Hi,

I am glad to have found this group, and I look foreward to learning from you

all.

I am an Indian living in Spain, and have been interested in herbs since the last

couple of years. My problem is worsening food sensitivities. I am a

vegetarian and I find my food options dwindling, and sometimes just look in the

fridge, wondering what I can eat...I have been under a lot of emotional stress

for the last 13 years, and about three years ago, when the stress was at its

peak, I started feeling sick, weak etc, and it got to the point when I did not

have the energy to just get dressed and pick up the kids from school. I was

desperate for an answer (allopathic docs dont always have the answers) and found

a book about candida, the questionare indicated a very strong probability that I

had the yeast problem. I cut out wheat, dairy, sugers, went on natural and

prescription anti fungals and got better. I realized my breakfast had been

making me sick. I could not eat the cereals and breads anymore. Nothing with

wheat, corn, oats. But as I got better, my food reacti

ons increased. The usual explanation is that as the yeast is knocked off they

leave holes in the intestinal wall leading to or worsening leaky gut. Now, a

year after treatments, I still have this leaky gut. I cannot eat corn, oats,

beans and lentils, tomatoes, cabbage, bananas, and lots more foods. I cannot

take the l-glutamine recommended to heal leaky gut, it has always made me sick.

Oh yes, if I dont eat a food for more than a year, I can usually add it back in

small occasional amounts. I really would have thought that a year would have

been enought time for the intestinal wall to heal up. Also another think I

noticed is some reactions start while I am still eating, something I find hard

to blame leaky gut for.

I believe I have adrenal fatigue too. Cannot excersice withoug feeling wiped

out for the next few days, borderline low FT3 and FT4 with very low TSH, and the

info on a very good website lead me to think this, and I read in many places

that can also cause allergies and sensitivities. Plus the prescription

antifungals are hard on the adrenals too, but I found out after I had taken

them...

I did a gall bladder cleanse twice (olive oil and grapefruit juice), but I dont

know if it helped any. I am currently using marshmellow root and cats claw

tincture. I feel better with sarsaparilla, I lifts my mood and gives me energy,

and I also use licorice. I am curently taking a break from them right now. I

really love the effect of the sarsaparilla (It is supposed to support the

adrenals, maybe that is why?). Now and then I take black walnut (green hull)

capsuls, they give me an energy boost too, but too much can make me feel hyper

and then after a few hours I feel tired. I think this is because the iodine

stimulating the thyroid, but I have not found anyone who has the same reaction

to it. A clue, I think.

But I am not better. I don't know if anyone here can give me some advice, but I

really don't know where to turn to for help. It is sometimes so depressing to

be like this, I don't know what to try next. To sum up, I am trying to heal a

leaky gut and support the thyroid and adrenal glands. Or if anyone has an

alternative explanation, I would like to hear it too.

Oh yes, not all the herbs I have heard about are available where I live (eg.

slippery elm), and Spain does not seem to like people importing new herbs, so I

have to work with what is available to me.

Sorry about the lenght of this, and thanks if you got this far!

Thanks,

Suni

Hi Suni, and welcome to the group! Don't despair, there are so many people in your present state of health, and it is easy to get frustrated with it. But you have come to the right place. There are many knowledgeable and loving people on this list that can help you. Look through the files, you will find some very enlightening information there. The list owner, Doc Shillington, will be able to help you as well. I think the first article you should read is about enzyme inhibitors found in all grains and nuts that are not sprouted (which will explain why you cannot tolerate them). All the articles under the link below will interest you though.

Hi Suni,

My son of 4 1/2 was sensitive to dairy products and eggs. When I connected up with Doc Shillington (owner of this list) he suggested to try raw organic eggs, and introduce it on a gradient (little bits at a time). It worked! Jamie can now eat eggs (organic)! He can also now eat (organic) dairy products. He is also on a total sprouted diet now, which has been an incredible improvement in his digestive system. BTW, I always prepare our food from scratch with fresh, organic ingredients. I don't buy any pre-prepared foods. It's not exactly cheap nor easy that way, but the increased health and happiness of my son is worth the effort and expense!

So, try all organic diet. You could simply be reacting to all the rubbish in non-organic foods, such as hormones, additives, anti-biotics, etc.. Introduce the foods on a gradient with a little bit at a time.

Apart from that I would say total body cleanse, to clean up all the past rubbish ingested.

I am not an expert on health matters by any stretch of the imagination. This is simply what I would do if I had your problem, based on my experience and knowledge gained so far :-)

Do well.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies I got. Lisa, I too prepare my food from scratch, and for

the last two years or more it has been quite healthy. It was not very healthy

before, but I just did not what I do now! But I realize something is still

wrong, so I might try the sprouted grains.

I get organic when available, but organic produce are very expensive and hard to

come by where I live.

What would a total body cleanse involve exactly? There are some formulas in the

files, but I can't find all the ingredients here.

I have started using a cat's claw tincture, 25 drops in water in the night. It

is supposed to help with leaky gut too.

Has anyone here been able overcome food intolerences? If so I would love to

here what helped most.

Hi Suni!

My 3 children and I developed extensive food allergies a couple of

years ago. 1 child has completely overcome food sensativities as

long as the foods are rotated, the other 2 children and I have

almost completely overcome them but have 1 or 2 foods that are still

a problem (Dairy for one and gluetin for myself and another child).

Although we havent had a perfect outcome there has been huge headway

made and that was primarily done by focusing on our immune system.

Food allergies are an immune system response so focusing on that

system is what can help many allergy sufferers.

What strengthens the immune system? The list is long. Exercise

(especially bouncing types which gets the lymph circulating), green

foods and other foods and some supplements. I am convinced quality

green tea helped in this way too- we had direct physical evidence of

this in how it visibly reduced the redness after drinking a cup of

high quality tea)Let me know if you want more info but I would focus

on the immune system in your research. Has your leaky gut condition

healed or do you still have symptoms especially passing undigested

foods?

Love in Christ,

Cindy

Hi Suni,

I thought we were eating pretty healthy, until I got all Doc's information about nutrition LOL. Boy, a lot of improvement was needed. All the things I thought were healthy, weren't!!

Yes, all grains, seeds, nuts, and most beans need sprouting. See Doc's article in the files. My son in particular has had major, major improvements in his body since I started sprouting!

And he's overcome his intolerances of dairy and eggs by simply using organics items, and then introducing each item on a gradient - one at a time and a little bit more of that item each day, so you can monitor your body's reaction to it.. That is important: introduce only one new item at a time, per week. That way you can easily identify a problem food.

I don't know about the total cleanse. I have bought all the items, but haven't started with it yet. Our family broke up two months ago, so I didn't want to introduce a maybe stressful body detox, while we were also trying to cope with losing a husband/father. Hopefully soon we'll be ready to start it. I didn't buy the ingredients - I bought the completed items from Doc Shillington himself. I know he doesn't advertise this, but he does make all those remedies himself, and people can buy them from him ready made. Saves me trying to hunt around for the ingredients. I live in the UK, and here also the availability of such (organic) herbs is not good. Doc just ships them to me in the UK.

Organic food is not cheap here either. But it's worth it in the long run! I've had to adjust my other spending quite a bit in order to be able to make the shopping all organic. But it's going okay now. And shop around as some shops are much cheaper than others in organic food.

love,

Lisa

Hi Cindy,

Sorry I took so long to answer. I had some issues that need sorting

out, and just had too much to deal with. It must have been tough on

you when the kids and you had this problem....I am interested in

hearing what helped strenghten your immune system. I am willing to

try anything that might help.

About the leaky gut, well I am not sure if I still have it, but I

definatly am not passing undigested food. Doctors have not helped

me, but on my own I have come a long way...I have learned so much on

the way, and hope to learn more.

Take care,
