Guest guest
Hi Fern! Here is two tests you can do without cost in your own home to check for food allergies. They are taken from a wonderful book called, " Prescription for Nutritional Healing " by Balch, cnc and Balch MD. First you can do a quick screen. Prehaps choose a food that typically is loaded with common allergins such as pizza (many people are allergic to the grains or dairy in pizza so its a good food to start with. If you flunk the screen test go on and get more specific and test each individual ingredient but here are some good foods to test out (grains- especially wheat, corn, dairy, eggs, soy, peanuts, chocolate, processed foods- especially foods with monosodium glumate, citrus and more). Pg 154 of the previously mentioned book states, " If you suspect you are allergic to a certain food, a simple test can help you determine if you are correct. By recording your pulse after consuming the food in question, you can reveal if you are having an allergic reaction. Using a watch with a second hand, sit down and relax for a few minutes. When completely relaxed, take your pulse at the wrist. Count the number of beats in a sixty-second period. A normal pulse is between 52-70 beats per minute. After taking your pulse, consume the food that you are testing for an allergic reaction. Wait to twenty minutes and take your pulse again. If your pulse rate has increased more than 10 beats per minute, omit this food from your diet for one month, and then retest yourself. The second test is the rotation diet. Let me know if you want info on that and I will post it. I dont have any research to back this but I am noticing that respiritory issues like asthma are often related to dairy and digestive issues like cramping are often related to grain allergies although any type of food allergy can cause a host of symptoms (sore throat, upset stomach, weight gain, bloating, headaches, digestive issues, cough, asthma, sinus issues to name some of the prominant symptoms). We all have heard of emergencies and tragities where a person has extemely reacted to a food. Sometimes we may think, " my reaction isnt like that so I dont have food allergies. " Food allergies though are becoming dramatically more common and cause such a range of symptoms for different people. It is an important step in health to detect food allergies. It is good you are looking further into it, Fern. Because a food is in ones body for an average of 1-3 days, reactions can be delayed - especially digestive ones or immediate- especially respiratory. So, it can be tricky identifying reactions. Strict adherenace to the rotation diet can give vaulable information and the pulse test is a great screen. Prehaps better yet, but possibly at some financial expense is to find a doctor who provides the blood draw anaylsis for food allergies if you want a quick, detailed response. Let me know if you have any questions about the rotation diet or anything else on here. My three children and I all have extensive food allergies so we have run the gamut with this health issue.
