2 Questions - flax oil and PMS symptoms

I am a lurker who has been around for a month or so. I have learned

so much from reading and I am looking for advice. I searched the

archives and didn't have much luck finding answers to my questions.

1. I have been taking flax oil capsules and decided to try the flax

oil. I hate the taste of it. Is there anyone on the list that uses

it? How do you take it? The bottle I purchased has a recipe for a

fruit smoothie but those take too long to prepare. Any ideas for

something quick and easy?

2. A little history first. When I was in college I started using

depo provera (the birth control shot) and thought it was the greatest

thing. Now I am married and planning to start trying to conceive in

the spring. I went off the shot over a year ago and finally had my

first period in October. It was preceeded by about three weeks of

PMS symptoms - headaches, bloating, breast tenderness, irritablity,

etc. I am starting the cycle again and I am not sure I can stand

another three weeks of it. I am currently taking Chasteberry

tincture (40 drops once a day) and some vitamins (multi/Vitamin B

Complex/calcium). I am taking the chasteberry to help get my cycles

back on track. I have learned my lesson. I hate what the depo has

done to my body and will never take anything like that again. Can

anyone recommend something to help with the PMS? Is there anything

else that might help regulate my cycles?

Thank you all for all of the great advice.

Laurie

years on the pill or any synthetic hormone will cause an enormous disruption

to your bodies hormones and chemisty. Have you thought of trying natural

progesterone cream? Symptoms of PMS are said to be caused by estrogen

dominence and natural progesterone is thought to correct this imbalance. I

have read the most amazing things about it and I have decided to try it

myself as soon as I find a good brand at a reasonable price.

I take flax seed oil capsules-2 to 3 a day depending on where I am in my

cylce. I have found it to lesson my PMS symptoms. I read something today

written by a very wise and wonderful women about PMS and I will share it

with you.

'The re-emergence of the Feminine now stirring within the hearts of women is

the call to reclaim all that has been kept hidden from them. Women are lunar

in nature. Just as the moon continues to cylce each month, so, too, do

women...The menstrual cycle governs not only the flow of fluids but also

information and ceativity. The ebb and flow of dreams, intuition and

hormones associated with different parts of the cycle offer women a profound

opportuniy to deepen their cconnectin to their inner knowing. ..Information

is recieved and processed differently during each phase of the cycle. Brooke

Medicine Eagle, Native American teacher and author affirms, " there is a

spiritual power and beaty that builds in a women who honors that part of

herself. That's how women in native cultures got to be so wise. "

Each month a women recapulates the phases of creation, nourishment, death

and regeneration. From the first day of menstruation until ovulation is the

follicular phase. During this time, her power can be used to concieve

artistic and intellectual offspring as well as actual biological children.

It is the time when women are most outgoing and attractive to men (volatile

hormones are secreted) and it culminates at the time of the full moon.

It pregnancy does not occur, the second half of the cycle is known as the

lutael phase-from ovulation until the onset of menstruation. This is the

time when there is a desire to retreat from outer activity to a more

reflective mode. This inner space nurtures the opportunity to develop or

give birth to something that comes from deep within. Menstruaion correlates

to the dark phase of the moon.

At this time women are most in tune with their inner knowing and

understanding of what isn't working in thier lives. Premenstually the 'veil

between the worlds ' of the seen and the unseen, the concious and the

unconcious, is much thinner. It is when intuitive wisdom is the strongest

and dreams most revealing. There is access to parts of the often unconscious

self that are less available at all other times of the month. At this time

women are able to connect to their magic-their ability to change things for

the better because they are the most sensitive to their inner selves.

In Native American tradition, menstruation women would retire together to

the moon lodge. This was a time for renewal and visioning. The women emerged

afterward inspired and inspiring to others. Perhaps the majority of PMS

cases would disappear if every modern women gave herself permission to

retreat from her duties for three of four days each month to her own

personal 'moon lodge.'-Sherrill Sellman

Their is more for anybody who is interested. I have found by being positive

about what our bodies are doing and by listening to what it is trying to

tell us, and as Sellman says, by retreating when we feel the need, we will

suffer far less if at all. The next time you are tearing your hair out( or

somebody elses) with PMS, take the hint and retreat!

Love to all,

Mel

I tried Chaste Tree about year ago to regulate hormones and found that after

a week I felt horribly anxious. Has anybody else had this reaction. I was on

Aurorix, an ant-depressant. Could they have interacted?

I take Doc's female formula, which has chasteberry in it... no problems..

As for flax seed... my parents take it for cholestrol.. they used to grind up the seed and mix it in either grapefruit juice or orange juice.

Hi Laurie,

I take flax seed oil in my smoothie every morning - don't taste it at all. My son (4) has his in his dinner, and doesn't seem to taste it. I guess it depends on what dinner is, and how well you can disguise any taste in it.

Note: make sure your Flax Seed oil comes in a glass bottle! You don't want plastic seeping into your oil! Maybe the oil you tried has gone rancid?? Try get organic if you can.

re: PMS. Vitamin F is excellent for this. Start by taking one every day, and once the symptoms reduce/go away, take it only for the week before you're menstruation is due.

I don't know about regulating the menstruation - never had a problem with that.

love,

Lisa

Dear Laurie,

You should switch over to UDO's Choice Perfected Oil Blend. It is by far the most superior Flax product on the market and tastes better than the rest as well. It is also the only one I know of that is stored in brown glass and has never touched plastic. How some of these flax manufacturers can think they can store flax oil in black plastic without it becoming contaminated is beyond me.

On the female thingy, I suggest you make the Female Formula as in the files. It not only has the Chaste Tree Berries in it, but it also has the Angelica (Dong Quai), Wild Yam and the Blue and Black Cohosh. These are essential for balancing the female hormones. I'd also recommend some Liver cleansing in order to get that organ back into operation in its full capacity in regulating other organs.

Love,

You can use organic fruit juice to put your omega oils in. It would also help if you made yourself some red raspberry tea everyday.
