I was amazed at how dramatic it was. I had recently had three wounds from a mishap with some train tracks. I used Vit E on the worst wound which was on my face. It is now 2 months later and it completely healed. The two leg wounds that were not as severe were treated only with aloe. They are still present although the face wound was significanly worse inititially. I also used green tea leafs directly on the wound for debriedment once a day. It really helped and I have read that it has often been successful for other people for skin issues. Guest guest
Quite the contrary. Essential oil of Lavender is very good for burns and preventing infection. It does, in fact, reduce the pain and help heal without the scars. Guest guest
Hi Paul, This is only my opinion, so please take it with a grain of salt. Holistic healing is about sharing ones knowledge with others. Helping others to become more knowledgeable so they can better their own lives or help others to better theirs. Secrets are for the mega-pharma conglomerates. If you wish to not share your knowledge with others on this list that is your choice. My opinion is if someone wants to teach me a remedz but then tells me I cannot teach it to others then I don't need it or want it. The majority of us on this list freely share Rx's with one another up to and including Doc. Just my two cents worth. Guest guest
Dear Dorothea, When it comes to burns, regardless of whether they are 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th Degree, there is no natural remedy like ALOE VERA. It will not only heal the area, but will also sterilize it and keep the infections at bay and prevent scarring. The best is fresh right from the plant, but don't let that stop you if you don't have a plant handy. Get some high quality Aloe from your local health food store to start off with while locating some fresh elsewhere. You would also want to take some DMSO (USP Pharmaceutical Grade only) & MSM internally as these sulphur compounds are specific for skin rejuvenation. DMSO will realign the DNA in the area back to the original blueprint so that you can avoid any scarring whatsoever. Taking 8 to 12 cloves of garlic for a few days will also ensure no infection gets a chance to get a foothold. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Our littlest one pulled a pan of hot (not quite boiling but REAL hot) water off of the stove onto himself. (Thus teaching older brothers WHY Mama said always use the back burner...hard lesson all around. ) He had burns down the edge of his neck, side and chest and upper leg in various degrees. I pulled his shirt off immediately, and patted him dry, and applied homeopathic calendula gel on all the surfaces, giving him homeopathic Arnica orally. Called Daddy to take us to the doctor, and called the doctor to let them know we were coming. (It's a wonder I could think at all.) It took my husband 20 minutes to get home and us another 30 to get to the pediatricians office. I continued to apply the calendula gel and give Arnica orally every 15 minutes and by the time we got there, he only had one teeny 1/2 inch spot shaped like a teardrop left on his chest and another under his arm. She (Naturally), gave us a prescription for some stuff, which I didn't have filled, but instead started using vit E oil, and in 24 hours you couldn't tell. Good luck, Rowan
