Guest guest
Hi All, I've picked up a mean head and chest cold that I want to get rid of pronto... particularly the chest part as, in the past, I've had a tendency to get bronchitis. Anyway, I know that lobelia is a good expectorant and though I've got some here in its powdered form, unfortunately, I haven't gotten around to tincturing it yet. So, I'm looking for advice on lobelia dosage either in its powdered form, in capsules, or in a tea. I know that lobelia can make a person quite ill if too much is taken so I'm waiting on it until I get some sound advice! Thanks in advance, Ann
Guest guest
Hi Ann….In my experience with Lobelia, you may want to start with a smaller dose and work yourself up as you tolerate it. Two a day was enough for me. I tried taking one more and I ended up vomiting the rest of the night. It tends to repeat on ya, lol. It tastes rather unpleasant in my opinion, so for me, the tincture would be out of the question…easier to just pop a capsule, lol. I usually take it powdered in capsules, one in the morning and one in the evening. I’ve found it to be invaluable for my asthma, I’m sure it will help with your bronchitis. You may also want to try Echinachea (sp?), zinc and vitamin c. Hope you feel better soon. Guest guest
Thank you so much, Kim. I did like you suggested and took one capsule of the lobelia. So far I haven't gotten sick to my stomach so I'm sure I didn't take too much and if the amount of (sorry, folks) disgusting green phlegm I've been hacking up is any indication I guess it's doing its job. Guest guest
Dear Ann, I may step on a few toes here ;o) but I don't like to wuss around too much with capsules as they take longer to get into the system. I only have one formula that I put into capsules, and that is my Intestinal Cleanse #1 formula (in the files). The reason for this is the "hotness" of the Habanero Cayenne used, and because I want it to work in the intestines, so an instant reaction or result is not what is expected. I once tried putting my Intestinal Cleanse #2 and my Total Nutrition into capsules, and they just didn't work as well. Ohhh, they still worked, but in these formulae, I'm looking for quicker absorbtion and faster results ;o) In almost any other remedy or formula preparation, I prefer using "teas" or "tinctures". Now there may be exceptions to this depending on the circumstances, but I'd have to say the above is 97% the way I operate. As far as your Lobelia is concerned, I'd take the powder out of the capsules and make a tea out of it. This would make it way more effective and make it work very quickly. And if that tea doesn't make the back of your throat itch and get scratchy, throw the stuff out as it isn't good Lobelia. Top quality Lobelia will make the back of your throat very scratchy. Guest guest
Hiya Doc, I was actually curious about all this. Now, when you say that you would take the lobelia out of the capsules to make a tea out of, do you mean you would put it into a teabag? Or would you just mix the powder with hot water and gulp it down. Would you then use more than one capsule? I’m not sure if the dosage would change. I was just planning on taking a lobelia capsule right now, but now I don’t know what to do, lol. The lobelia I have was not bought fresh and ground by me, I bought the ‘ready made’ kind for now, so after that I plan on trying to get some fresh herb. BTW, how does that tea taste anyway, lol. I’m a huge baby when it comes to taste. For some reason I don’t think that any amount of sweetner would make it taste better!! Even when I take a capsule, I take it with ENORMOUS amounts of water and the taste STILL repeats itself on me. One time I made the awful mistake of taking one BEFORE I went out for a few drinks with my friends. I’m sure you know what a big mistake that was, ROFL. I had a few sips of beer….I RAN to the bathroom and began getting vomiting. I ended up having to leave and continued getting sick througout the night. Oh it was awful. That’s one mistake I’ll never make twice!! No - just put the powder from the capsule directly into your tea pot and make as an infusion. Would you then use more than one capsule? I’m not sure if the dosage would change.
