Both of my kids are sick! I don't think it's the same thing, and I am a

bit afraid to even do much for the littler one. My daughter is 6 and

weighs about 35 pounds. She's been sick to her stomach all night, and

she also has a runny nose. So far all she's held down since about 8 p.m.

last night is some of a Pedialite (or however you spell the stupid

thing) frozen pop. Everything else she's drank has come right back up

and she just ate the freezer pop like 30 minutes ago, so I am not

totally sure it will stay down either! She is running very little fever.

She wants to do nothing more than lay on the floor/couch or in bed.

The baby is 2 1/2 and weighs about 28-30 pounds. He's been running a

fever for the last 2 days, sometimes as high as 102, 103. BUT he's

drinking well, eating some and sleeping at night and playing a bit when

he's awake. I know that fever is the body's way of defeating a bug or

germ so unless it's bedtime or he's truly miserable from the fever, I'm

not giving him anything so his body can work.

So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rowan

Oh Rowan, that is so yucky, I am sorry they are sick. Until your daughter can stop vomiting, the pedia-pops are ok. Sips of peppermint tea, if she is not averted to it will help too. That baby boy sounds like he is functioning just right, he is drinking and even eating so that is great really. If he gets really uncomfortable, try a little feverfew tincture in his bottle or sippy-cup, then you won't have the side effects of tylenol or motrin. Joey had a high fever maybe 2 or 3 times as a baby and this worked just fine for him. It really sounds like he won't need it though ;-) In the files is the explanation of dosage called the "150 Rule".

And you are a wonderful mommy, so keep up the good work and let us know how they are.

Feverfew is an herb. You can grow it, order it, make the tincture yourself or buy it already made.

Hi Rowan,

My kid once spent a whole day vomiting after eating an egg. By evening I had become quite panicky, so I went to see a Paramedic friend of mine. He said there wasn't anything to worry about, as Jamie hadn't a fever. He said that as long as there's no fever, there's usually not much to worry about with kids. He was right - by night time, the stomach must have gotten rid of whatever it was it was trying to get rid of, and Jamie settled down fine. By the next day he was totally fine again.

So maybe your daughter has eating something that didn't agree with her?

Providing nothing else happens, I'd leave it running its course. Keep a close eye on her and see what happens. That's what I'd do. But I'm not a health professional, so can only tell you what I'd do with my son.

With regards to your boy, indeed fever is the body's defence. You can help it along though. Echinacea and Total Tonic (see Doc's files) are my usuals. I normally put it in Jamie's food - he likes it that way.

All the best.

Feverfew is a plant that is also known as Bachelor's Button because of its small daisy-like flowers. Traditionally it has been used for fevers, aches and pains, diarrhea, and flu symptoms. Today it is used as a remedy and preventive of migraines. The fresh leaves can be used to deter biting insects and on insect bites to soothe stinging and itching. You can find feverfew in tincture or pill form at any health food store. I usually use tincture.

Are you saying that " fever few " is the purple flowering plant that comes

from wild flower seeds that grows outside my front door? Which part of

the plant is used? Thanks........

So as not to confuse people, Bachelor Buttons and Feverfew are

different plants. The botanical names are Centaurea Cyanus and

Chrysanthemum Parthenium, respectively. Not trying to nitpic, just

didn't want someone getting the wrong thing, if they decide to grow

this plant. :)

OK - I went on a search for Feverfew and this is what I came up with: depending on where you look things are very confusing indeed.

y of HerbsFeverfewMatricaria parthenoidesCompositae familyLanguage and mythologyAlso known as Chrysanthemum Parthenium and TanacetumParthenium. Feverfew comes from the Latin fetrifugia meaning "driver out offevers".DescriptionFeverfew is many branched with finely furrowed stems. Thedaisy-like flowers are borne in tight flat clusters. Leaves are stronglyscented, hairless, alternate, yellowish-green and approximately 4 incheslong. The lower leaves are bipinnate with egg-shaped leaflets while upperleaves are pinnate and toothed.

I also have it listed in a book Called Indian Herbology of North America by Alma R. Hutchins as:

Feverfew

Pyrethrum parthenium

of the Compositae family

So there you have it and so what is right and what is wrong I am not sure - I have it listed in my files as Matricaria parthenoides but then who is to say.
